Chapter 365 Cry for Help

I don't care about Fei Lichao's insults. I'm actually happy to be alive now.

Even after finishing a cigarette, the torrential rain outside showed no signs of letting up.

I looked back, but I couldn't see anything except for the raging wind and rain.

I couldn't see exactly where Jingjie's car was behind us, nor could I clearly see the surrounding roads and guardrails. As for whether there were any zombies around, we had no idea.

I hope everything is alright.

Bang!

Just as I was making a fuss, a figure suddenly appeared outside the car door and crashed into it, startling me.

Fei Lichao, in the passenger seat, was also quite frightened; the cigarette he hadn't finished smoking almost fell from his fingers.

Upon closer inspection, we saw that it was a zombie outside, and we immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

The zombie was lying on the car door. Neither Fei Lichao nor I made a sound. After a short while, the zombie outside turned around and walked towards the back.

The heavy rain seemed to significantly impair the zombies' ability to distinguish objects. On a sunny day, a zombie that had latched onto a car door would definitely not have moved. However, the sound of the torrential rain rendered the zombie unable to discern its surroundings, which is why it didn't linger near the car for long.

Once the zombies were far away, I picked up the walkie-talkie and said, "Sister Jing, be careful. If any zombies come near the car, don't make a sound. They'll leave quickly."

"I understand," Lu Yun replied.

The heavy rain continued to fall, and no one knew how long it would stop.

There's been no movement from Jingjie and the others, so nothing unexpected has happened and everything is fine. But I still don't dare to let my guard down and am keeping a close eye on the situation outside, just in case something does happen.

Fei Lichao's situation isn't good right now, and I have to shoulder my responsibilities.

Since we've chosen to leave, we have to live well.

...

Half an hour later, the rain began to subside, and the surrounding environment gradually came into view. After the pattering sound of the downpour disappeared, the world became much quieter.

Fei Lichao had fallen asleep during those boring half hours and was now even snoring.

I glanced outside. There were no zombies around, and the downpour had turned into a light drizzle, falling sparsely from the sky. I estimated it would stop soon.

I opened the car door and stepped outside. The light rain fell on my face and felt a little cool.

When we arrived at the back of the pickup truck, we found that there were no protective measures in place before we set off. Everything was simply placed inside, and there was nothing to cover it from the rain.

So, the scene before me left me feeling a bit helpless.

The original bedding and blankets were all wet, as were some backpacks. Except for those items that were packaged and waterproof, everything else was soaked, which left me feeling helpless.

But there's no other way now, so this is the only option.

However, there is one thing that is very fortunate.

We had put all the food in the back seat and in Jingjie's car, so we didn't have to worry about food.

The only concern is its usability; however, it's summer now, so we can manage. If things get too bad, we can always find some alternatives.

The rain hasn't stopped yet, and I'm too lazy to tidy up the things in the back of the car.

Turning my head, I saw Sister Jing and the others about ten meters behind me. I waved to them, and Sister Jing started the car and drove over to me.

Jingjie got out of the car and, seeing that I looked unwell, asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"

I gave a wry smile and pointed to the back of the pickup truck.

Suddenly remembering something, Jing took a closer look and saw the situation in the back of the car. He immediately gave a wry smile, "How could I have forgotten about this?"

I shook my head and said, "I didn't pay attention at the time, and I didn't think much about it. Who knew it would turn out like this? But once these things dry, they should still be usable."

Lu Yun got out of the car and saw the situation in the back of the vehicle. She said, "If it can't be used, just throw it away. It's not important anyway. We can just find another one. Are those two tents okay?"

I rummaged through the trunk and found that both tents were well-packaged, and since the packaging was waterproof, they were fine.

"It's nothing," I said.

"It's alright, as long as there's a place to stay, that's fine," Lu Yun said without worry.

Sister Jing also said, "Yes, Xiaoyun is right. They are all things that can be replaced. We can find more when they are no longer needed."

I didn't mind and said, "Alright, it's still early. Let's keep going and find a place to rest for a day or two. I reckon this rain will probably continue for a few more days."

Sister Jing said, "Yes, probably."

After we finished speaking, we continued on our way.

The pickup truck's cargo bed was just a minor problem, and we hadn't paid attention to it before, which is why it's in this state now. It seems we need to be more careful in the future, at least put a rainproof tarpaulin over it so we don't have to worry about anything then.

I continued to lead the way. I didn't know where we were going either; we could only see as we went. If we could find a place to stay, we would stay for a day or two until the rain completely stopped.

After driving for about ten minutes, we arrived at a slightly remote village. The village looked quite large, but the residents were scattered around, and the surrounding fields were also quite large.

As for zombies, I looked around but didn't see any.

The rain hadn't stopped; it had turned from a light drizzle into a downpour.

I drove into this village whose name I didn't know, and arrived at the door of the first house. An old man who had died was sitting on a recliner under the eaves. The old man had turned into a zombie. When he saw us, he raised his head and roared.

But the old man couldn't stand up. He moved his hands and feet a few times and fell off the recliner.

The four of us got out of the car, and Sister Jing killed the zombie crawling on the ground with a single slash.

Looking at the three-story building in front of her, Lu Yun said, "I'll go in and take a look first."

We felt comfortable letting her go in; as long as there were no living people inside, she wouldn't be in any danger.

In just a few minutes, Lu Yun had inspected the entire three-story building, including the top floor. After coming down, she said, "It seems safe inside. We can stay here."

Since we can stay here, that's fine.

I said, "Jing, you and Fei Lichao tidy up inside, and Lu Yun and I will go and clear out the zombies around here."

"Okay, but could you help me unload the things from the car first?" Sister Jing said.

After that, the four of us got busy. We'll basically be staying here until the rain stops, and we don't know how long the rain will last.
