Chapter 744 The Plan for Longhu District
The hospital building has ten floors. After Liu Jiang and I finished our examinations on the fifth floor, we went directly to the tenth floor for our examination. The situation on the tenth floor was much worse than I had imagined. I don’t know if Yu Jin forgot about this place, but as soon as Liu Jiang and I reached the stairwell, we heard the roars of zombies coming from the tenth floor.
It was obvious that there were quite a few zombies on this floor, and we were right; there were indeed many zombies on the tenth floor, so many that we didn't even want to go in.
"It seems Yu Jin really forgot about this floor. Otherwise, how could so many zombies still be here?" I said.
Liu Jiang asked, "So what do we do now? Should we just rush in and kill all these zombies?"
I shook my head and said, "Let's wait. Tell the people down below that after the inspection is complete, they should all come to the tenth floor to meet up. The more people there are, the safer it will be. If it's just the two of us, with so many zombies, it's not safe."
"Okay." Liu Jiang used the walkie-talkie to notify the personnel who were still checking on the lower floors, telling them to hurry up and come up after they finished.
We waited on the tenth floor for about half an hour, and all eight people who were checking things downstairs came up.
I asked, "How's the situation down there?"
They all explained the situation: some zombies had been found in some hidden places, but there were no large-scale zombie outbreaks; they were just scattered individuals, making them easy to kill.
"Well, since there are no problems down below, that's good. Now only the tenth floor is left. Go and check on the situation."
We didn't say much, but let them go in and see for themselves. The eight of them went to the door and were all surprised when they saw so many zombies.
"How can there be so many zombies?"
I said, "Yu Jin must have forgotten. Alright, enough nonsense. Now that you're all here, let's begin. Let's kill all these zombies. Remember, don't waste bullets. I'll lure the zombies to the door, and you can take them down one by one. Remember, don't fire randomly, understand?"
"clear!"
"Hmm." I held the gun in my hand, glanced at the closed door, and pushed it open. The sound of the door opening instantly attracted the zombies on the tenth floor. They all turned their heads to look over, and then their feet moved involuntarily.
However, only the zombies at the entrance were disturbed; the zombies further inside did not hear the commotion at the entrance.
I said, "Shoot."
Then, gunfire erupted. The eight men, in groups of four, opened fire on the zombies inside. Whenever a zombie reached the doorway, the four men barely needed to aim; they simply fired directly at its head. One by one, the zombies fell.
As for the zombies deeper inside, after hearing the gunshots coming from the doorway, they came out of the wards in groups and walked towards the door.
As the number of zombies increased, the remaining four began to fill in, firing at the zombies in front of them.
Liu Jiang and I were prepared. Once the number of zombies increased, it would be very difficult to deal with them. If we didn't kill them in time and they broke through the door, the consequences would be unimaginable. Before long, Liu Jiang and I joined the ranks of those killing zombies.
The number of corpses at the entrance is increasing, which is starting to block the zombies inside. This is good news for us; if they want to come out, they will definitely trip over the zombies under their feet.
After killing for a full ten minutes, we had completely wiped out the zombies on the tenth floor. There were not only corpses on the ground, but also countless bullet casings. We didn't know how many shots we had fired; the ground was covered with eggshells.
I said, "Let's check it out. If there are no problems, have Pu Weichao send someone to clean up the bodies on this floor. Once that's all cleaned up, we can clean this place up and it will be habitable."
The inpatient department has ten floors, which should be able to accommodate almost everyone.
Finally, we went to the top floor for a look. The top floor was incredibly clean, with no zombies or corpses. It seems that no one came here when the zombie outbreak occurred.
Pu Weichao quickly sent people to clean up the corpses in the inpatient department. Most of the corpses were thrown outside the hospital and burned. After all, the corpses had already begun to decompose, and there was a risk that they might carry infectious diseases. If they infected everyone, it would be a bad thing. So it was better to burn them directly to prevent such a situation from happening. However, the chances of getting sick are relative.
The following day, everyone basically cleaned the entire hospital building. Then Pu Weichao started assigning everyone's accommodations. At first, everyone was allowed to choose for themselves, but disagreements always arose during the selection process. At this point, someone had to step in to mediate. In the end, Pu Weichao and I were basically arranging their accommodations.
The second to fourth floors are the floors they prefer to live on. Any higher up is too high for them, and there are no elevators available now, so nobody wants to live there. Most people are crammed into these three floors. Only a few people who couldn't get a room go up to the fifth or sixth floor. Nobody wants to go any higher. It's just too high. If they had to go downstairs every day, they would have to climb so many stairs every day. Who would want that?
After a day of arranging accommodations for all of them, Pu Weichao and I discovered that we ourselves had no rooms to stay in.
So after thinking it over, I decided to stay in the lounge area near the outpatient building, since it's quieter there.
By the time we finished tidying up our own place, it was almost evening.
We lay in bed, I was still in my lower bunk, while Pu Weichao was in the upper bunk, which used to be Zhou Yang's bed.
He asked, "What are your thoughts on the situation in Longhu District going forward?"
I said, "I don't know much about Longhu District. Besides Longhu itself, there's the area to the north, which is controlled by a man named Zhu Zhenhao. But I don't know if he's still there. We'll go check on him later."
Pu Weichao then asked, "Besides these two teams, are there any other teams?"
I said, "I haven't really noticed that before, because I've never encountered it before. I haven't asked Zhu Zhenhao's people either, but I suppose there must be other teams in Longhu District, which is so big."
Pu Weichao said, "In that case, we have no choice but to go and see for ourselves. Once things have stabilized here in a few days, we'll leave."
"In a few days? How many days?"
Pu Weichao received: "It will take anywhere from five days to half a month, depending on the situation."
