The body was curled up in a corner of the basement, badly decomposed; in short, it was disgusting.
Disgusting as it may be, what I'm curious about is why this corpse didn't turn into a zombie. Normally, people turn into zombies after they die, and that's something that can't be changed. So why didn't this corpse turn into a zombie?
I looked around the basement and found a huge machine there, but I didn't know what it was for.
The basement didn't look very big, and there was nothing else besides this large machine.
After confirming that there was no danger, I called out, "Come down, there's no danger down there."
"Really? But it smells so bad in there." Lu Yun's voice came from upstairs.
I said, "There's a decomposing body here, and I can't move it by myself. I need your help."

Then I tilted my head and shone the flashlight on the corpse's abdomen, where there was a clear tear in the clothing.
I frowned slightly, thinking, "Could this person have been murdered and their body dumped here?"
That's very possible! Otherwise, why would this corpse be sitting here all alone? It couldn't have been someone who crawled in and stabbed himself to death.
Judging from the white lab coat this guy is wearing, it's obvious he's a researcher here.
Just as I was examining the body, Lu Yun came down from up there.
I turned my head and saw her, chuckled and asked, "Didn't you think it smelled bad and didn't want to come in? Why did you come in?"
Lu Yun said, "I'm curious, but that's not allowed!"

As she went out to get the bed sheets, I saw Wen Guochao staring at the large machine in the basement.
I immediately asked, "So, did you figure anything out?"
Wen Guochao said, "I was always wondering why such a big research institute didn't even have a water purifier. Turns out it's here!"
I was taken aback. "You mean this big thing is a water purifier?"
Wen Guochao nodded and said, "Yes, this is a water purifier, that should be right."
I exclaimed in surprise, "Then we won't have to worry about water anymore?"
Wen Guochao shook his head, pushed up his glasses, and said, "I don't know."
I was surprised. "What do you mean you don't know? Isn't this a water purifier? Can't it be used?"
Wen Guochao said, "It can definitely be used, but this thing requires a lot of electricity to operate. Judging from the amount of electricity generated by our current solar panels, it probably won't be enough. And most importantly, the filter inside this thing needs to be cleaned and replaced, which I don't know how to do!"
I understood what he meant and said, "So this thing is just for show for us?"
Wen Guochao said, "Pretty much, basically unusable."

Although Wen Guochao was very reluctant, he still came over to help. The two of us lifted the body off the ground and placed it on the bed sheet, then wrapped it in the sheet and carried the body directly upstairs. To be honest, it was quite heavy.
If Wen Guochao hadn't been supporting me from below, I probably wouldn't have been able to lift the body up.
After we brought the body upstairs, the stench spread. Instead of throwing the body out of the research institute, I took it to the laboratory on the second floor.

Lu Yun wanted to say something, but I didn't give her a chance. I carried the body upstairs, with Wen Guochao following behind to help.

I couldn't be bothered with it. I went to the laboratory on the second floor, entered a sealed laboratory, and placed the body on the lab table.
Because the body had been dead for a long time, it was in a state of severe decomposition. Although the basement was dry, it was still unable to stop the body from rotting.
I glanced at Wen Guochao, whose face had turned pale, and said, "If you're feeling unwell, you should leave first. I can handle things here by myself."
Wen Guochao nodded without hesitation and turned to leave. Then, I heard him retching outside.
I raised an eyebrow. Wen Guochao's reaction was normal. After all, it was his first time being so close to a corpse, and with the constant stench, it was normal for him to vomit.
I then donned full protective gear and began examining the body.
However, before examining the body, I had to remove his clothes. I could only use scissors to cut the clothes off the body; the white coat on the outside was easy to remove.
Moreover, after taking off the white coat, I saw a name tag about the size of a finger hanging on the chest of the white coat, with a name on it.
I wiped away the dried, blackened bloodstains and made sure I could see the name on the nameplate.
