Upon hearing Pu Weichao's shout, my heart seemed to stop, and I lunged forward without hesitation.
But it was too late. A monster suddenly appeared from behind, grabbed my clothes, and pulled me backward. I lost my balance and fell to the side!
I saw Pu Weichao holding a machete, trying to slash at the monster behind me, but when I flipped him over, he had no way to attack.
I rolled over on the ground, my knees slamming hard against the floor, making me wince in pain.
What terrified me even more was that when I opened my eyes, I saw this noseless female monster in front of me with her mouth wide open. Without saying a word, she pounced on me and tried to bite me!
"Bang!"
Just as the monster's mouth was only a centimeter away from my cheek, a loud bang came from behind me.
In an instant, a bloody hole appeared in the monster's head, and it died completely.
I breathed a sigh of relief, collapsed to the ground, trembling all over. I swallowed hard, only to realize that my back was covered in cold sweat.
They were all terrified, it was so damn scary!
If Fei Lichao hadn't fired the shot in time, I probably would have been bitten!
Pu Weichao dragged me away from the dead monster. Fei Lichao went into the inner room of the gatehouse to take a look, and only came out after confirming that it was safe.
Fei Lichao said, "They were careless just now and forgot to check the situation here. Dr. Lu, are you alright?"
"It's alright..." I shook my head, got up from the ground, and used the table next to me to stand up again. What had just happened had scared me half to death, and my legs were still weak.
Pu Weichao supported me, his face grave, and said, "If you're alright, we need to get out of here quickly. The gunshots were very loud, and those zombies outside must have heard them. It wouldn't be good if they blocked us here."
Fei Lichao nodded, agreeing with his idea, and then stared at me.
I glanced at them both a few times, then finally nodded and said, "Don't worry, I'm fine, I can manage!"
"Be careful next time, you know? If you die, what's the point of us coming out here?" Fei Lichao warned seriously.
"I know, I'll be careful from now on." I felt a bitter taste in my mouth; the journey ahead probably wouldn't be easy.
Fei Lichao stared at the monsters outside the gatehouse. We noticed that after hearing the gunshots, these monsters all gathered towards the gatehouse.
Fei Lichao opened the window of the guardhouse, jumped onto the table, turned to us and said, "You two stick close to me."
As soon as he finished speaking, he jumped out of the window, wielding his machete without mercy, and hacked to death the monsters blocking his way.
"You go first, I'll cover the rear," Pu Weichao said, and pushed me forward.
I stood at the window watching Fei Lichao swing his knife outside. I gritted my teeth, jumped down, and landed steadily. I saw a monster running towards me, raised my axe, and slashed at it.
But before he could even strike, Fei Lichao's machete sliced off the monster's head and said, "Don't be reckless, stick close to me."
I gave a wry smile and followed closely behind him. At this moment, Pu Weichao also jumped out of the window of the gatehouse. After killing the two monsters that charged at him, he caught up with us.
The hospital is about a block away, roughly two or three hundred meters away.
Across the street, there were countless monsters.
Going directly there is obviously impossible, so we have to take a detour.
After Fei Lichao fought his way through, he ran towards a lane to the north, and we followed closely behind him.
The alleyway is safe. Because of the gunshots, all the monsters were lured to the gatehouse. Now that we've run out, they haven't chased after us.
Fei Lichao walked through the alley to the other exit, looked at the situation outside, and whispered, "We need to cross this street to the other side, then go around to the side of the hospital and go in through the side door."
Go in through the side door?
I am familiar with the hospital's layout. The side door that Fei Lichao mentioned should be the door through which he rescued me and Wu Shuang last time.
"So, now we..."
"Wait, look!" Pu Weichao interrupted Fei Lichao, pointing to a figure across the street and saying, "Is that guy a living person?"
I looked closely and saw that the guy across the street was walking towards the hospital with his body low to the ground, holding a stick in his hand, obviously for self-defense.
"It really is!" Fei Lichao exclaimed.
The three of us stared at that guy.
He hesitated as he faced the monsters in front of him. After killing one with his stick, the monsters behind and in front of him closed in. In his panic, the stick in his hand clattered to the ground.
As for that guy, he turned around and hid in a mobile phone store, and it's unknown whether he's dead or alive!
Upon seeing this, Pu Weichao rushed out.
Fei Lichao decisively grabbed him and asked, "Where the hell are you going?!"
"Help!" Pu Weichao frowned, shook off Fei Lichao's hand, and ran out of the alley.
There weren't many monsters on the streets, but there weren't few either. It would be very dangerous for Pu Weichao to run through them alone.
"Damn it!" Fei Lichao cursed under his breath and said to me, "Stay close to me."
Feeling helpless, I followed him into the street. Fei Lichao was carrying a machete and a pistol. If the machete couldn't do the job, he would use the pistol to blow the monsters' heads off.
As they walked along, the streets were littered with corpses.
In no time, Fei Lichao caught up with Pu Weichao.
When Pu Weichao ran over, he was mostly dodging the monsters and didn't confront them head-on, so he was very fast.
