(Third update is here. This is the final chapter of episode two. Episode three will begin tomorrow.)
Hearing their words, I looked at the two people in front of me in surprise and asked, "Are you also here to find someone?"
The man in camouflage wasn't fooled. He said, "Let's not talk about us yet. I don't trust you two right now. So, tell me all your information and identities, or I'll have to kill you both."
I've experienced this kind of intimidation before. When Fei Lichao first found me at the hospital, he threatened me in the same way, so I'm not really afraid.
But Li Qiming was different. He was just a small business owner and had never experienced anything like this before. He nodded and said, "Okay, okay, we'll talk about it."
Next, Li Qiming told the two people in front of him everything. Among them, he also concealed some things, such as my background.
After hearing this, the man in camouflage turned to his companion and asked, "Is there really a kindergarten on Sanhua Road?"
His companion appeared to be a policeman; his uniform, though stained with blood and torn, was still recognizable.
The police officer said, "Yes, there is one, and it's the same as what he said."
The man in camouflage continued, "What about yesterday? What happened?"
As Li Qiming gradually calmed down, he recounted everything that had happened the day before.
After listening, the police asked, "So you two had no idea where your companion was taken?"
Li Qiming nodded: "Yeah, we didn't know, that's why we came here to look for clues. We didn't even start before we saw you guys."
The man in camouflage and the policeman exchanged a glance, discussed something with the man a few steps behind them, and said, "If what you're saying is true, then you don't need to look anymore."
"Why?" I asked, frowning.
The man in camouflage said, "Because I know where your comrades were taken."
Li Qiming's eyes widened, and he jumped up from his chair in surprise, exclaiming, "You know! Then, tell me quickly, where was Old Zhong taken?!"
Originally, Li Qiming and I didn't have much hope of finding Zhong Jianzhou, but now it seems there really is hope.
But a question arose in my mind: how did these two know? Could it be that they also had friends who were taken away? Or were they originally among those people?
The man in camouflage said, "Telling you won't help; nobody can get into that place."
"Why can't I get in?" Li Qiming asked.
The man in camouflage didn't bother to answer him and said, "You two said you had companions in the kindergarten. Now I can give you two choices. First, all of you leave the kindergarten and come with me to a safer place. We'll discuss your friend's kidnapping then."
"And the second one?" I asked.
"The second one is you. You said you're a doctor, and that a friend of mine is injured and needs treatment. If you don't want to leave the kindergarten, then you can come back with me."
The person in camouflage was very decisive, leaving no room for negotiation.
I asked doubtfully, "But we don't even know who you are, so why should we believe what you say? What if you're lying to us?"
The man in camouflage stared at me and said, "My name is Gao Feng, and this is Chen Shen. Our team is currently in the Linshan Scenic Area. There are very few people there, so it's very safe. Moreover, our purpose in coming out is the same as yours—to find someone."
The police officer calmly said, "I have a younger brother named Shen Lei, who is also a soldier. However, he was arrested by two soldiers two days ago. Our purpose in coming out this time is the same as yours."
Shen Lei, a soldier! Holy crap, what a coincidence!
Memories flooded back instantly: back in the air-raid shelter, there was a soldier also named Shen Lei!
Moreover, Fei Lichao told me that Shen Lei and Xiao Li are a couple, and both of them are gay.
When Xiao Li died, Shen Lei was the most heartbroken one; he even kicked me! (For details about Shen Lei, see Chapter 25.)
I stared at Gao Feng, who was wearing camouflage, and swallowed hard. Gao Feng's camouflage uniform looked similar to Fei Lichao's, which meant that the two of them came from the same unit.
I really want to ask him if he knows Fei Lichao, but after thinking it over rationally, I didn't say anything.
Even if the Shen Lei they mentioned is the same person I know, I can't just blindly trust them.
But what if they are really Fei Lichao's people?
For a moment, I was in a bit of a dilemma.
Gao Feng said, "Actually, there's no harm in you coming back with us, only benefits. We have people and weapons, and we can help you find people. You're a doctor, and you can help us with treatment. It's a win-win situation, so what's wrong with it?"
I said, "Can we discuss this?"
Gao Feng nodded: "Okay, I'll give you five minutes."
The two of them moved some distance apart.
I looked at Li Qiming and said, "What do you think?"
Li Qiming wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said, "What else can I think? I don't even know if what they're saying is true or false. Are we really going to go with them?"
I said, "What they say might be true."
Li Qiming looked at me, puzzled: "How did you know?"
I said, "The Shen Lei they were talking about should be the same Shen Lei I met in the air-raid shelter. Besides, I don't think they're lying. I think they can be trusted; it's up to you."
After all, everyone in the kindergarten listens to Li Qiming.
