Chapter 672 Snow

Chapter 673 Snow

The journey was much smoother than expected. We didn't take the highway, since it's hard to get off once you're on it. We could only go back along the original route.

A cold wind howled outside the car, and suddenly it started to snow lightly.

This reminds me of when the two of us came to Hangzhou before. It was snowing then, and it was very cold.

Before we knew it, it was noon. Looking at the heavy snow falling outside the car, we decided to find a place to rest. The snow seemed to be getting heavier, which wasn't good for us. If the snow covered the roads, it would be difficult for us to get back. Besides, traveling in the snow was too dangerous.

We found a safe place to rest and planned to set off again when the snow subsided.

I ate a quick lunch, just enough to fill my stomach, nothing fancy.

Hu Fei tightened his clothes and said, "It's excessively cold today."

We huddled inside the house. I looked out the window at the heavy snow, and the howling wind blew into the house through the cracks in the window. "Yeah, it's been a long time since it's snowed like this."

Hu Fei said, "This is really annoying."

I had nothing to say. The window couldn't be closed properly because it had been open for a long time, and there was always a crack. The howling wind made Hu Fei a little uncomfortable, so he went straight to the inner room. We didn't have many clothes on us to begin with, and when he entered the room, he rummaged through the drawers and found quite a few clothes.

Even after we wrapped ourselves in them, we still felt cold.

This kind of cold really chills you to the bone; wearing more clothes is useless and can only provide psychological comfort.

It snowed for an unknown amount of time at the university, and around 2 PM, the snow outside showed no signs of stopping.

The roads have gradually been submerged by the university.

Hu Fei said worriedly, "We can't even see the road. How are we going to get around?"

I said, "What other way is there? Just go back the way we came. As for whether we can make it, we'll see. If we really can't drive, we'll think of another way."

Hu Fei raised an eyebrow but said nothing more.

Time passed second by second, and the heavy snow continued to fall.

I stood at the window, watching the zombies blown down by the strong wind in the snow, feeling nothing in particular. People have pretty much adapted to the modern world; zombies are no longer scary to them.

Around 7:30 p.m., the heavy snow finally stopped, and the snow outside wasn't very thick.

Hu Fei asked me, "It's getting dark, should we continue on our way?"

I said, "Let's rest for the night and continue our journey tomorrow morning."

"Okay, I'll do as you say."

Traveling at night is too dangerous, and there's still snow on the ground, so being delayed by a day won't matter.

Dinner was easy to solve; we had some food in the car.

However, I've run out of cigarettes, which is a bit of a dilemma for me. I've been smoking quite heavily lately, and now that I'm out of cigarettes, I'm not used to it.

The next morning, Hu Fei and I woke up together.

We didn't keep watch that night. We were in the middle of nowhere, and there was no one around. It was unlikely that anyone would risk freezing to death in the heavy snow to come here.

When we got up and looked around, we didn't know if it had snowed while we were asleep last night, but the snow outside seemed to be much thicker, and we could see that the car was completely buried in the snow.

Looking at the situation before him, Hu Fei said with a hint of melancholy, "This snow is a bit too much. Can we still walk?"

I shook my head and said, "I don't know, let's go down and take a look first."

When we got downstairs, a cold draft came in from outside the door, making us both shiver.

When I opened the door, the snow was already ankle-deep, which was better than I had imagined. I had initially thought the snow would be so deep that it would bury my knees.

We went to the car, wiped the snow off the handlebars, and our hands immediately started to ache from the cold. We opened the car door, and Hu Fei and I got inside.

There was still a slight breeze outside, and I could feel the pain on my face as it brushed against it. Once the car door closed, we both felt much more at ease.

Before getting in the car, Hu Fei swept the snow off the windshield. I inserted the key into the ignition and started the car. Unsurprisingly, it started. I had thought that after being frozen overnight, the car might not start; it was really lucky that it did.

"It moved, let's see if it can move," Hu Fei said.

Starting the engine is secondary; the key is getting out of here. The car's tires are now completely submerged in snow, making it unlikely that leaving will be easy.

I carefully pressed the accelerator, and the car began to move forward very slowly. I increased the accelerator a little, and the tires started to slip, so I quickly let go.

Hu Fei said, "You, you should take it slow. Don't accelerate. If the snow turns into ice, we really won't be able to walk."

"Okay, I'll take my time."

I gently pressed the accelerator, the engine hummed slightly, and the car began to move forward slowly. This time, I didn't dare to accelerate further and continued to maintain this speed. After a while, we slowly left the area. Then, once we were on the road, I began to slowly accelerate. Although the speed was slow, at least we were moving forward.

I didn't dare to accelerate too fast, so I could only go little by little. Then, the speed reached 40 miles per hour, 50 miles per hour, and then 60 miles per hour.

I didn't dare add any more after that, because I was afraid it would slip.

Hu Fei asked, "At this rate, when will we reach Jiajiang?"

I shook my head and said, "I don't know. In this weather, it's already good enough that we can walk. The snow here isn't too bad. If the snow ahead is worse than here, it will be impossible for us to drive back to Jiajiang."

Hu Fei said, "I think we should go back to Hangzhou first. Anyway, nothing bad is going to happen in Hangzhou right now. We can go to Jiajiang after the weather gets better."

I gave a wry smile and said, "We've already covered a third of the distance. Do you think it's worth it to go back? Besides, we don't even know if it's snowing in Hangzhou. What if it's snowing even more heavily there than here?"

Hu Fei was speechless. "Alright, let's keep going."

We didn't talk much along the way. As we drove further, the snow on the windshield accumulated, so I had to turn on the wipers to clear it.

The world before my eyes was covered in silver, as if draped in a white veil.

In the past, I would have been happy to see such heavy snow, but not now. This heavy snow has hindered my trip and may even cost us our lives. I don't like this kind of weather.

The zombies outside are almost frozen solid!
