Chapter 366 Big Drama
Under the spell's influence, the carriage moved at a rapid speed, even passing through the dark pine forest like a ghost. The professor watched the rapidly passing, increasingly dark scene outside the window, secretly calculating the coordinates in his mind—they were getting farther and farther away from the city of Osiris.
"My father owns a sanatorium manor nearby," Roland explained lazily in the warm and comfortable carriage, surveying the desolate scenery outside with a slightly critical eye. "From now on, every inch of land beneath your feet belongs exclusively to the 'Shelter' Company. To ensure safety and secrecy, the most sophisticated magic array has been set up around Dusk Star Manor to ensure that no malicious 'rat' can sneak in—of course, including those sneaky guys from the People's Party."
Mouse No. 1: “…”
He calmly looked away, acting as if he had heard nothing.
Mouse Number Two, while ostensibly listening, was actually distracted. The professor looked a bit sleepy, and Azuka's brow furrowed slightly beneath her hood. Indeed, these secretive guys had scheduled their meeting for dusk, and now, with the delay, it was already time for them to rest. He was already considering casting a Confusion Spell on everyone, then cuddling them up against him for a nap.
The two bosses were too lazy to respond. Ethan, who had been hiding in the corner without saying a word, had to act as a lightener. He said in a deep voice, "Father, when will Mr. Moni come to the manor?"
Ethan really couldn't bring himself to call him "Father".
As a result, his stepbrother looked him in the eye. Upon hearing his words, he immediately looked him up and down, raised his chin and sneered, "You do have some self-awareness, but it's not much. How dare you, a carrier, inquire about our father's itinerary?"
The professor used his body and coat to cover himself and quietly wrote a line of words on the back of Azuka's hand. The short hairs on the glove on his fingertips made him feel itchy.
——No more than two days.
The Savior swiftly grasped the restless paw with his backhand and rubbed it in his palm. He immediately understood and, maintaining Octavius's cold and arrogant tone, raised his head slightly. Only after seeing Roland Moni's expression stiffen did he speak coldly, "I don't have much time to waste here."
"...Of course, as a distinguished guest, I won't keep you waiting for long." Roland Moni glanced at him, clearly not expecting the healer to be so confident. This made him even more respectful. "Father will arrive at Dusk Star Manor tomorrow night. Before then, you can feel free to rest and walk around the manor and make some preparations."
See, I guessed right. Upon hearing this, the professor immediately gave the person next to him a smug look, and a certain god almost couldn't resist the urge to reach out and touch and knead the back of his neck, and then give him a good kiss.
When the carriage passed the last section of the mountain road, accompanied by the light of the magic circle, they seemed to pass through a layer of cold and sticky liquid crystal. At a certain moment, the professor suddenly felt some kind of "visit", but was quickly isolated by the power of the savior.
Ethan's reaction seemed even more dramatic. His face turned pale, blood seeped slowly from his nose, and his bones trembled violently, as if he was bearing some unbearable pressure.
Only then did Roland seem to notice his presence and immediately covered his mouth hypocritically. "Ah, sorry, 'brother', I was so focused on Mr. Octavius and his 'assistant' that I forgot to 'invite' you."
He tapped the purple gem on his neck with his right hand. The air suddenly made a slight buzzing sound. The originally empty vision suddenly twisted and stretched. The surrounding pine forest peeled off like a melted oil painting, and then reorganized in an instant - the oppressive and huge silhouette of Dusk Star Manor finally emerged from the twilight.
"Do you feel it, Lord Octavius?" Roland Moni's voice was filled with reserved boasting, ignoring Ethan, who seemed to have returned to the human world and was breathing heavily. "This is the 'Curtain', the latest product of the 'Asylum' company. Anyone who forcibly intrudes without the owner's permission will be marked and locked by the magic circle upon touching the edge of the 'Curtain'. It carries the pressure of a powerful person of the Lord's Prayer Class, and it only requires coal for power. Those ridiculous tricks of the People's Party will not make a splash here."
Octavius replied calmly, his gaze calmly withdrawing from beneath his hood, as if Roland's explanation were merely irritating background noise. His enigmatic, uninterested demeanor only made Roland certain that this healer must be of a special status and possessed extraordinary knowledge.
The carriage drove through the manor's heavy cast iron gates and stopped in front of the main building. Roland was the first to get out, a false yet warm smile plastered on his face. "Sir Octavius, welcome to Duskstar Manor!"
The interior of the manor was far more opulent and profound than its exterior appeared. The vast marble floor tiles were as smooth as a mirror, reflecting the magnificent chandelier made of countless tiny, translucent crystals hanging from the dome. The walls were hung with thick, dark brocade, depicting a magnificent star map, each star embellished with countless gemstones.
The fire crackled, and several servants in neat uniforms emerged from the shadows like ghosts, holding kerosene lamps. They kept their heads down the whole time and respectfully took the ermine cloak that Roland Mony had taken off casually, without ever making eye contact with any of the guests.
Two of them appeared quietly beside the savior, respectfully reaching out to take the cloak, and the other two came to the professor, pretending to help take off his coat.
Octavius didn't move. He even reached out to hold the shoulder of his black-haired assistant and pulled him to his side, a very obvious gesture of protection and rejection.
"Ah, our guest wants to remain mysterious." Roland raised his hand to stop the servant and replied tolerantly, "It's okay. 'Mystery' is allowed here."
His eyes, however, glimpsed strangely across the dark-haired youth's ordinary, forgettable face. Was it this mysterious healer's unique taste, or was it a confusion spell? No, the Veil would detect all confusion spells of the Lord's Prayer and below. It couldn't be some saint so bored that he disguised himself to have fun with him.
Roland Monni's inner vigilance towards this "Octavius" rose to a new level. On the surface, he still smiled, even a little impatiently - he couldn't wait to change his dirty clothes. "You two can follow the servants to rest and adjust your appearance first. There will be a welcome dinner waiting for you later -"
An exaggerated and high-pitched female voice suddenly interrupted him.
"Gods, little brother Roland, is that you?"
Roland's smile twisted for a moment. He gritted his teeth, adjusted his breathing, and forced a smile at Octavius. "Sorry, I guess I have to ask you to meet my annoying brothers and sisters now."
...Lionel Money's reproductive instinct is really strong.
The professor's gaze drifted over the group approaching from the end of the corridor, and even he couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Men and women of all ages, gathered together, including the sullen Ethan Money, their facial features all bore more or less the same characteristics.
Standing in the front were Lionel Money's most beloved children. The only female among them was wearing a bright red dress. Even though the temperature on that autumn night was about to drop below zero, she still exposed her arms and chest, which were as soft and plump as mutton-fat jade. The call that had just caused Roland's face to change drastically came from her.
"I heard you went specially to greet our other brother." The woman in the red dress covered her lips, her beautiful eyes moving around, quickly locking onto Ethan. "It's really rare that little brother Roland actually has a day when he longs for his brother's love~"
"Shut up, Lesia," Roland growled in a low voice, "You have nothing to do here."
"How could it be that I'm not involved?" Lesia Moni looked at him innocently. "Father's illness can't be delayed any longer. He'll have to choose another 'carrier', probably in the next few days. You all know this very well. One more person means more possibilities. Why keep pretending in front of our new brothers?"
Silence.
Everyone knew what being chosen as a "carrier" meant. It meant being cut open alive, and the therapist would transfer the "rot" in Lionel Money's diseased flesh, bones, and internal organs to the corresponding healthy organs of his blood relatives.
Next, these young and healthy offspring will become weaker and weaker with each "transfer" until the therapists judge that they can no longer withstand the "rot". Then, they will become advanced experimental subjects for drug testing under the torture of illness, waiting for the hope of cure that may or may not exist.
Lionel Money was indeed generous, and all selected carriers and their mother families would receive a huge amount of compensation. But the problem was that if the person was gone, what was the point of asking for money?
"It's none of my business."
Roland laughed out loud amidst the dead silence, his laughter filled with malicious, condescending joy. "I am my father's favorite child. I am his chosen heir. No matter what, I will never be the one to die. I just hope he lives a long life."
——Until he pocketed all the wealth.
"But as for you, Sister Laisia..." The young master looked at the woman's tired face, which even layers of makeup couldn't hide, with a hint of malicious innocence. "You are already thirty-one years old, right? You have been married three times and have become a worthless old woman. I remember my father once told me that he has been very fond of a daughter recently. She is only sixteen years old and is extremely beautiful. What's her name..."
"Roland Moni!" Lesia Moni was so angry that her face twisted violently, but deep fear flashed in her eyes.
The professor watched this thrilling ethical drama that could be called "Traveling with the Money Family" for a while, and finally looked away in boredom.
He calmly began to look around, and continued to complete the three-dimensional map in his mind. Until his eyes passed by a certain place, the black-haired young man's pupils suddenly shrank violently, and the hairs all over his body stood up.
A face covered with exaggerated layers of oil paint appears out of place in the darkness.
