Chapter 280 A Love Tribulation That's Hard to Overcome (Part 3)
As the pain subsided, Wei Feng's tense nerves relaxed abruptly. He rested his head on Jiang Gu's shoulder, closed his eyes, and breathed heavily, his breathing gradually becoming steady in Jiang Gu's presence.
"Don't fall asleep." Jiang Gu reached out and touched the iron chain piercing through his shoulder blade. His palm stung from the intense heat emanating from it. He coaxed him softly, "The Chaos Core is unstable right now. If you fall asleep, it will devour your consciousness, Wei Feng?"
Wei Feng opened his eyes with difficulty, quietly licked the wound on his shoulder where the ghost pattern had pierced him, and remained silent.
Jiang Gu continuously channeled his spiritual energy into his wound, finally figuring out the hook of the chain within the magic array. Since there were no suitable tools nearby, he took a bone from his person and yanked it hard against the iron hook.
Wei Feng abruptly raised his head. He could only feel a slight pain, but he could sense how much force Jiang Gu had used. A sudden panic gripped him: "No—"
"It's alright." Jiang Gu's jaw was tense. He held him with one hand and gripped the bone with the other, activating the magic array to fuse the hook at the bottom of the iron chain. He didn't forget to comfort Wei Feng when he had a moment, "Don't be afraid, leave it to me."
The white bone shattered instantly, but the connecting magic array was completed. The true fire on the iron chains stopped abruptly at the end, and the two thick iron chains snapped behind Wei Feng. The azure dragon that had been coiled on the stone pillar let out a deafening roar.
Jiang Gu raised his head and gave them a cold look.
The two azure dragons were so frightened that they swam a long way back to the stone pillar and obediently shut their mouths.
He then used the same method to melt the ice spikes in Wei Feng's ankles, so that at least he wouldn't be forced to kneel on the ground in only one position.
Wei Feng, exhausted, collapsed into his arms.
Jiang Gu helped him sit on the steps beside him, wiped away the tears and blood on his face with his sleeve, and said, "I can only temporarily break the chains and ice spikes with a magic array, but they are still suppressing you. I will think of another way soon."
Looking at his hands covered in blood, Wei Feng asked in a hoarse voice, "What did you use?"
“It’s just bones.” Jiang Gu didn’t hide it from him. “Someone blessed me; losing a couple of bones won’t kill me.”
Wei Feng was silent for a moment: "Remove the pain-transferring magic array. With the Chaos Core, I'm not in pain."
"It's alright, this formation will allow you to sense me at any time." Jiang Gu always has countless reasons to convince others of what he wants to do.
Wei Feng refused to look up at him: "You've remembered all your memories from the Upper Realm?"
"No," Jiang Gu said calmly. "Without immortal bones, I cannot receive any memories. I am still Jiang Gu. It was not my intention to shake you away at the Heavenly Gate; it was due to the erosion of memories."
Wei Feng felt a lump in his throat and finally couldn't help but rush towards him, hugging him tightly.
Jiang Gu raised his hand and gently patted his back: "I am your master and your Daoist partner. Even if you regain your memories in the future, nothing will change."
The fabric on his shoulder was soaked through, and tears seeped into the wound, causing a slight sting, but Jiang Gu breathed a sigh of relief.
"Master," Wei Feng said, hugging him tightly, his voice trembling with tears, "I'm scared."
He had too many fears. He was afraid that Jiang Gu would regain his memories and forget him, afraid that he would be thrown to the mortal realm by those immortals with a single word, afraid that the chaotic core in his body was constantly devouring his consciousness, and afraid that the chains that suppressed him would prevent him from ever getting out again.
She was even more afraid that Jiang Gu would abandon her.
He wasn't afraid at first; he thought that at worst they could die together. He wasn't afraid of death, pain, or any opponent stronger than himself. But he couldn't bear to part with Jiang Gu.
When he ascended to the upper realm and his consciousness dissipated, he could not see Jiang Gu's deep-seated fear no matter what.
Jiang Gu held him, feeling the pain and fear all over his body. His chest was gradually filled with a sour pain, a feeling similar to when Wei Feng almost dissipated after swallowing the Chaos Core, but more turbulent, intense, complex and unfamiliar.
He held Wei Feng in his arms, and a question suddenly arose in his mind: why had he never thought about Wei Feng's feelings?
"No need," he replied habitually.
Jiang Gu has always been domineering and tyrannical, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. He is extremely intelligent and can have anything he wants, so he never worries or is afraid of failure because he can always find a way. Success is a matter of course for him.
Therefore, he dared to put himself in a life-or-death situation and risk his own and others' lives without any burden, and dared to let Wei Feng swallow the Chaos Core and refine it into the Path to Heaven... In his eyes, this was something that was bound to succeed no matter what.
But he suddenly realized that these things were completely different for Wei Feng.
Wei Feng wasn't that clever. He didn't know what Jiang Gu was going to do. Even though Jiang Gu thought he had given clear hints and reminders, he was still worried and afraid. Whether in his past life or this one, he had very few people and things to possess. He was too weak and could be bullied at will, betrayed, deceived, and used. He would be driven to despair, and failure and pain would follow him like a shadow. His excessive emotions always made him anxious and insecure. Success was not a common occurrence for him, but a stroke of luck.
Jiang Gu was stunned, which is why he had been making Wei Feng live in fear all along.
He thought that taking Wei Feng with him to ascend would be enough to put Wei Feng at ease, but now he belatedly realizes that what puts Wei Feng at ease has never been ascension.
He was blinded by his own limited perspective.
Jiang Gu lowered his eyes and saw Wei Feng's hand tightly gripping his sleeve. Many years ago, back in Yanghua Sect, he had gripped his sleeve just as carefully and firmly, because he dared not grab his hand, lest he be disliked or thrown away.
Jiang Gu had lost count of how many times he had shaken him off, but each time the other man would relentlessly stick to him.
Once Jiang Gu figured out the key to it, he suddenly understood.
The surging emotions were far more vast and overwhelming than any previous memory, so unfamiliar and complex that they made him furrow his brow.
Wei Feng keenly sensed his emotional fluctuations, looked up at him, and assumed he was disgusted by him, so he put on a stern face and said, "Actually, I'm not that scared."
"Master?" He saw Jiang Gu in a daze and carefully tugged at his sleeve.
Jiang Gu lowered his head, grasped his hand, and intertwined their fingers: "It won't happen again."
Wei Feng looked at him with a somewhat blank expression.
Jiang Gu leaned in and kissed the tip of his nose.
He will never let Wei Feng be afraid again.
Wei Feng's head exploded with fireworks from Jiang Gu's kiss. Although they had engaged in spiritual cultivation many times, his ears still turned red when he saw the way Jiang Gu looked at him now.
——
Yao Yan Immortal Lord settled down in the dungeon at the bottom of Dragon Roar Mountain.
It is said that Prince Yaoshuo and the God Lingyin of the Nine Heavens personally went to fetch him but could not bring him back. They could only send good things to Longyin Mountain continuously. In less than two hours, Longyin Mountain was transformed into a replica of the Immortal Palace. Supplements and treasures were poured in like water, for fear of wronging their precious son.
But Immortal Lord Yaoyan remained unmoved, determined to stay inside and refuse to come out.
The gossip-loving immortals, after digging deep, finally discovered that the filthy creature imprisoned at the foot of Dragon Roar Mountain was none other than the object of Yao Yan Immortal Lord's love tribulation in the mortal realm, and his legitimate wife with whom he had formed a Daoist bond.
Recently, the most talked-about topic in the Upper Realm is whether Immortal Lord Yaoyan has overcome his love tribulation and his love-hate relationship with that filthy creature.
The entrance to Yuanyao Palace has been almost worn out by people these past two days, so Immortal Lord Yuanyao simply closed the palace gates and refused all visitors. However, some busy and idle immortals still came to inquire.
For example, Yao Yan's subordinates, Lin Feng and Ping Ming; Yao Yan's friends, Chang Ning, Zi Guang, and Feng Ji; and Yao Yan's mortal enemies, Wang Ting and Cang Wu.
These ancestors were all incredibly powerful. Yuan Yao, with a bitter face, tidied up his marriage tree that Wang Ting had messed up, and said with a pained expression, "Immortal Lord Feng Ji, please stop fighting with Demon Lord Cang Wu. Even if you destroy my Yuan Yao Palace, I still won't be able to reunite Prince Yao Yan with his lover."
Lin Feng and Ping Ming are a scholar and a warrior, respectively. Lin Feng, dressed in a blue robe, is refined and scholarly, while Ping Ming, in a martial outfit, carries a sword. The two did not come for the red thread, but to ask Yuan Yao how to help their immortal lord regain his memories.
"There's really no other way besides immortal bones." Yuan Yao, having given up all hope, sat on the ground watching Feng Ji and Cang Wu fight, while Wang Ting stood by, eager to join in.
Changning was fanning himself, seemingly lost in thought. Ziguang closed his book and said slowly, "I think that given Yaoyan's personality, he might have his own plans."
“It doesn’t matter if you can’t remember. Once Immortal Venerable Hongchen comes out of seclusion, he will naturally have a solution,” Changning said.
Zi Guang said, "Logically speaking, the predestined relationship during the tribulation is a past life, and there is no longer any connection after ascension. It's fine for Yao Yan to bring the Chaos Core, but it's probably inappropriate for him to bring his Daoist partner along as well."
"What do you mean bringing the Chaos Core is one thing?" Wang Ting exclaimed in shock. "Am I crazy or has the Nine Heavens gone mad? Cangwu, are you sure you can handle this? If not, let me do it!"
Feng Ji coldly said, "Both of you come at me together."
"If I can't deal with Yao Yan, I can at least deal with you?!" Wang Ting was enraged by his words and immediately made his move.
Yuan Yao sighed: "Go ahead and fight. I will send the list of damages to your palace when the time comes."
Changning snapped the fan shut and slammed it into his palm, saying, "No, we still have to go to Longyin Mountain."
“I’ll go with you,” Zi Guang said in a low voice, “but don’t bring these brutes.”
Changning nodded, and the two of them quietly went to Longyin Mountain.
"Are you sure this is Dragon Roar Mountain and not Yaoyan Palace?" Ziguang asked, somewhat surprised.
Changning, with a toothache, said, "It must be His Highness Yaoshuo and God Lingyin."
As they talked, the two skillfully evaded the guards, but were blocked by a magic array at the bottom of the mountain.
"The High God and His Highness have decreed that no one is allowed to trespass on Dragon's Roar Mountain. Anyone who disobeys will be executed without mercy." The guards stood in front of them, swords drawn.
Changning and Ziguang exchanged a glance, then turned and left.
At the foot of Dragon's Roar Mountain.
Wei Feng sat naked from the waist up on the bed of gold and jade, looking at the luxurious furnishings around him and the treasures that were still emerging from the magic array, his face showing even more bewilderment.
The two azure dragons that had been guarding him silently transformed into murals on the stone pillars, and the iron chains and ice spikes also disappeared. Although he could still feel the suppression, it was much more subtle. Not to mention, the magical seals that had previously made it hard for him to breathe suddenly seemed to have vanished...
"Master, what's going on?" Wei Feng turned to look at him, but Jiang Gu pressed his head back down.
He was applying the elixir that Ling Yin had sent to Wei Feng's shoulder blade when he heard this and said, "It was sent by Yao Shuo and Ling Yin."
Wei Feng knew that Yao Shuo was Yao Yan's father, and he was taken aback: "Did Little Immortal Lord Yao Yan have them send this?"
There was chaos in front of the Heavenly Gate at the time, and he had no idea which immortal Jiang Gu was. He only vaguely heard them say that Jiang Gu was of noble status. He was so heartbroken at the time that he didn't pay attention to which little immortal he was.
Jiang Gu was silent for a moment, then said, "...I am Yao Yan."
Wei Feng suddenly turned his head: "What did you say?!"
Recalling his experiences in the lower realm, he felt somewhat embarrassed to bring it up. He reached out and pinched Wei Feng's chin, turning his head away: "Don't move."
“Master, you are Yaoyan!” Wei Feng turned around again, his eyes shining as he looked at him. “My sealed memories are all about Yaoyan, Master. I loved you in the Upper Realm too! I’ve only ever loved you from beginning to end!”
Jiang Gu slowly narrowed his eyes: "You previously said that you extremely disliked Yao Yan and did not like him."
Wei Feng choked for a moment, then stammered, "That...that's because I didn't know it was you. I've always liked Yao Yan...no, I mean it's not that kind of liking for him, but I only like you..."
Jiang Gu curled the corners of his lips: "I know."
Wei Feng said dejectedly, "Anyway, I only like you. If you are Yao Yan, I like Yao Yan; if you are not Yao Yan, I hate him."
Jiang Gu looked at him intently, his eyes revealing both tenderness and aggression without any attempt to conceal them.
Wei Feng's heart skipped a beat when he saw him staring at him. He swallowed unconsciously, then wrapped his arms around his waist and leaned in closer.
Considering his injuries, Jiang Gu kissed him slowly, but Wei Feng was not satisfied and forced his way into his arms, pressing him into the soft brocade. Jiang Gu could only carefully hold his waist and slowly respond to him.
"Take care of your injuries first." Jiang Gu patted his waist.
The ghostly markings on Wei Feng's body wrapped around his neck and rubbed against him reluctantly, staring at him with bright eyes: "Master."
"No." Jiang Gu pinched his cheek. "You're too badly injured, and this place isn't safe either."
Wei Feng could only give up regretfully, and whispered something in Jiang Gu's ear. Jiang Gu's ears turned slightly red, and he said in a low voice, "Nonsense."
Wei Feng smiled brightly at him, affectionately nuzzled his ear, then suddenly his expression hardened, and he pulled a piece of paper out of the air.
Jiang Gu frowned: "What is that?"
Wei Feng handed it to him: "It seems to be for you."
Jiang Gu opened it and saw a simple line of text written on it:
A glimpse of the Golden Snow Waterfall in the Nine Heavens. Changning.
