Chapter 588 Heavy Snow

Chapter 589 Heavy Snow

The advantage of taking side roads is that there won't be many cars blocking the way, but the disadvantage is that it's easy to get lost.

We don't have a map right now, so we can't figure out where we are. I basically have no idea where to go. I'm completely lost and don't know which way to go.

Hu Fei asked, "Don't you have any other options?"

I said, "No."

Hu Fei rolled his eyes. "Don't tell me there's no way to get there now?"

I said, "Let's wander around and see if we can find a way out. Maybe we'll find a place if we keep wandering around."

Hu Fei had no objection to this, after all, we had no other choice but to wander around and see if we could find a way to Hangzhou.

If you really can't find it, you'll have to go back the way you came and start over. But all roads lead to Rome. Even though it's the end of the world, the roads haven't changed. As long as you find the way and know the direction, you generally won't go wrong.

I took Hu Fei and we started wandering around the area. After wandering around for more than two hours, we finally arrived at the provincial highway, confirmed the direction of Hangzhou, and then slowly made our way there.

Seeing that we were on the right track, Hu Fei finally breathed a sigh of relief and said, "If I had known it would be this troublesome, I wouldn't have come out with you. It would have been more comfortable to stay at home."

I said, "Should I put you down now and then you walk back?"

Hu Fei smiled and said, "If you dare to stop the car and drop me off, let's see who drives away then."

I chuckled and didn't continue chatting with him. I should focus on driving now, lest I drive in the wrong lane again. It was already quite late. I checked the time and found that it was already six o'clock in the afternoon, almost evening.

I said, "It's getting late. Why don't we find a place to rest for the night and set off again tomorrow?"

Hu Fei said, "Whatever your opinion, you're the one driving. If you feel tired, just take a rest."

"Let's find a place to rest then." I was exhausted after driving all day.

We are now on a provincial highway. There are quite a few houses on both sides of the road. After observing the surroundings and confirming that there were no living people around, we found an empty house, parked the car, and went inside to rest.

I found a deck chair inside and lay down to rest. Hu Fei stood at the door, wary of his surroundings.

I said, "There shouldn't be anyone around here, don't be so nervous."

Hu Fei said, "I'm not nervous, I just think it's better to stay vigilant. Don't think that just because there's no one in this place, we're not human either. Since we were able to come here to rest, others must have thought of it too. So, you should just go to sleep. I'll go outside and keep watch, and also get some dinner for the two of us."

I didn't object to Hu Fei's actions. I leaned back in the recliner, closed my eyes, and went to sleep. As for what was happening outside, it had nothing to do with me anymore.

Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep.

After driving all day, I was indeed exhausted, but there was nothing I could do; Hu Fei didn't know the way.

Actually, I don't know the way either; I can only rely on my memories from a long time ago to slowly recall it.

However, we are currently on the provincial highway, and we should be able to reach Hangzhou by tomorrow.

I woke up because I was hungry.

Hu Fei cooked instant noodles on the side, and the aroma made my empty stomach churn, so I instinctively opened my eyes.

"You're awake! Perfect timing, come and have some noodles," Hu Fei said with a smile.

I stretched, yawned, sat down opposite Hu Fei, and smelled the aroma wafting from the instant noodles—it was almost insane.

Hu Fei said, "Although this instant noodle doesn't have much nutrition and contains preservatives, it has many advantages. At least it has a long shelf life, and we can still eat it now."

I said, "Actually, many military rations have a long shelf life, as do canned and vacuum-packed foods, but they are hard to find now."

Hu Fei stirred the cooked instant noodles with his chopsticks and said, "You think you know everything? Come on, don't hesitate, start eating."

It was pitch black outside, and inside the house, only this one fire was burning. The light wasn't bright, but it was very warm.

After all, it's winter now, so being able to eat hot noodles and drink hot soup, and having a fire to keep warm, is a blessing.

Hu Fei said, "By the way, I previously strung up a line around the house and set up some bells, so if anyone appears nearby later, we'll be able to hear them."

I looked at him in surprise, "Where did you find this?"

Hu Fei laughed and said, "It was by chance, I found it upstairs. You'll be on watch for the night?"

I just took a nap and I'm not sleepy anymore, so I have no objection to what he said.

After finishing my noodles, I rubbed my hands together and went outside. I ran straight to the roof of the car and looked around with night vision binoculars, but there was nothing there.

Around noon, it started to snow lightly.

A gentle breeze came, and the snowflakes, which were originally quite picturesque, started hitting my face, which annoyed me.

With no other option, I had to retreat back into the house and warm myself by the fire.

We originally wanted to find a closed room so that the cold wind outside wouldn't blow in, but after thinking about it carefully, we realized that was too dangerous. It would be better to be in an open area, even if it's cold, at least we could react quickly if something happened.

I don't know when it started, but the cold wind outside began to blow inside.

In short, it was really cold.

I'm suddenly starting to miss summer. It's hot, but at least you can handle it. You can take off your clothes and sweat, and it's fine. But now it's the middle of winter, damp and cold. No matter how many clothes you wear, it's no use; the cold still seeps into your bones.

...

The next day.

Hu Fei didn't wake me up at nine o'clock in the morning, so I woke up on my own.

When I woke up, I went outside and saw nothing but white.

I don't know how much snow fell last night, but anyway, the outside of the house and the cars were covered in snow.

I measured it, and the snow was about ankle-deep, which meant that almost half of a tire was gone.

Hu Fei asked me, "Do you think it's safe to walk in this snow?"

I said, "Let's go. If we don't go, what if it snows even more later? Wouldn't that be even more troublesome? Let's leave early before the snow gets too thick so we can get there sooner and avoid suffering so much. It wouldn't be good if we got stuck on the road later."

I decided to leave quickly, and Hu Fei had no objections. After getting in the car, we left without hesitation.

Driving in the snow was tricky, especially since we were driving a sedan. I wasn't driving fast because I was afraid of slipping.

Fortunately, the snow on the road was not as thick as before, and no accidents occurred along the way.
