After contacting Sister Jing, I stood on the rooftop for a long time, when I heard a commotion downstairs—the sound of someone cursing.
Upon closer listening, it seemed to be coming from the third floor.
"What are you saying, you little bitch! If you dare to talk nonsense again, believe me, I'll tear your mouth apart!"
After that, someone said something, but their voice was too soft for me to hear clearly from the rooftop.
Then, the woman started swearing again.
"You little bastard, you don't know anything and you're just spouting nonsense. What do you mean you were bitten? You're the ones who were bitten! You two whore who came from who-knows-where, how dare you talk nonsense here? If you dare say another word, I'll beat you to death!"
The sounds of fighting came from below, along with the clamor of many people trying to break up the fight; in short, it was very chaotic.
I didn't know what had happened, so I hurried downstairs.
Upon arriving on the third floor, they happened to run into Du Xu, who was coming up from the conference room downstairs. He had obviously heard the commotion on the third floor and had come up to check on the situation.
We exchanged a glance; needless to say, neither of us knew what had happened up there.
Upon entering the corridor on the third floor, I saw a large crowd gathered there, with some people making a scene and shouting insults, including various curses directed at their ancestors.
Du Xu and I went over, and Du Xu immediately shouted, "What are you doing? What are you doing? What's all the noise about!"
Upon hearing Du Xu's voice, these people all turned around and looked at him.
Du Xu was their leader, so when they saw him coming, the noise gradually quieted down, and the people who were arguing in the middle shut their mouths and said nothing more.
Du Xu and I walked into the middle of the crowd.
Du Xu frowned and glanced at everyone present, saying, "What's going on? What's causing such a serious argument?"
I stood behind him and glanced at the center of the crowd. I saw that it was Wang Xintong and Huang Yiyang, along with another woman who looked to be about forty years old. She had her arms crossed, turned her face away, and looked at Wang Xintong with disgust.
As for Wang Xintong at this moment, with her head tilted to the side, she really looked like a shrew. Her expression felt familiar to me.
Huang Yiyang, standing behind Wang Xintong, looked troubled.
After Du Xu asked his question, no one answered. Many people looked puzzled, as if they didn't know what had happened either.
Du Xu frowned and said, "Tell me, what exactly happened!"
"Ask those two little sluts yourselves!" the woman said angrily, pointing at Wang Xintong.
I glanced at Wang Xintong, wondering what had happened.
When Wang Xintong heard the other person insulting her, she said unhappily, "Who are you calling an old slut!"
Huang Yiyang stood aside, seemingly uninterested.
I stared at Wang Xintong. Huang Yiyang had said she had a cold and was sleeping, but her current energetic appearance clearly didn't indicate a cold. This strongly suggested that the Wang Xintong in front of me wasn't the real Wang Xintong, but rather her alternate personality. Moreover, this alternate personality felt very familiar to me; her roguish expression and words were almost certainly it!
Du Xu, who couldn't stand it any longer, said, "That's enough, you two. Go back to your dorm rooms. Everyone else, leave."
Du Xu's words had the effect of an order, and the woman followed Du Xu into the bedroom.
"Tch." Wang Xintong rolled her eyes and followed the woman into the bedroom.
As for the others, none of them planned to leave; they wanted to stay outside and hear what was happening.
Huang Yiyang walked up to me with a wry smile.
I asked, "What's going on?"
Huang Yiyang shook his head, "I don't know what's going on either. I just got back and saw Xintong arguing with that woman, and now Xintong doesn't seem to be Xintong anymore, but..."
I nodded and said, "I know, it must be the one who had a bad temper before. Let's go in too. Since Wang Xintong got angry, maybe something really happened."
I pulled Huang Yiyang into the dormitory.
As soon as I entered, I heard the woman talking.
"Du Xu, I think you should just get rid of these two little bitches. Keeping them here is just a waste of our food, and they don't do anything. What's the point of keeping people like that here?"
Wang Xintong sneered from the side, without saying a word in rebuttal, but her smile seemed very cold.
Du Xu raised his hand and looked at the woman, saying, "Alright, stop talking. I'm asking why you two were arguing just now, not for you to spout this nonsense!"
"because……"
Before the woman could speak, Wang Xintong interrupted, "Because her husband was bitten by a zombie, and she doesn't want to tell anyone. She even said I was slandering her. Don't you think she's trying to kill us?"
Upon hearing this, I saw Du Xu's expression change.
"What did you just say?" Du Xu asked Wang Xintong.
"You're talking nonsense! You're the one who got bitten by a zombie!" the woman shouted angrily.
Du Xu frowned, turned his head and glared at the woman, shouting, "Shut up!"
The woman was terrified by Du Xu's expression and opened her mouth but dared not speak.
Wang Xintong then said, "I'm telling you, her man got bitten by a zombie! I saw it with my own eyes when I passed by her dorm room just now. How could it be fake? If her man turned into a zombie, wouldn't we be doomed!"
Upon hearing this, Du Xu turned to the woman and asked, "Is what she said true?"
"No!" the woman denied decisively.
Du Xu frowned and asked, "Where's your husband?"
The woman's eyes darted away, avoiding Du Xu's gaze.
"I'm asking you, where is your husband!" Du Xu shouted angrily.
"It's in the westernmost dormitory room," the woman stammered, seemingly afraid of Du Xu.
Without hesitation, Du Xu left the dormitory and walked towards the west side of the corridor. We followed behind Du Xu and arrived here together.
When I arrived at the westernmost dormitory room, the door was closed. I looked through the window and saw a middle-aged man lying on the bed, breathing heavily, as if he was in great pain.
Du Xu pushed the door open and went in, then stopped everyone outside, saying, "Don't come in, all of you."
I stood outside the door, staring at the middle-aged man on the bed. I saw the black veins on his neck. Clearly, the man had been bitten by a zombie and was beyond saving.
Du Xu was familiar with this symptom. After entering the room, he called out twice to the middle-aged man on the bed. The middle-aged man looked like he was in pain and seemed not to hear Du Xu's calls at all. Seeing this, Du Xu decisively left the room and closed the dormitory door.
Not long after, we saw the middle-aged man in the dormitory scream, then roll off the impact, his body contorting until he finally stopped breathing.
Not long after, the middle-aged man turned into a zombie, stood up again, and roared continuously.
As for the woman, she completely broke down after seeing her husband turn into a zombie.
