Zhang Zhihao and I both stared at Su Mu.
I asked, "If this wasn't written by you, then who wrote it? Zhang Zhihao said the handwriting on it is yours, so do you think there's any point in you saying all this?"
Su Mu stared at me, his expression unreadable. He snorted coldly and said, "Tell me, what exactly do you two want? What's the point of showing me this letter? What's the meaning of its contents? Are you two playing a trick on me?"
Looking at Su Mu's puzzled yet slightly angry expression, I didn't know if he was acting or not.
I began to doubt whether he was the one who did it.
If he really did it, he could have admitted it and explained his purpose. But he didn't say that; instead, he remained confused about what had happened.
Zhang Zhihao and I exchanged a glance.
Zhang Zhihao asked, "Su Mu, Brother Lu and I didn't mean to make fun of you. I just want to know, did you write this thing?"
Su Mu stared at Zhang Zhihao, narrowing his eyes. "Zhang Zhihao, what exactly are you guys up to?"
Zhang Zhihao remained expressionless. "Answer my question: did you write this?"
Su Mu slammed the envelope and letter on the table and said, "No!"
He then explained, "I've been in meetings since noon, you know that, how could I have time to write this stuff!"
Zhang Zhihao said, "Okay, then I'll believe you for now. If this letter really wasn't written by you, then you shouldn't know about this."
I glanced at Zhang Zhihao but didn't stop him from saying that.
"What's the matter?" Su Mu asked with a puzzled look in his eyes.
Zhang Zhihao said, "Sun Zichen and Sister Jing have gone missing."
Su Mu looked at us in confusion, "Missing?! What happened? How could these two people disappear?"
Zhang Zhihao said, "I guess it's because of this letter that Sun Zichen came to Sister Jing after receiving it, and then the two of them went to the basement outside the back gate of the community. The letter was found in the basement outside, and most importantly, someone saw the two of them go out through the back door!"
Su Mu glanced down at the letter on the coffee table, then slowly nodded and said, "I understand, so that's how it is. Sun Zichen and Lu Jing disappeared, and then because you found this letter, you suspect that I was the one who did it, right?"
"Isn't that right?" I asked.
Su Mu sneered, "Dr. Lu, listen to what you're saying. Does it make sense? Putting aside this letter, what reason would I have to kidnap Sun Zichen and Lu Jing? Do you think I would kidnap them to threaten you into joining Jiangbei? Do you think I'm that stupid? Even if I wanted to threaten you, I only needed to kidnap Lu Jing. Why would I kidnap an unrelated person like Sun Zichen?"
Su Mu looked at Zhang Zhihao and asked, "When did these two people go missing?"
"Around noon, it should be in the morning."
Su Mu nodded: "I hadn't gone to the meeting this morning, no wonder you suspect me, but I can swear that I definitely didn't do this."
"Since this happened so long ago, have you looked for it?"
Zhang Zhihao said, "I've had people search, but we couldn't find it inside Jiangbei, and we've also had people search outside, but we still can't find it."
Su Mu stroked his chin. "In that case, the problem is much bigger."
If it really wasn't Su Mu who did it, then the problem is indeed huge.
Who exactly kidnapped Sun Zichen and Sister Jing?
I stared at Su Mu, and a possibility came to mind.
Su Mu noticed my gaze and asked, "Dr. Lu, are you still doubting me?"
I said, "Why can't I doubt you before things are clear?"
Su Mu nodded. "That's true. You do have reason to suspect me, especially since our conversation yesterday wasn't pleasant, so you think I would do something to you. But I really didn't do it, so no matter how much you suspect me, it's useless."
Zhang Zhihao said, "If it wasn't you, then who forged this letter? I remember that Sun Zichen and you had a good relationship. He must have recognized your handwriting, which is why he left."
Su Mu shook his head. "I don't know either. Since the other party was willing to forge this letter, it means that this person is very familiar with my handwriting. The person who wrote this letter must be someone who frequently comes into contact with me, or someone who frequently comes into contact with my writing. So what is this person's purpose? Forging this letter and kidnapping Sun Zichen and Lu Jing must have a purpose."
Purpose?
What is the purpose?
If it was only Sister Jing who was kidnapped, then the person who did it must be Su Mu.
But if Sun Zichen also disappears, then the problem becomes much bigger.
I looked at them and said, "Could they be... people from Biyuan?"
Su Mu and Zhang Zhihao looked at me.
Su Mu asked, "Tell me your thoughts."
I stared at Su Mu and said, "If Biyuan did this, then it means there is a traitor in Jiangbei, or that the traitor is Sun Zichen."
Zhang Zhihao's face was full of confusion. "Wait, wait, Brother Lu, how did Sun Zichen become a traitor?"
"Don't speak." Su Mu raised his hand to stop Zhang Zhihao from interrupting.
I continued, "Because you just said that Sun Zichen and Su Mu are good friends, I think he must know Su Mu's handwriting. What if he is a mole in Biyuan, forged this letter, and then tricked Sister Jing into leaving?"
Su Mu nodded. "It's not impossible, but I know Sun Zichen. He's not that kind of person. We've been struggling together since the beginning of the zombie outbreak. He basically had no chance to come into contact with anyone from Biyuan. So I disagree with what you're saying."
I said, "If he isn't, then there's a big problem. There's a traitor in Jiangbei who forged this letter, tricked the two of them out, and then Biyuan kidnapped them."
Su Mu frowned at me and said, "If we assume this line of thinking, there are probably many possible outcomes. If it really was Biyuan who did this, they must have had a purpose in secretly kidnapping Sun Zichen and Lu Jing. And they would definitely have let us know, but they've been kidnapped for almost half a day now, and we haven't heard a thing..."
Knock knock knock.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
We turned around and saw that it was Zhang Zhihao's girlfriend, Mu Xiaoyu.
Zhang Zhihao hurriedly ran out and asked, "Why did you come here? Is there something you need?"
Mu Xiaoyu walked in holding a letter and said, "No, I'm here to see Su Mu. I have a letter for him."
Upon hearing that a letter was to be delivered to Su Mu, the three of us instantly tensed up.
Zhang Zhihao took the letter from Mu Xiaoyu, tore it open, glanced at the letter inside, and his face immediately turned angry.
Su Mu took the letter from his hand, and after reading its contents, he sneered, "Just as I expected."
I stared at the contents of the letter, my heart turning to ice.
“Su Mu, your two men are now in my hands. If you want them back, meet me at the Zhujiu Pavilion in Beisong Park at 10:00 AM on June 15th. Biyuan, Li Shujiang.”
