I lay helplessly on the concrete floor, looking at the dark night sky, which was dotted with many stars. Countless stars were shining, and I had never seen so many stars in my life.
Wu Shuang and I held hands tightly, not wanting to let go, nor daring to let go, for fear that the other would suddenly disappear.
"Holy crap, that scared me to death," Pu Weichao said with difficulty, slumped to the side.
After Fei Lichao returned, he hugged and thanked the soldier who had saved them.
He asked his comrade beside him, "Has Leopard returned?"
"No," the other person said. "Didn't he go out with you, Captain?"
"We got separated," Fei Lichao said.
"What about Liangzi?"
"He's dead." Fei Lichao said it calmly, but everyone understood how much pain he was in.
No one cried, no one mourned; everyone grieved silently in their hearts.
Fei Lichao rested for a minute or two, then came over and kicked me, saying, "Get up. I went through all that trouble to bring you back here so you could waste your time. Come in with me."
I stood up, still holding Wu Shuang's hand tightly.
Following behind Fei Lichao, I realized that this was still outside the air-raid shelter. They had parked several off-road vehicles in a circle at the entrance, then closed it off to form a semi-circular open space, which would also make it easier to defend.
The real air-raid shelter is the door at the bottom of the steps ahead.
"Hey, wait for me!" Pu Weichao called out from behind.
As I walked down the steps, I saw the words above the entrance.
"Entrance to the civil defense project".
This must be an air-raid shelter.
Following Fei Lichao into the entrance, and going around the entrance wall, I saw the overcrowded air-raid shelter.
The air-raid shelter is indeed a cave with an arched structure, about three meters high and five meters wide, but its depth is unknown.
We arrived dusty and travel-worn and found the air-raid shelter packed with people. It was almost full, with many people resting against the walls, some even asleep and snoring.
Fei Lichao walked ahead with a gun, saying nothing, leading us into the deepest part of the area.
There was a room at the very back, and when I went inside, I found that it was a storage room for supplies.
The supplies here are clearly prepared in preparation for this situation.
Fei Lichao led us to a corner of the storage room, where we immediately saw a middle-aged man in military uniform leaning against the wall, his face pale, with two soldiers guarding him.
When the middle-aged man saw us coming, he looked up, smiled, and said, "Tip, you're back."
Fei Lichao saluted and said, "Yes, Battalion Commander, I'm back. I've brought you a doctor."
The middle-aged battalion commander gave a wry smile. "Why bother? Didn't I tell you I was fine? Why did you actually go out? How are you? Did anything happen?"
Fei Lichao's expression was gloomy as he said, "Liangzi is dead, and Leopard hasn't come back yet."
"Sigh." The middle-aged battalion commander sighed and shook his head, saying, "It's all because of me. I'm sorry."
Fei Lichao said, "Battalion Commander, please don't talk about these things yet. I've found a doctor for you. Let him examine you first."
“Alright, come over here,” the middle-aged battalion commander said.
I paused for a moment, then saw Fei Lichao wink at me. I let go of Wu Shuang's hand and walked over, asking, "Where do you feel unwell?"
“My stomach,” he said.
I checked on his condition and said, "Can you lie down? That way it will be easier for me to examine you."
The battalion commander nodded and lay down, enduring the pain.
I pressed on his stomach, and when I pressed on the lower right side of his abdomen, the battalion commander couldn't help but cry out in pain.
"Ah! This is it," the battalion commander said with a ferocious expression.
I asked, "When did the pain start?"
"It's been two days, hasn't it?" the battalion commander said.
Two days is a bit long.
Fei Lichao asked, "How is it? What exactly happened?"
I checked again to confirm before saying, "Acute appendicitis, surgery is required."
Fei Lichao was not surprised at all. Obviously, he had already guessed it beforehand. After all, his stomach pain had lasted for two days and the pain had shifted. Anyone with a little experience would have thought it was appendicitis.
"Surgery?" The middle-aged battalion commander gave a wry smile. "Isn't that unnecessary? Can't you take some medicine?"
I glanced at Fei Lichao and said, "If we don't operate, it will continue to get inflamed, and if it causes an infection, it'll be fatal."
I'm not exaggerating, this is really the result.
"What if we need surgery?" Fei Lichao asked.
I shook my head and said, "I'm not sure. There's no operating room here. If we perform surgery rashly, it might cause an infection. If the wound gets infected, it might also cause problems."
Fei Lichao frowned. "You fucking...so you'll get infected no matter what? You'll die?"
The middle-aged battalion commander said painfully, "Xiao Fei, don't get agitated. Since there's no other way, let's just leave it at that."
Ignoring the battalion commander's words, Fei Lichao grabbed my collar, glared at me, and said, "Aren't you a doctor?! I don't blame you if you can't save Liangzi, but battalion commander, you have to heal him for me!"
I was starting to get a little scared of him, so I swallowed hard and said, "Surgery is possible, but we need clean surgical instruments and a relatively clean environment to minimize the risk of infection."
Fei Lichao let go of me, picked up a backpack from the side, and said, "This is the equipment left behind by our military doctor. It contains what you need."
