I did not lie to Zhou Zhengnan. I do not know anything about Zhou Zhengnan's daughter.
Just like when I was in the air-raid shelter, I didn't know anything about Beibei's situation.
The two children's situations were very similar; neither had been in contact with the monster, and they had no wounds, yet both contracted the Ehrlich virus. This is what I don't understand. Could it be because children are naturally weaker? Their immune systems aren't as strong as adults', so they get infected?
I shook my head; I really couldn't think of anything.
And so, I ended up staying in that kindergarten for no apparent reason.
This place is not far from the air-raid shelter, only about 700 or 800 meters away, but the people here seem to be unaware of what is happening on the other side of the air-raid shelter.
But thinking about it, it makes sense. The people here have finally established themselves in kindergarten and escaped the dangers outside, so why would they be foolish enough to go to great lengths to find an air-raid shelter?
By evening, one of the backpacks I had brought was completely empty.
These guys showed no mercy and took all the food from my backpack. But I don't blame them. They looked like they had been starving for a long time, and if they didn't eat something soon, they probably wouldn't have made it.
Before long, it got dark.
I stood in the kindergarten yard, sitting on a swing, watching the setting sun sink into the earth in the west.
Just then, a hopping sound came from behind.
Looking back, I saw Zhang Zhihao hop on one foot to this swing and sit on another swing next to him.
He chuckled at me, looking rather silly.
I stared at him, puzzled, wondering why he was laughing.
Seeing my expression, Zhang Zhihao said, "I didn't mean anything by it, I just think you're a good person."
I raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.
Zhang Zhihao scratched his head, looking embarrassed, and said, "I'm sorry about taking your things before. I didn't mean to. I thought the car was empty, so I took it. I didn't expect..."
I waved my hand and said, "Never mind, I didn't take it to heart."
"Thank you." Zhang Zhihao chuckled. "Oh, right, and thank you for giving us food. To be honest, we had already eaten everything we could yesterday. Today I sneaked out to look for food, but I couldn't find anything, so I really want to thank you."
"Mm." I smiled and nodded, not refusing.
After saying that, Zhang Zhihao sighed, "But this food is only for tonight's meal. I don't know what to do tomorrow. I guess my brother-in-law will take some people out to find something to eat tomorrow morning."
Brother-in-law? I was taken aback and looked behind me. I saw Li Qiming holding a wallet and looking at something. A little boy, about four or five years old, was sleeping on his lap.
Zhang Zhihao glanced behind him and said, "That's my brother-in-law. I think you already know him. He's looking at a family photo of him and my sister, but my sister... died when the zombie outbreak just happened."
"Sorry," I said casually.
Zhang Zhihao shook his head, "It's okay, I understand. The world is just like in those TV shows and movies, full of zombies. If only I had superpowers, I could kill all those zombies outside without lifting a finger!"
I shook my head with a wry smile; this kid seemed a bit immature.
"Oh, by the way, don't take my brother-in-law's threats to heart. Actually, my brother-in-law is a very good person. If it weren't for him, we probably wouldn't be alive today," Zhang Zhihao said earnestly.
“Really?” I asked.
"yes."
I chatted with Zhang Zhihao for a long time, and from him I learned that the people in this kindergarten were from three families.
Zhang Zhihao, Li Qiming and his son Li Dong, Zhou Zhengnan and his family of three, plus Zhong Jianzhou, who has always been taciturn in kindergarten, and his two children.
Hearing the name Zhong Jianzhou reminds me of Zhang Jianzhou, who killed Zhou Yang.
The sky had been dark for a long time, and countless stars peeked out from behind the clouds. It was hard to imagine that so many stars could be seen in the city.
It seems the world has really changed.
"Dr. Lu, go to sleep, it's getting late." Zhang Zhihao laughed and skipped back.
I went over to him, helped him up, and led him back into the house to lie down.
Li Qiming gave me a blanket and said, "Make do for one night."
"Thanks." I took the blanket and found a corner to lie down.
I took my phone out of my pocket, pressed the power button, and after turning it on, I found that the battery was only 10% full. I was quite annoyed.
I don't want to turn it off anymore. I'll just let the battery run out eventually, since it'll run out of power sooner or later anyway.
With 10% battery remaining, it automatically shut down around 8:30 PM.
During this time, I kept looking at the photos.
...
"ah!"
The next morning, I was awakened by a scream.
"What's wrong? What's wrong?" I asked, bewildered, looking around.
Li Qiming woke up from the floor holding his son, looked at me with a panicked expression, and said, "Office!"
Zhou Zhengnan and his family sleep in the office at night, and the scream just now came from the office.
We got up from the ground and ran towards the office.
As soon as we pushed open the door, we saw what was inside.
The little girl, Zhou Luya, had her mouth open at that moment, and the roar coming from her throat was chilling.
As expected, it turned into a monster!
A moment later, everyone who had been sleeping in the classroom rushed to the door, and the sound of footsteps attracted the little girl who had turned into a monster.
