Chapter 214 Forced into a corner

(The third update is here, and there will be another one later.)

Fei Lichao moved quickly, and neither of them had a chance to resist.

Zhang Zhihao appeared very quickly, in less than ten seconds. He drove up to us, and Fei Lichao and I helped the two of them into the car and left immediately, returning to the hotel.

There were people in the hotel to meet them. Fei Lichao carried the man upstairs, while Zhang Zhihao and I carried the woman together.

Upon reaching the fifth floor, we found stools and ropes already prepared. Before the two men woke up, we searched their entire bodies, finding all the sharp weapons before binding them.

After I finished all that, I told everyone else to go outside and wait, and Fei Lichao and I would be the ones to question them.

A moment later, Fei Lichao slapped the man across the face. The man woke up, looking at us with a blank expression. In less than two seconds, he realized what was happening, his eyes filled with terror, and he shouted, "Who are you! What are you doing! Let me go! Who are you people...?"

Fei Lichao was annoyed by his shouting and yelling, so he clenched his fists as if to hit him, but I stopped him.

I pulled out a scalpel and placed it against the woman's neck, saying, "Please be quiet. I don't want to hurt you. If you make any more noise, believe me, I'll slit her throat."

After hearing my words, the man paused, staring at me with surprise and hatred in his eyes. He clearly recognized me. He then said angrily, "Let me tell you, if you dare to touch a single hair on her head, I will make sure you die a horrible death."

I frowned, thinking that I should have just let Fei Lichao beat him up.

I said, "I won't waste my breath on you. We didn't bring you here to hurt you; we just want to know some things."

The man stubbornly replied, "I won't tell you anything you ask!"

I chuckled, pulled up a chair and sat down opposite him, saying, "Don't rush me, let me finish. What I want to know isn't about your neighborhood. I have no interest in your neighborhood or your people, and I don't even care to know your name."

The man couldn't understand what I was saying.

A hint of surprise and doubt appeared in his eyes, but he quickly regained his guard; he clearly did not believe what I said.

I laughed and said, "Of course, before I ask you anything, I have to give you a heads-up. If you don't answer me after I've asked you, I don't mind taking action against you. I don't want to kill anyone, but that doesn't mean I won't. If you want to go back safely with your woman, just answer my questions. As long as you answer them all, I will let you go."

The man remained silent.

“To put your guard down, let me introduce myself. My name is Lu Xiaonan, and his name is Fei Lichao. We’re from Jiajiang. Whether you believe me or not is none of my business.” As I spoke, I put the knife aside and then pulled out the pistol from my waist and placed it aside as well. “I’ll leave these things aside; I won’t use them on you, much less harm you. But just in case, I won’t untie you, lest you resist.”

"I've finished speaking. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me. I'll answer them if I can," I said.

To gain someone's trust, you must first put yourself in their shoes.

The man's gaze softened slightly; he'd fallen into my trap. He asked, "What exactly do you want? I don't believe you kidnapped me just to ask me questions!"

I laughed and said, "That's just how it is. There's nothing you can do if you don't believe it."

The man said, "Alright, what questions do you want to ask me? I'll tell you, but if you ask me about the neighborhood, I'd rather die than tell you!"

I nodded: "Don't worry, I won't ask about your neighborhood. I just want to ask you, do you know someone named Zhou Liang?"

I didn't ask Sun Shichao directly because I was afraid of triggering his defensiveness.

The man frowned, his expression turning strange, and asked me, "What's your relationship with him?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Looks like you know him."

The man nodded. "Yes, I know him, but why are you asking about him?"

I said, "He is my enemy."

"An enemy?!" the man exclaimed in surprise.

I nodded. "Two months ago, he killed five of my friends in Jiajiang and even kidnapped two of them. I know he's in Wutong City now, so I've come to seek revenge."

The man slightly opened his mouth, staring at me and Fei Lichao in surprise. His expression had completely changed from before, turning into shock.

"So, it was you guys all along!"

I frowned. "What do you mean?"

The man's gaze fell on me, and he shook his head with a wry smile, "So what they were talking about was true!"

I didn't understand what he was talking about. But he seemed to know a lot, so I stepped forward, grabbed his collar, and asked, "Tell me, what exactly do you know!"

The man looked at me and said, "I can tell you, but could you untie the ropes binding me first?"

I frowned and took a step back.

The man said, "Don't worry, I know from your expressions that you're telling the truth, and I understand what you're saying. I thought it was just a rumor before, but after hearing what you've said, I understand. Let go of me and my girlfriend, so we can have a proper conversation. What do you say?"

I said, "Okay, but don't try anything funny."

"Don't worry, I won't," the man said sincerely.

I gave Fei Lichao a hand gesture, and without hesitation, Fei Lichao untied the ropes binding the two men.

After the man got up, he carried the still unconscious woman to the sofa, laid her down, and then faced us, saying, "Since you trust me, I trust you too. As for Zhou Liang, I can tell you."

"Um."

After pondering for a while, the man finally spoke: "Actually, I didn't know about Zhou Liang's existence before. He suddenly appeared two months ago and started using the military forces stationed by the municipal government to communicate with the surrounding survivor teams. The main purpose was to exchange information and make contact with each other. At first, the communication went smoothly, and our cooperation was quite useful."

"But then a person appeared, a person named Xu Le. I guess you don't know him. This guy lives in that high school on Huancheng North Road. He has a conflict with the municipal government, which makes a lot of teams very conflicted."

Xu Le?

The moment I heard this name, I felt like I'd seen it somewhere before, but I couldn't quite place it. This puzzled me, but that's not the point.

I said, "Don't talk about these trivial things, I want to hear about Zhou Liang."

The man nodded: "Okay, let's not talk about that. Let's talk about what happened half a month ago. The rumors about you started circulating half a month ago."
