(The team is about to leave Hangzhou. Let's guess whether the safe zone is really safe.)
The six people who had been pushing the cart got off the cart again.
There's a university in front of us, but we don't know what kind of university it is, and it doesn't really matter anyway.
The university town is very large. Looking at the university in front of me, I suddenly thought of someone.
Jiang Xiaoxiao.
When I was trapped in the hospital emergency room, Zhou Yang's girlfriend, Jiang Xiaoxiao, called him and asked him to come and save her, but Zhou Yang later died.
I originally wanted to help Zhou Yang find Jiang Xiaoxiao, but a series of events that happened later made me unable to do so, and this task has never been completed.
Now that we need to get to the safe zone, I certainly can't let the whole team turn back to the medical school for Jiang Xiaoxiao's sake. Although I feel guilty, there's nothing I can do.
As for me going to find her by myself, that's even more unrealistic.
Putting our thoughts aside, the six of us made our way forward, slaying several monsters before entering the university through the back gate. We didn't venture deeper, but instead headed to the nearest building.
We entered the corridor on the first floor and found that the building was very clean and there were no monsters.
We found a room and shone a flashlight through the window. It seemed to be a semi-circular lecture hall, very large, quiet, and safe.
"This place is nice," Pu Weichao said softly.
Fei Lichao arrived at the door, pulled the doorknob, and found that the door was locked and could not be opened.
Yan Zhengfeng then found an unlocked window, climbed through it, and went to the door to open it.
After we went inside and checked everything, Pu Weichao said, "Let's rest here tonight."
Once confirmed, Yan Zhengfeng stayed behind to guard the area, in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
The remaining five of us returned to the car, took the others and necessary items to the lecture hall, locked the door, and only then did we feel relieved.
There were fourteen of us in total, and we settled down in the classroom.
Pu Weichao said, "It's seven o'clock now. Let's rest early and get up early tomorrow. From now on, the six of us will take turns keeping watch, two hours each. Li Jiaming, you're first, from now until nine o'clock. Xiaonan, you're second. I'm third. Brother Chen, you're fifth. Fei Lichao, you're sixth. Yan Zhengfeng, you're last."
"If anything happens along the way, wake everyone up immediately, without hesitation."
Pu Weichao arranged things meticulously; as long as you did as he said, there wouldn't be any problems.
After a bumpy two-hour journey, Li Qiming, exhausted, lay down and fell asleep immediately. The little girl, Zhong Linyun, also fell asleep leaning against Lu Jing's lap.
Li Jiaming was very disciplined, standing at the window watching the situation outside.
Letting him take the first shift is also a favor to him, given his previous performance, taking the first shift is the easiest thing to do.
...
Around eight o'clock, Pu Weichao pulled Fei Lichao and me out of the classroom. We found a corner outside the classroom, and with three bottles of drinks in hand, we seemed to want to discuss something.
"Why the hell did you drag us here instead of sleeping?" Fei Lichao asked in a low voice.
It was cold outside, and Fei Lichao looked displeased.
"Let's get down to business." Pu Weichao unscrewed the cap on his drink and took a sip. Instantly, his face contorted in a grimace, clearly stunned by the cold beverage.
"You're drinking this stuff in the dead of winter, aren't you afraid of getting diarrhea?" I said.
“I’m not afraid,” Pu Weichao said decisively. “I called you out to discuss the safe zone.”
"Say what the hell you want to say already, it's freezing cold in here, and then hurry back," Fei Lichao said.
Pu Weichao licked his lips and said, "I just thought of something that made me uneasy, so I wanted to discuss it with you."
"Speak quickly," Fei Lichao urged.
Pu Weichao continued, "Exactly, are you sure the safe zone is really safe?"
Fei Lichao asked in surprise, "What do you mean?"
"My point is simple: we can't treat the safe zone as our only destination, much less our only hope. What if we arrive at the Jiajiang Military Region full of excitement, only to find that the safe zone has already fallen? Wouldn't they be filled with despair then?"
Pu Weichao's statement makes some sense.
I thought for a moment and said, "But the Jiajiang Military Region is a safe zone. Since it's a military region, it must have plenty of ammunition and firepower. As long as the defense is proper, the monsters outside won't be able to get in, right?"
Fei Lichao chimed in, "Xiaonan is right, that place is a military region, do you think it's near the mountains?"
Pu Weichao chuckled and said, "Don't think it's too simple. Even you yourselves said that the safe zone can defend against the zombies outside, but what if there's a problem inside? When Xiaonan was rescuing people at that Tiande Pharmaceutical Company, he caused chaos all over the company by himself. Let alone a safe zone with so many people inside, if people are not united, the chances of problems are very high."
Fei Lichao frowned and said, "But no matter how you guess, it's just a hypothesis."
Pu Weichao nodded, "Yes, I was just making a hypothetical situation! I didn't say that the air-raid shelter would definitely fall! I brought this up just to establish a sense of crisis among us and then figure out a way out."
Fei Lichao and I were both stunned for a moment, then we understood what he was thinking.
Pu Weichao said, "Of course, I also hope the safe zone remains intact, so we won't have to travel around outside. But what if something really happens to the safe zone? So, it's better to have a backup plan than to keep going down this dead end, don't you think?"
"Yes." I nodded without hesitation.
