At seven o'clock the next morning, the three of us set off to leave the Southeast Residential Area.
After we arrived at the Southeast Community last night, we went to sleep. Jingjie's condition was much better than I had imagined. She woke up once last night, and we told her the news of Zhang Zhihao's death.
Jingjie cried very hard.
It was very late when our group finally went to sleep.
Perhaps because I felt so frustrated, we barely slept at all. I stayed awake until dawn, thinking about many things, and the more I thought about it, the more upset I became.
At 6:30, we got out of bed. Lu Yun was still asleep, so we didn't disturb her. We went downstairs, took Zhang Zhihao's body, and left the Southeast Residential Area.
Fei Lichao was driving, I was in the passenger seat, and Sister Jing was in the back seat. Zhang Zhihao's body was placed on the side seat.
Although it looked a bit creepy, none of the three of us minded.
Zhang Zhihao was family to us, and as family, it was only right for us to see him off on his final journey.
The industrial park is not far from the Southeast Residential Area; both are located south of Jiajiang.
After a half-hour drive, we arrived at the industrial park.
The industrial park was still the same as before, uninhabited, with only some zombies wandering around. After we went in, we came to the place where I had buried them before. The tombstones made of a few wooden planks were still there, but because of the rain earlier, the tombstones were a bit crooked.
We stopped the car, lifted Zhang Zhihao's body out of the vehicle, and placed it on the ground to the side. Then Fei Lichao and I took two shovels and began digging a pit next to Li Qiming's grave.
Jingjie watched Zhang Zhihao from the side. She had only learned about Zhang Zhihao's situation last night, and it was understandable that she was still emotionally unstable. Fei Lichao and I didn't try to persuade her. Jingjie wasn't a child; she could control herself in this kind of situation. It was good for her to vent now.
After digging for ten minutes, we put Zhang Zhihao in the hole, then filled it with soil. Sister Jing broke off a piece of the remaining wooden board, took out a knife, and carved words on it.
After carving the words, Sister Jing placed the wooden board in front of Zhang Zhihao's grave, knelt on the muddy ground, and was extremely saddened.
Fei Lichao and I stood on either side of Sister Jing. Sparrows hopped on the concrete ground in the distance, their chirping coming from above. The sun shone through the gaps in the trees, falling on the three of our faces, a little warm and a little hot.
Sister Jing cried for a long time, and we stood there for a long time.
I stared at the tombstone, feeling empty inside. I said, "Zhang Zhihao, you don't have to work so hard anymore. Sleep well. There will be no more worries to bother you. Leave everything here to us."
After hearing what I said, Fei Lichao said from the side, "You little bastard, that's not fair of me. I'm your teacher, after all. Is it appropriate for me to just leave without saying a word?"
Tears streamed down our faces, and sobs began to rise.
I glanced at the tombstone in front of me.
Chen Chen, Yun Lan, Yan Zhengfeng, Li Qiming, Li Dong, and now Zhang Zhihao.
I never imagined that we would become so shattered. And Wu Shuang, so far away in Hangzhou, I'm sure she can see the sunrise every morning now.
And Pu Weichao, Ke Jiamin, Zhong Linyun, Zhou Qingya, I don’t know if they are still alive. If they are, where are they now?
After Pu Weichao went to Wutong City, he and Zhou Liang disappeared without a trace. I don't know if Ke Jiamin is with him. I can't investigate this matter, so I can only put it aside for now and go to Wutong City to investigate it when I have time later.
As for Zhong Linyun, that little girl, and Zhou Qingya, that big star, they might be living somewhere in Jiajiang City, or they might have already left Jiajiang City.
Regardless of whether they are in Jiajiang City or not, I have to find a way to locate them.
An hour later.
Around 8:40, we set off to return to Chen Yefei's Southeast Community.
Fei Lichao was still driving, and I sat in the back seat. Jingjie's head was resting on my shoulder. Although the matter was over, her emotions were still very unstable. I guess it will take her a while to recover.
We were both silent on the way back because we didn't know what to say.
In addition, Jingjie's emotions were very unstable, so Fei Lichao and I didn't say much along the way. Perhaps Jingjie needed comfort right now, but to be honest, neither Fei Lichao nor I knew how to comfort her.
Zhang Zhihao's death was caused by Biyuan. This whole thing was orchestrated by Biyuan. I may also bear some responsibility, but Biyuan cannot escape responsibility for this.
No matter what, I will make Biyuan pay the price.
And it must come at an incredibly heavy price.
...
Half an hour later, we returned to the Southeast Community.
I took Sister Jing back to the room to rest, and not long after, Chen Yefei came to find me.
Chen Yefei pulled me into his office, and I asked, "Why are you in such a hurry? What's the matter?"
Chen Yefei said, "I'm fine. I just want to ask what's going on? So many people suddenly came and stayed here before, and you brought people over again late last night. What's going on? Did something happen to you?"
Chen Yefei spoke softly, but seemed very worried. It was unclear whether he was worried about us or about the Southeast Residential Area.
I said, "Something has indeed happened."
"Is it serious?" Chen Yefei asked. "I saw you guys leave a long time ago, what happened?"
I said, "Zhang Zhihao is dead. I just went to dispose of his body, and I'm back now."
"Ah!" Chen Yefei exclaimed in surprise, "He...he's dead? How could that be!"
I said, "It was done by people from Biyuan. I can't explain this to you in a short time. We just came from Jiangbei last night, and I should be going to Jiangbei again tomorrow. You shouldn't get involved in this. This has nothing to do with your Southeast Community, and I don't want to involve you. It would be too dangerous for you."
Chen Yefei looked somewhat shocked; judging from his expression, he was clearly processing what I had just said.
"You really can't tell me? Maybe I can help you think of a solution."
I frowned and thought for a moment, then said, "I can tell you, but I don't think you can help much with this. Let's wait until after lunch and talk on the rooftop. You can think of a solution then."
Chen Yefei did not refuse, "No problem, I'll come and get you then."
"Hmm." I forced a smile, turned to leave, but then suddenly remembered something and asked, "Do you know where Wang Hao is?"
Chen Yefei thought for a moment and said, "He should be helping with patrols outside. I'll go look for him for you."
I shook my head. "No need, I can go by myself."
