Chapter 23 Yanghua Cloud Sea (Part 10)
Merfolk cultivate differently from humans; their attacks rely more on intuition than skill. After exchanging dozens of blows with the adult merfolk in front of him, Jiang Gu quickly estimated the opponent's cultivation level.
He was at the mid-stage of the Nascent Soul realm, just one minor realm lower than him, but considering the opponent's race, he might be able to fight him to a draw.
Jiang Gu immediately became interested.
He didn't have a chance to fight Qingdu head-on at the Mermaid Bay Ruins. He wasn't familiar with how adult mermaids fought, and Wei Feng, such a small thing, was no match for him. He had been at the late stage of the Nascent Soul realm for so long, but he had never actually fought anyone.
This merman is the perfect practice subject.
The adult merman's tail fin is wide and powerful, with incredibly sharp scales, making it the most important weapon besides its claws and fangs. Jiang Gu gripped the sword in his hand and appeared behind Qing Du like a ghost. A flash of snow-white sword light pierced through the air, severing half of the opponent's tail fin.
Qingdu let out a sharp roar and slashed at Jiang Gu's neck with a claw, but Jiang Gu used Wei Feng to block the attack. Qingdu was shocked and quickly withdrew his strength. Jiang Gu took the opportunity to cut off his nail and grabbed Wei Feng to stand at the edge of the bird's nest.
Qingdu was panting heavily. "You despicable human! Give me back my young master!"
A hint of disappointment flashed in Jiang Gu's eyes. Although this thing was powerful, its intelligence was questionable. He had a thought and said to Qing Du, "Whoever wins, it belongs to him."
After saying that, he threw the boy in his arms back into the bird's nest from the height. Qingdu roared and rushed up, but was blocked by Jiang Gu's sword.
The enraged merman was incredibly fast. Jiang Gu's hundreds of sword strikes all missed their mark. A glint of excitement flashed in his eyes, and he simply abandoned his sword, saving the almost negligible time spent circulating spiritual energy when swinging it. Before Qing Du could pierce his heart with a claw, he formed a claw with his five fingers and grabbed Jiang Gu's throat, slamming the merman heavily against the stone wall.
"Too weak." Jiang Gu was somewhat disappointed. He hadn't even used his full strength, and Qing Du was utterly vulnerable except for its advantages in speed and strength. "No wonder your Merfolk clan went extinct."
These words were like a fatal blow to the spirit. The mermaid, who was already exhausted, suddenly turned blood red in her eyes, and a sharp piece of dragon silk pierced towards Jiang Gu's eyes.
Inside the bird's nest, Wei Feng struggled to his feet and looked at the man and the merman fighting in the distance. He had actually woken up when Qing Du roared, and originally just wanted to pretend to be unconscious and take the opportunity to escape. But the old pervert seemed to have seen through his trick and threw him off from the sky.
Wei Feng was thrown to the ground and nearly died, his right leg was also broken. He stared nervously at the tall merman, afraid that the other party might accidentally die at the hands of that old pervert.
He didn't understand the mermaid language, but he could vaguely understand the mermaid's cries. His anxious and concerned calls for "child," "chieftain," and "escape" made Wei Feng instinctively feel a sense of dependence.
A tender mermaid's cry echoed from the night, a response to him. Qingdu, clutching his arm severed by Jiang Gu, swam swiftly towards the bird's nest, "Young Master! Don't be afraid!"
Wei Feng was overjoyed, but his expression changed drastically when he saw the man in black behind him. "Get out of the way!"
Jiang Gu was even faster than Qing Du. The moment he caught up with him, he clenched his fist and bent his elbow, slamming it heavily into the merman's pale neck. The teeth-grinding "crack" sound was particularly clear in the darkness.
The enormous merman, exhausted, fell from the sky, but Jiang Gu had no intention of letting him go. He never gave his opponents any chance to breathe or survive; beheading and taking out the Heart-Shattering Pill could eliminate a lot of potential trouble.
But this time, an unexpected incident occurred.
"You old pervert—" an angry roar rang out from above his head.
Holding a Heaven-Rank magic weapon, Wei Feng leaped down from the dilapidated bird's nest, his face filled with anger and determination. His crimson disciple robes billowed in the night. "Die!"
Jiang Gu slightly shifted his spiritual power, easily dodging his imposing sneak attack. After catching the magic weapon in his hand, he swept his long sleeves, and Wei Feng was directly smashed into the cliff. After being blocked a few times by the protruding pine trees, he fell heavily to the ground, spat out a mouthful of foul blood, convulsed twice, and then remained motionless.
"..." Jiang Gu found it hard to describe his feelings at that moment.
Such a reckless and foolish sneak attack—Wei Feng truly lives up to his mermaid bloodline; his mind is filled with nothing but the silt of the seabed.
He spread his divine sense outwards, and sure enough, the merman's aura was no longer present in the entire back mountain.
A bloodstained hand gripped his hem tightly. Wei Feng struggled to lift his head and glared at him fiercely.
"Fool." Jiang Gu looked down at him, waved his hand and cut the cloth in half, turning into a streak of light and heading straight out of the back mountain.
At midnight, dark clouds rolled in over Yanghuazong.
After a muffled clap of thunder, a torrential downpour began.
Jiang Gu's disguised divine sense quickly swept across the mountains, rivers, and lakes within sight, and finally caught a trace of the mermaid's aura at Touchun Peak, and decisively gave chase.
Qingdu knew Wei Fengshen Yuanjiao's identity, and he would never let this merman leave Yanghua Sect alive.
In a hasty retreat, Qingdu transformed back into human form, his calves and shoulders covered in deep, bone-revealing wounds. Clutching his severed arm, he slipped into the library in the back hall of Touchun Peak.
Wet, messy footprints lay on the floor, leaving behind dark brown bloodstains.
The window frames rattled in the wind as Jiang Gu silently landed on top of the bookshelf, floating up like a ghost. Soon he saw Qing Du lying in the corner, barely alive.
Just as he was about to make his move, the merman who had collapsed to the ground suddenly looked up and said, "Come out. I know you're here."
Jiang Gu's eyebrows twitched slightly as he looked out the window.
A moment later, a shadowy human figure appeared outside the window. "I warned you not to come to Yanghua Sect."
"Young Master, you must become a kite." Qingdu gritted his teeth and said, "I cannot let him be with someone else."
"Don't be silly. Wei Feng will never admit his identity as the Divine Mermaid, nor will he listen to your arrangements to avenge the Mermaid race," the figure said.
"Young Master, you just saved me." Qingdu leaned against the wall with difficulty. "He is a good boy."
"Qi Fengyuan is dead, so you've avenged yourself." The figure said, "Wei Feng has now become Jiang Gu's disciple, so we couldn't control him to begin with, and now it's even more difficult... Who injured you like this?"
"I don't know." Qingdu reached out and grabbed the windowsill, a cold glint flashing in his fangs. "Conditions: the bloodline of the kite bird, the Fire-Separating Pill. Here you go, let me take the young master away."
The figure chuckled lightly: "Of course I haven't forgotten, but I need to deal with Jiang Gu first. Now that you've appeared in front of Wei Feng, find a way to make him trust you."
“He trusts me.” A rare hint of tenderness appeared on Qingdu’s usually cold and hard face. “I will protect him.”
The other person tossed him a bottle of pills from outside, saying, "Then you'd better survive first."
Jiang Gu did not act rashly. He could not detect the figure's aura, which could only mean that the other party's cultivation level was higher than his.
As far as he knew, the person with the highest cultivation level in Yanghua Sect was the sect leader, Wu Hezhi, who was only at the late stage of the Nascent Soul realm.
Who could this person be?
He floated in the void, gazing thoughtfully at Qingdu. He could vaguely see the Vermilion Bird God Mark that he had previously implanted into the other's body. Perhaps this merman could be of greater use if he were alive.
So he decisively abandoned the plan to eliminate the threat completely, left the library, and returned to the back mountain of Yanghua Sect in a few breaths.
Wei Feng has disappeared without a trace.
——
In the damp and cramped cave, Wei Feng struggled to open his eyes and saw a small flame.
The ball of fire huffed and puffed as it ran towards him, nudging his cheek hard with its head.
“…Cat? Or dog?” Wei Feng laboriously raised his hand, touched its drooping little ears, and muttered to himself, “I think I’ve seen this breed before…but it was yellow.”
The furry little creature wagged its tail at him and pushed the herbs under its paws toward his mouth, gesturing for him to eat.
"Thank you..." Wei Feng was in great pain all over his body. He knew that this little thing had dragged him out of the rain. He grabbed the handful of herbs and swallowed them whole.
The bitter, fishy taste instantly spread in his mouth. He chewed the herbs with difficulty while smiling at the kitten, "Your yellow predecessor... should be dead by now. Its owner was extremely vicious... Luckily, you didn't fall into his hands."
"Aww." The little creature sat upright in front of him, with a circle of snow-white fur around its neck like a little collar, and its four paws also covered with white fur. It obediently opened its mouth at him.
The more Wei Feng looked at it, the more it resembled the spirit pet named Wu Tuo that the old pervert kept. However, he also knew that Wu Tuo should have died without a trace in the Chaolong Secret Realm. Outside the cave, lightning flashed and thunder roared, as if only he and the little kitten in front of him remained in the world. Thinking of the giant shark that might have been killed by that old pervert, Wei Feng felt even more sorrowful.
He reached out and pulled the little creature into his arms, whispering, "From now on, you'll be called Wutuo, okay? I promise I won't abandon you."
The kitten nuzzled his chin affectionately, snuggled into his arms, and yawned.
Wei Feng couldn't help but smile, when suddenly footsteps came from outside the cave.
He scrambled to his feet with a start, hiding Wu Tuo in his sleeve, but his broken leg slowed him down. Before he could leap onto his flying sword, a black figure blocked the entrance to the cave completely.
The overwhelming pressure made Wei Feng break out in a cold sweat. He gripped his sword tightly and held it horizontally in front of him, but despair spread through his heart.
He ambushed the old pervert, and although he failed, he still caused an obstacle. The other party was obviously very angry and might kill him. No, he was best at making people wish they were dead. He would cut out the Fire-Separating Pill, break off his wings, and then crush his bones inch by inch, watching him struggle and beg for mercy...
Fear made Wei Feng's hand grip the sword hilt tremble slightly, and his rain-soaked wings pressed painfully against the hard stone.
The footsteps drew closer, like a countdown to impending suffering.
The other person walked up to him, and the night sky behind them was torn into pieces by azure lightning, briefly illuminating the narrow space.
This also allowed Wei Feng to see the other person's face clearly.
The longsword in his hand clattered to the ground, and tears instantly welled up in his eyes. "Master!"
Fifteen minutes later.
Wei Feng looked at Jiang Gu, who was treating his wounds, and gripped his sleeve tightly, refusing to let go.
"There was some unusual activity in the magic array on the back mountain, so I came here to investigate." After Jiang Gu set the broken bone in his leg and confirmed that his spiritual energy could flow smoothly, he still covered it with a layer of spiritual energy to fix it in place. Knowing full well what was going on, he asked, "How did you end up here?"
Wei Feng sniffed, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Master, actually I—"
Before he could finish speaking, a cool sensation suddenly enveloped the area behind his shoulder blades at the base of his wings. Jiang Gu's fingers lightly pinched it twice, and he asked solemnly, "What is this?"
Wei Feng shuddered violently, his face turning red to the roots of his neck in an instant.
