Chapter 66: Being Honest with Each Other

Jiang Mengxue was just gathering up the courage to go out and find out what was going on, but unexpectedly, the space suddenly changed and Gu Qingbei appeared.

The two of them were looking at each other in confusion, wondering what had gone wrong in the space, and wondering why the other party also appeared in the space.

It was Gu Qingbei who took action first, walking barefoot step by step towards the warehouse.

"you…"

"you…"

They both spoke at the same time, then suddenly stopped, waiting for the other to speak first.

"How about we go out first? I don't feel comfortable here."

Jiang Mengxue felt like it was broad daylight at this moment, and the two of them were standing on the edge of the field chatting, and she always felt that someone would appear nearby.

The two of them suddenly returned home together, one lying on the kang and the other sitting on the edge of the kang, looking at each other, not knowing how to start the conversation.

Gu Qingbei spoke nervously, "Well, should I speak first?"

Jiang Mengxue nodded. She hadn't figured out what to say, whether to simply brush it off or explain her background to him in detail.

Gu Qingbei took out a thumb-sized stone from his neck. It was originally transparent, but now it was like red stalactite inside, as if it was soaked in blood.

"When I was five years old, my parents sent me back to my hometown to live with my grandmother. That was when I was most energetic. I would go up the mountains and down the rivers with my friends in the village to catch shrimps and fish.

Once we found a stream in the mountains together. The stream was wide but the water was not deep. We played there for several days.

One time I caught a pretty big fish. When I was pulling it out of the creek, the fish kept swinging around. I accidentally slipped and hit its head on a rock.

I was so drowsy that I passed out and slept for three days before waking up. I felt like I was dreaming. I dreamed that I was in a paradise with mountains, water, rivers and land.

When I woke up, I thought I was dreaming. I had been holding the stone in my hand, and my grandmother said she couldn't pry it open no matter how hard she tried.

Later, I always accidentally entered this space when playing with stones at night. It took me a long time to figure out what was going on inside.

Later, I slowly smuggled some seeds in and planted them there. I caught the small fish and shrimps in the river myself, dug the fruit trees from the mountains, and bought the chickens, ducks, cows and sheep with the pocket money my parents gave me.

The underground is full of warehouses. Any uneaten crops and livestock are stored in these warehouses. I don't know exactly how much is in there now, as crops are harvested less than once a month, and livestock every two or three months. You met me at the commune's black market before; I was there to process a batch of food from this space.

That’s about it. I’ve had this space for over twenty years now, and it’s helped feed and clothe quite a few people.”

After saying that, he looked at Jiang Mengxue and indicated that it was her turn.

Jiang Mengxue needed to organize her thoughts. She didn't know how to start the conversation, nor did she know how to explain her origins. As for telling half of the story and hiding the other half, Jiang Mengxue had considered it, but many things in the space did not belong to this era. She couldn't just make up stories later.

"First of all, I want to say that I am not Jiang Mengxue from this era. I traveled here from 2023. We have the same name and surname, and we look about 70% similar.

Before I traveled through time, I was also a medical student. My grandfather was an old Chinese medicine doctor. I was influenced by him since I was a child, so I studied medicine in college.

This space of mine is the bracelet my grandmother left me when she passed away. However, this space is just a big warehouse. The speed inside does not change. Living things will remain still when put in, and will still be alive when taken out.

For a while, I always dreamed about scenes from the 1960s and 1970s. It might be because I read a lot of novels and my imagination was quite wild, so I sold my property and stockpiled all the supplies in the space.

I just came here a few days before the Mid-Autumn Festival, and meeting you was quite unexpected."

Both of them were speechless, not knowing how to describe what had happened to them.

"You said you traveled through time decades later? What was China like in 2023? Would everyone have enough to eat? And there wouldn't be any more wars."

Jiang Mengxue didn't know how to describe it to him. How could she imagine how prosperous it must be if she had never seen it with her own eyes?

"I can't describe to you what a grand spectacle it was. Let me show you."

Jiang Mengxue found a mobile phone from the space, picked out a downloaded video, opened it and placed it in front of Gu Qingbei.

The video shows the military parades from 1949 to 2019. The video starts out blurry and gradually becomes clear, revealing various new tanks and weapons.

Gu Qingbei watched it intently, over and over again. He could not imagine that China's changes over the past few decades could have developed so incredibly.

Turning to the promotional videos of various cities, he didn't know how to describe his feelings when he saw the tall buildings, various delicious foods, and people coming and going.

"This is real. This is the future of New China. I don't know if I'll ever have the chance to see China at that time."

Jiang Mengxue never worried because she knew when the country would change, and she still wanted to be a landlady.
