Chapter 49 Meeting the Father-in-law and Mother-in-law

Jiang's mother got straight to the point: "How was our meeting today? I heard this afternoon that a man brought you back on a bicycle. The whole brigade was talking about it all afternoon. Is it a success?"

Jiang Mengxue didn't expect the news to spread so quickly, nor did she expect that one day she would become the center of gossip. She was a little uncomfortable.

"Well, we chatted this morning and I think it was pretty good. However, you've been busy lately and probably don't have time to meet. We're going back to the city together tomorrow and plan to come back and meet when you're both free. I think this is a good time to get to know each other better."

Jiang's mother nodded. "Do you know everything about him? What about his parents? If the marriage goes through, will you continue to work in the city? Or will you follow him?"

Jiang Mengxue: "This matter has not been decided yet, and we haven't talked about it. But I shouldn't be joining the army in the next one or two years. They haven't built a family compound yet, so it will probably be next year at the earliest.

His parents both have their own jobs, so they probably won't spend much time together in the future. Let's take it one step at a time. It's too far-fetched to talk about this now."

Jiang's mother thought about it and agreed. The two children had just had a blind date today. Although both of them felt good about the person, they had never met the parents after all. Even if there was no problem on their side, who knew what his parents would think.

Jiang's mother: "Okay, then let's get along well during this period, but you must also be careful not to do anything you shouldn't do."

Jiang Mengxue felt a little embarrassed by what she said. Her mother was too bold.

"I know, mother. I know my limits. You think too much."

After sending Jiang's mother back, my sister came back to bother me again.

"Sister, did you go on a blind date today? Do I have a brother-in-law? Are you getting married?"

Jiang Mengxue was helpless and reached out to touch her sister's forehead.

"Why are you so curious? The blind date was successful, but we're not ready to get married yet. We've only met a few times, so it's still early."

Jiang Mengran didn't think so: "That's not necessarily true. There are many people who get married after only a few blind dates, and some even get married without even meeting each other. Your partner is a soldier, so his basic character should be fine. It seems that his family conditions are good, and if he is good-looking, then there should be no problem."

"You think it's so simple. If you want to get married, don't just do it on impulse."

Jiang Mengxue looked at her younger sister's innocent appearance and was really afraid that she would be coaxed into losing her way by a few words.

When I woke up in the morning, it was already bright.

I couldn’t fall asleep last night after chatting with my sister. After all, it was the first blind date in my life, and maybe we will get married soon.

Even though I look calm, I still feel a little worried and scared when the night gets quiet.

After getting dressed and leaving the room, she found Gu Qingbei already in the yard. He had chopped and broken off all the corn in her backyard and brought it to the front yard to dry.

"Are you awake? I'll go heat up breakfast. You should wash your face and brush your teeth first." Then he walked into the kitchen naturally.

When Gu Qingbei had already entered the kitchen, Jiang Mengxue was still a little confused. Whose house was this?

Looking at his skillful movements, I thought he was already a familiar son-in-law.

Without thinking too much, I went back to the room, got my toothbrush, toothpaste and towel and went to wash up.

She braided her hair into a pigtail, applied lotion and sunscreen, tidied herself up and went into the kitchen. Gu Qingbei was serving the rice.

I made cornmeal porridge, egg pancakes, steamed dumplings and pickled radish in the morning.

Jiang Mengxue raised her eyebrows: "Did you bring these this morning?"

She was very sure that she had not seen any pickled radishes in the house when she was cooking before.

She also didn't believe that Gu Qingbei would be able to find eggs and flour so easily when he cooked at her house for the first time, because Jiang's mother had locked them in the cabinet in the main room.

"Well, I brought it myself. I pickled the radish strips myself. I made the egg pancakes and dumplings this morning and brought them here. I just heated them up. But I brought cornmeal to cook the porridge. I've been simmering it underneath."

Jiang Mengxue couldn't help but give a thumbs up: "Your cooking skills look pretty good. How early did you get up to come here, and you started working right away."

Gu Qingbei felt a little embarrassed: "I couldn't sleep at home either. I was thinking of coming early so I could say hello to my uncle and aunt. It would be a bit awkward for us to leave today without meeting the elders."

"When I first arrived, I saw my uncle taking my eldest brother and the others out. I heard them say they would come back in the evening to chop the corn in the backyard, so I did it while I was free.

I also said hello to them and told them that I was going back to the city with you today. If I didn't tell them before meeting you, I always felt like we were dating secretly, which was a bit awkward. Are you not angry?"

Jiang Mengxue shook her head: "Why should I be angry? I'll see you sooner or later."

I have to say that Gu Qingbei’s cooking skills are very good. The fried dumplings are full of soup when you bite into them. Jiang Mengxue likes to eat this kind of dumplings the most. Unfortunately, the ones she makes herself are not very juicy every time.

The bus to the city left at nine in the morning. After they had their meal, they packed up and rode their bikes to the commune.
