The first day of the new year, February 16th.
We were deeply disturbed by the corpses on the three school buildings. Although it was winter, the stench and blood emanating from the bodies were still unbearable.
Without exception, those who couldn't stand it wore masks. As for me, I was used to the smell of human blood in the hospital, so the question of whether I could stand it or not didn't apply to me.
With so many of us moving the body together, we were quite fast.
Zhang Zhihao originally planned to throw the corpses down from upstairs, which would be convenient and quick. However, after he threw down one corpse and found it smashed to pieces and extremely disgusting, no one was willing to do it anymore.
Everyone obediently carried the bodies down from the top of the teaching buildings. In just two hours, we moved all the bodies down from the three teaching buildings and transported them away in pickup trucks to the outskirts of the city.
Decomposing corpses can easily breed bacteria, and piling them up near schools is not good for us.
Therefore, removing the body is the safest option.
We had originally considered cremation, but we were afraid that the smoke and flames would attract unwanted attention, so we abandoned the idea.
On the first day of the new year, we basically cleaned the entire school. All the bodies were taken away. As for the bloodstains left on the walls, we couldn't do anything about them for the time being and could only leave them there, since it didn't really matter anyway.
The dormitory building was still very quiet. Just to be on the safe side, we all stayed in the first girls' dormitory building.
The dormitories are all eight-person rooms. Fei Lichao, Yan Zhengfeng, and Pu Weichao each chose a dormitory room as their own. Zhang Zhihao slept with his brother-in-law, Li Qiming. As for the others, some shared rooms with two people, and some shared rooms with three people.
I did want to find someone to share a room with, but when I came to my senses, I found that they had all been assigned to their own rooms. Helpless, I could only choose a dormitory room to live in by myself.
But being alone is fine too; it's peaceful.
...
Two days later, training officially began.
Fei Lichao's training was brutal from the very beginning. We were all woken up before six in the morning, when it was still dark!
Although we harbored resentment, we had all agreed to the training, so we had no choice but to accept Fei Lichao's training.
The first training exercise was running ten laps around the track.
It looks easy, but thinking about it, it's really crazy.
Ten laps, each lap is 400 meters, that's a full 4,000 meters, brother!
Running 4,000 meters before even having breakfast this morning? Are they crazy?! I regret agreeing to the training.
Fortunately, the first day was just for us to get used to it, and after running the 4,000 meters, there was no further training.
Many people went back to sleep.
I can't sleep. When I was a doctor, I was on duty for 24 hours straight, and I was exhausted like a dog. Now I'm just running 4,000 meters, which is nothing compared to before.
I got back to my dorm room and was just about to wash my face when there was a knock on the door.
"The door's unlocked, come in," I said.
The person outside pushed the door open and entered.
I habitually turned on the tap in the bathroom, but no water came out, which puzzled me for a while.
Looking back, I saw Lu Jing coming into the dormitory with two bottles of mineral water and two pieces of bread, and I knew what she was there for.
"I've brought you breakfast," Lu Jing said.
"Thanks, Sister Jing." I took the water, drank some, and put the bread aside. I shouldn't eat anything right after exercising.
Lu Jing hesitated, holding a bottle of mineral water and saying with a wry smile, "Xiao Nan, you should know why I came here, right?"
I nodded. "Sister Jing, please have a seat. There's no rush."
On the night before Chinese New Year, at the end of the holiday, I told everyone that if they had any unhappiness, questions, or unresolved issues, they could come to me.
I waited for three days, and Lu Jing was the first person to come looking for me.
It seems that, as Pu Weichao said, Lu Jing's psychological problems are indeed quite serious.
This also puts pressure on me. After all, I'm not a psychologist. How am I supposed to solve their psychological problems?
Lu Jing sat across from me and said, "Xiao Nan, you witnessed my daughter and my husband die with your own eyes."
I nodded and hummed in agreement.
Lu Jing stared at the ground and said, "When I was in Linshan, I thought I had made it through, but these past two days I've found myself unable to take it anymore..."
At this point, she suddenly burst into tears, which left me stunned.
what do I do?
Should I comfort her, or let her cry it out?
After crying for a long time, Lu Jing finally sobbed, "I'm sorry, I... I just couldn't hold back."
I said, "It's okay, go ahead and cry, it'll make you feel better."
I waited for more than ten minutes before Sister Jing's emotions gradually calmed down. She wiped away the tears on her cheeks and said, "Xiaonan, can you tell me what I should do now?"
I was at a loss for what to do.
But Sister Jing has been waiting for my reply, and I can't just stay silent forever, can I?
However, judging from Jing's appearance, I understood what was wrong with her. The deaths of her husband and daughter still dealt her a heavy blow. She seemed to have moved on before, but she was just suppressing her grief. After the Lunar New Year, the longing in her heart erupted, making it unbearable for her.
That's why she's crying like this now. If things continue like this, she might become completely desperate.
I blinked and said, "Sister Jing, can I ask you something? Do you have any other relatives?"
Lu Jing was taken aback, not expecting me to ask such a question, and nodded blankly, "Yes, I have a younger sister."
There is hope!
I asked hurriedly, "Is she still alive?"
Lu Jing shook her head: "I don't know. She studied in Ninghai before, and I don't know how she is now."
I said, "Sister Jing, your daughter and husband's situation is all in the past. I was also in great pain when Wu Shuang died, and I haven't really gotten over it yet. But we can't let this pain take over our emotions. You know, we now have such a safe place, and maybe more people will join us in the future."
“We need to look forward. What we need now is to survive and find our relatives who are still alive. Don’t you think so, Sister Jing?”
Lu Jing wiped away the tears in her eyes and said, "Yes, live on, find your family, and I believe my sister is still alive."
I nodded: "I believe it too."
I also believe that my parents are still alive. They may be living somewhere, or they may be waiting for me to come to them, or they may have been searching for me all along.
Anything is possible. I believe that as long as we live, we will meet again someday.
