I quickly determined the cause of Lin Zijie's death: excessive blood loss due to a ruptured abdomen. However, it's puzzling why he died in the basement and why his body didn't turn into a zombie.
Although I really wanted to test whether he had the zombie virus, I didn't know much about it and didn't know how to do it.
So after much thought, I decided to put it aside for now.
"Well, let's go check the files in the archives first. The experiments mentioned in the recording are probably all recorded in the files. Hopefully, we can find some clues."
I left the closed laboratory, and Lin Zijie's body was left inside; no one would come over.
I originally wanted to go to the laboratory on the first floor, but when I got downstairs, I found that it was already dark outside.
"Is it that late?"
I checked my watch and realized it was already nine o'clock in the evening.
"Gurgle." My stomach growled twice.
"Forget it, we can deal with the files tomorrow. Let's go find something to eat first; I didn't eat enough for dinner."
I went up to the third floor. There was a lot of food in the kitchen. I just grabbed a little something and sat down at the table to eat.
Just as I was having my late-night snack, Lu Yun came out of her room and asked, "Are you done playing with the corpses?"
"..." This girl is really something, what does she mean by playing with corpses! Seriously.
I ignored her question and instead asked, "Where are Wen Guochao and the others?"
Lu Yun said, "Wen Guochao couldn't eat earlier and felt nauseous, so he took his wife and daughter out for a walk."
"Taking a stroll? Outside the research institute?" I asked.
Lu Yun nodded and said, "Yeah, they're just taking a stroll around the neighborhood. You don't need to worry about anything. They're not stupid. They'll definitely come back if there's any danger. Besides, they have guns, so what's there to be afraid of?"
Hearing this, I breathed a sigh of relief. I figured there wouldn't be any danger. There weren't many zombies or people around the research institute, so it was a nice place to take a stroll.
Remembering Wen Guochao's retching after moving the body, I guess he hasn't been able to eat for the past two days.
Lu Yun said, "Why haven't my sister and Fei Lichao come back yet? Do you think they might have eloped?"
I gave a wry smile: "Do you think that's possible?"
Lu Yun said, "What's impossible about it? They're deeply in love, it's perfectly normal for them to elope."
I shook my head, not wanting to say anything more. This girl's thoughts were too jumpy; I couldn't keep up.
Seeing that I didn't speak, Lu Yun asked again, "Hey, Lu Xiaonan, what are we going to do now? Everyone's dead, and no handsome guys have appeared in my life. Am I destined to be single forever?"
I looked at her, unsure of what to say.
Lu Yun stared at me, then frowned and said, "Lu Xiaonan! Don't worry, even if I'm alone for the rest of my life, I'll never consider you. Because you're not good-looking!"
"..." What should I do if I want to kill someone?
After finishing my meal, I tidied up the table and then headed to the laboratory on the third floor.
Lu Yun said from behind, "I came in and checked earlier, Fang Yuan is still not awake."
Once inside the lab, Fang Yuan lay on the operating table in the operating room, still unconscious.
I went in to check on him, and his condition is stable. If nothing unexpected happens, he will wake up in a while, but I don't know when.
Lu Yun asked me from the side, "When will he wake up?"
I shook my head and said, "I don't know, maybe I'll wake up in the middle of the night."
Lu Yun said, "It's the middle of the night! What are we going to do? We'll all be asleep then, who's going to care about him?"
I said, "I'll keep watch tonight. That way, I can keep an eye on him and make sure nothing happens when he wakes up."
Lu Yun asked, "Keep watch all night? Is that alright?"
I said, "There's no problem."
...
Around 11 p.m., Lu Yun and Wen Guochao's family of three went to bed. As for Sister Jing and Fei Lichao, they were still out and hadn't returned yet, and they probably wouldn't be back until tomorrow morning.
Around midnight, Fang Yuan still hadn't woken up.
I was bored, so I went downstairs to the archives and got some files, then sat in the operating room and looked at these boring files.
The information recorded in the file was incomplete; much of it hadn't been deleted due to its confidentiality, so I was completely confused and had no idea what the file contained.
Finally, as I read on, I discovered that the file recorded an experiment from two years ago, which ended in failure. As for the secrets contained within, I had no idea.
I put down this file and looked at the other files I had brought up, only to find that they were all from two years ago. I felt a little helpless. I hadn't paid attention when I went to get the files, so I just grabbed some randomly.
I took the files back to the first floor, looked at last year's file drawer, opened it, and took out all the files inside.
Back on the third floor, before I could even look, Fang Yuan woke up.
He woke up at one in the morning, which wasn't too late.
"Ah!" He screamed in pain when he woke up because of the wounds on his body.
I said to him, "Don't move, don't move. Your injury hasn't healed yet. If you move around and reopen the wound, it will be troublesome, and I'll have to treat it all over again."
Fang Yuan heard my voice, so he slowed down, panting heavily, and opened his bloodshot eyes to see me.
He opened his mouth as if to speak, his eyes filled with fear.
I said, "Don't worry, we are safe here now. We have already shaken off those who were chasing you. You are safe now and don't need to worry about anything."
Fang Yuan breathed a sigh of relief, the fear in his eyes lessening. After closing his eyes again, he said, "Thank you."
I said, "You need to be careful now. Since you're awake, everything's alright. Go back to sleep for a while. You'll feel better when you wake up."
Fang Yuan didn't speak again. As his breathing gradually became steady, I knew he had fallen asleep.
Seeing that he was alright, I breathed a sigh of relief. Instead of going back to sleep, I stayed here to keep watch in case he woke up again.

Recorder Diary 8:
"Today is the 10th. Lin Zijie, who came from the same company as me, was selected to participate in the first experiment. As for the rest of us, we were outside recording the experimental process. To be honest, this is the first time I've ever watched an experiment. In the previous few days, they didn't give us any chance to watch the experiments. They just let us familiarize ourselves with the experimental procedures, plans, and other very boring things... Anyway, Lin Zijie's experiment went very smoothly without any mistakes. Then they said that someone else would be doing the experiment tomorrow."
