(It's past midnight, please recommend!)
In the evening, after dinner, Wu Shuang's body couldn't take it anymore, so I carried her back into the house and let her rest.
I wanted to leave, but she grabbed me and said, "Wait a while before you go, after I fall asleep."
I looked into her eyes and nodded, "Mm."
I went to the bed and snuggled up to her.
"Where's my phone? I want to see the photos," Wu Shuang said.
I took my phone out of my pocket and handed it to her. It still had 20% battery left. I had been charging it all afternoon and it was only 20% full, but that was enough for now.
She leaned against me, opened the photo, and looked at the picture of us together.
The photos above are all of the two of us. She looks very happy in the photos.
“Pu Weichao’s shots are quite good,” she said.
“It’s pretty good,” I said.
Wu Shuang stared silently at the photo without saying a word. I thought she had fallen asleep, but her hand was still swiping through the photos, repeatedly looking at the picture of the two of us together.
I don't know how long it lasted, but then I heard sobbing coming from her mouth.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
Wu Shuang suddenly put down her phone, grabbed my clothes, and leaned against my chest, crying incessantly.
I knew why she was crying, so I didn't say anything, but hugged her tightly and rubbed my cheek against her head.
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I lifted my head to stop them from falling.
She didn't know how long she cried. When she was tired from crying, her sobs gradually stopped, her breathing became steady, and with tear stains at the corners of her eyes, she fell asleep.
I stroked her cheek and didn't leave immediately. Instead, I held her and waited for more than half an hour until she was completely asleep before leaving her room.
I didn't go back to my room. Instead, I walked into the corridor in the dark, looked at the moonlight, and wiped away the tears in my eyes.
I know she won't last much longer.
Footsteps came from behind. I turned around and saw Pu Weichao, who was carrying a candle as he walked into the corridor.
"How is Wu Shuang?" he asked.
I shook my head and said, "It won't last much longer, probably in the next day or two."
Pu Weichao asked, "So what do you plan to do?"
I shook my head: "I don't know."
What else can I do but face it? Once Wu Shuang dies, I'll only be able to face her corpse. If she turns into a monster, I'll have no choice but to kill her.
Pu Weichao placed his hand on my shoulder. "I can't help you with this. I don't want to say anything polite. In short, don't overthink it."
I looked up at the moonlight and said, "I understand."
Pu Weichao said, "If you need anything, just ask me for help."
Yes, I will.
After Pu Weichao finished speaking, he didn't linger there. He turned around, took the candle, and went back to his room. I think he understood that I wanted to be alone most of all right now.
However, after Pu Weichao left, someone came out from the shadows and came to my side.
I turned my head and was surprised to see Lu Jing.
Although it was dark, I could still see the tear tracks on Lu Jing's face. She must have been crying quietly in the corridor before I arrived.
“I heard everything you just said,” Lu Jing said first.
I was taken aback for a moment, then said, "It's okay."
"Is she your girlfriend?" Lu Jing asked.
I shook my head and said, "No."
Lu Jing looked puzzled.
I explained, "Actually, I don't know either. We're friends, but neither of us has ever said anything. I've never told her I like her, and she's never said she likes me."
"Then why..."
"Why am I so concerned about her?" I blurted out.
"Hmm." Lu Jing nodded, looking at me with a puzzled expression.
I shook my head and said, "I don't know. Maybe I've really fallen for her, or maybe I feel guilty towards her. I really can't say for sure."
Lu Jing didn't ask anything more and said, "Actually, I don't blame you for what happened at the kindergarten."
I turned my head and said, "Thank you."
Lu Jing shook her head and said, "Actually, it's all my fault. If I had faced reality sooner, this wouldn't have happened, and my husband wouldn't have died..."
She suddenly choked up when she spoke of her painful experiences.
I didn't know how to comfort her, but thankfully she stopped sobbing after a moment, wiped the tears from her cheeks, and said, "I've thought a lot these past two days, and I've figured something out."
I turned to look at her.
Lu Jing said, "I want to live."
I paused, unsure how to respond. It's certainly a good thing to think that way, but why does it feel a little strange?
Lu Jing said, "Actually, it's not for any other reason than to live. My husband and daughter are already dead, and I don't want to die too. If that happens, no one will remember them anymore. So I want to live on, to live on for their sake as well."
So that's how it is.
I was somewhat surprised, because I didn't really understand the woman in front of me, but it was enough that she had this belief.
Whether you can survive or not depends entirely on your own efforts.
“You can do it,” I said.
Lu Jing stared at the moonlight in the sky, a forced smile appearing on her lips, and nodded solemnly: "Yes, I can do it."
We remained silent for a long time.
Lu Jing said, "It's getting late, you should get some rest. As for that girl, I think you should spend all your time with her now. I think that will make her happier."
