Chapter 608 Digging the Wall
Seeing their gazes fall on me again, I raised an eyebrow and said, "Since you think killing zombies is dangerous, then figure out a way to get out of here."
Someone frowned and asked, "Isn't that obvious? Who doesn't want to leave here? But there are zombies outside both the front and back doors. How are we supposed to get out?"
I pointed to the wall next to me and said, "Dig the wall."
When they heard what I said, their eyes widened in disbelief, as if they had heard something strange. But you can't blame them; it's understandable. They've never dug through a wall before, so naturally they find it unrealistic. But when Zhang Jianzhou locked me in a room, I escaped by digging through a wall.
I said, "Right now, there are zombies outside the front and back doors of the warehouse. If you don't want to kill zombies to leave, this is the only way. Otherwise, you can either wait here quietly. Zombies rely on sound to locate us, so as long as we wait here quietly, the zombies outside will naturally quiet down once they can no longer hear the sounds from inside the warehouse."
"But if we do that, although the zombies outside will quiet down, they won't leave the supermarket, do you understand?"
I could tell from their expressions that they understood the principle, but they just didn't want to accept the reality.
But that's understandable. After surviving in this post-apocalyptic world for a year, they're still afraid of zombies. They're really useless.
I think this is also related to Liu Tian's arrogance.
I said, "I think you saw it when we entered the supermarket earlier. There's an alleyway outside this wall. As long as we can find a way to break through the wall, we'll be able to get out."
At this point, Lao Guang asked, "But what if there are zombies all over the outside of the wall after we break through it?"
I smiled and said, "That requires attraction."
Old Guang, puzzled, asked, "What do you mean?"
I said, "It's very simple. As long as we make some noise at the two entrances of the warehouse while we're digging into the wall, the zombies will naturally be attracted by the noise. Then when we dig into the wall, we can make less noise and we can break through the wall, right? Although this will take some time, do you have any better ideas?"
The group looked at each other, clearly there was no better way.
Seeing their still slightly hesitant expressions, I said, "I've said it before, if you want to live, listen to me. If you want to wait to die, then I'll stay here and wait to die with you. The choice is yours."
After I finished speaking, I took a bottle of beverage from the basket that Lao Guang was carrying, unscrewed the cap, took a sip, and waited for their reply.
Old Guang was the first to speak, "I want to live. Tell me what to do, and I'll fully cooperate with you."
With one person taking the lead, the others became easier to talk to. So the second person willing to help stepped forward and said, "I also want to live. I'll listen to you."
"Me too."
Then, almost everyone stood up, except for Liu Tian.
Liu Tian stared at me and said, "You're courting death."
I said, "Whether it's courting death or not, staying here is a dead end anyway, so we might as well try to fight it out."
After saying that, I drew the machete from my waist and said, "Two of you come out, one guarding the back door and the other guarding the front. Keep banging on the door with your machete to attract the zombies. As long as they keep making noise at the door, the zombies outside will be attracted by them. As for the rest of you, come and dig through the wall with me."
"But the wall is so thick, how are we going to dig it?" someone asked.
I said, "Use a knife to remove the outer layer of plaster first. Once you can see the bricks inside, everything will be easy."
Afterwards, everyone gathered together and started digging at the wall. I started using a knife to scrape off the paint directly from the wall, layer by layer of white powder was scraped off by me, and they all did the same. Everyone started working with great enthusiasm.
Liu Tian was the only one standing to the side, doing nothing. No one knew what he was thinking. Did he think he was the boss?
In the current situation, survival is the most important thing. If he can't lower himself, he'll only face death.
In no time, the seven people worked together and quickly wiped the paint off the wall, revealing bricks that were more than a meter tall.
"What do we do now?" someone asked.
I said, "What else can we do but smash it!"
Upon hearing this, everyone took turns smashing and looting.
We only had knives, but some people had hammers, so it was much easier to smash them. In no time, a brick was smashed.
Everyone instantly saw a glimmer of hope, and they began to smash the wall even more enthusiastically.
The two people at the door who were attracting zombies were also delighted to hear the commotion we were making, and they kept banging on the door to attract the zombies outside.
With the first brick pried off, the rest became much easier.
The bricks are connected by cement. Once you loosen the cement, there shouldn't be any problems.
Everyone was full of energy; in order to survive, everyone was willing to help.
In about five minutes, the inner wall had been pried into pieces.
I grabbed the hammer and smashed it hard against the wall, breaking through it!
Light streamed in from the alleyway outside, illuminating the somewhat dim warehouse.
"It's working! It's working!" Old Guang exclaimed excitedly.
Everyone was a little excited.
I quickly said, "Everyone, don't get excited yet. Keep going, smash through this whole area so we can all get out."
I looked out of the hole into the alleyway, but there was no sign of any zombies passing by.
This was a good sign. Everyone continued smashing and looting, and before long, the opening began to expand, making it possible for people to crawl out.
I stuck my head out to look and said, "There are no zombies outside, let's continue."
Before long, everyone had smashed a hole that was more than half a person's height. I said, "That's enough, as long as we can get out. I'll go out and check the situation first. If everything's alright, you can come out with me."
After I finished speaking, I decisively crawled out of the hole. There were no zombies in the alley, so I turned around and said, "Hurry up and come out, keep your voice down."
Then everyone else followed suit and crawled out.
Liu Tian was of no help whatsoever in this matter. He was indeed the third person to emerge. After he came out, he glared at me, looked at everyone who had come out, and said, "Now that we have the resources, come with me and let's go back."
After he finished speaking, he turned to leave, but no one followed him.
He turned around and asked, "What are you doing? Get out of here!"
