The knife Li Ming threw in clattered to the ground, attracting the zombies' attention.
I finally understand what Huo Cheng meant when he said that afternoon: it's time to change the people. He wants us all to die so he can replace us with a new batch!
That makes sense. We've been captured for so long, he must have realized we had ulterior motives, so he planned to pull this stunt to kill us while also watching a performance.
Li Ming's words were very clear.
In this performance, only one of me and the person next to me can survive.
I turned to look at him, and I knew his name was Du Shan, and he was only twenty years old.
The zombies had spotted us and turned around to walk towards us.
The zombie was originally near the knife, so neither Du Shan nor I moved. But now that the zombie is coming over, the knife on the ground is exposed, and Du Shan decisively rushes over to grab it.
But I didn't give him a chance.
I didn't reach for the knife. Instead, I moved quickly and ran behind him, wrapping my arms around his neck. This was a technique Fei Lichao taught me, which could suffocate someone to death in the shortest amount of time.
My reason for doing this is simple: if I went to get the knife, I would definitely be entangled by zombies, and it would take a lot of effort.
But if I kill him directly, I can continue killing zombies.
"Uh, uh—" Du Shan's face turned red as he tried to break free from my grasp, but he couldn't.
"Awooo!" Just then, the zombies came over.
Terror appeared in Du Shan's eyes. I kept pulling him back to avoid the zombies, and we went around them in a circle.
Du Shan's hands are quite strong; I haven't managed to strangle him yet.
"Put another zombie in!" Li Ming's voice suddenly came from behind me.
I was stunned to see yet another zombie being placed into the command platform.
Du Shan seemed to get impatient and started hitting my stomach with his elbow.
I felt a sharp pain, and with a sudden release, he was freed from my grasp.
"Cough, cough—" He collapsed to the ground, coughing incessantly, and both zombies rushed toward him.
He clutched his waist, which had been throbbing from the blow, and for a moment he couldn't catch his breath.
Du Shan had already obtained the knife and turned around to avoid the zombies, but there were two zombies chasing him, so he dodged one but not the other.
Another zombie pounced at his feet, grabbed his ankle, and bit his calf.
"Ah!" Du Shan screamed in agony.
"Get out of my way!" But he didn't give up. He kicked the zombie away, got up from the ground, stood up unsteadily, held a knife in his hand, and charged at me with bloodshot eyes, yelling, "Die!"
He's already been bitten by a zombie, so he's beyond saving and wants to drag me down with him.
But I don't want to die!
I still have so many things to do. I haven't avenged Yan Zhengfeng and the others yet. I haven't found Lu Jing and Fei Lichao yet. I don't know where my parents and sister are!
I haven't finished all of this yet, I can't die now!
The moment he charged at me, I moved my hands and grabbed his right hand holding the knife, twisting it violently.
Click!
His right arm was dislocated!
"Ah!" he screamed again!
This time I didn't give him any chance and kicked him directly in the chest. He flew backward and crashed into a zombie, where they fell together.
The zombies, naturally, felt no pain; instead, they became even more excited, opening their mouths to bite Du Shan, whose screams echoed throughout the room.
Hearing his screams, another zombie went over and began to eat him.
Not long after, Du Shan died, a very thorough death. Two zombies devoured him together, and his intestines were dragged all over the ground.
The second performance was over. The people around me seemed to be really enjoying it; looking at their excited faces, I really wanted to just kill them all.
I didn't turn around, but I heard Huo Cheng's voice behind me: "Let him rest for a bit, bring up the remaining three people, just like before."
Li Ming nodded and began making arrangements.
I was pulled out of the arena by Li Ming and brought to his side. There were two zombies and two corpses on the command platform. As for when the two corpses would turn into zombies, nobody knew.
The other three were pushed up.
Hu Fei was one of them.
Hu Fei's expression was solemn, and it was unclear what he was thinking.
Li Ming then said, "Just like before, only one of you three can live."
Hu Fei moved as soon as Li Ming finished speaking.
His reaction was faster than anyone else's. The first thing he did was grab someone next to him and throw him into the midst of the two zombies.
"Ah!" The person who was thrown into the zombies was terrified and completely at a loss. By the time he tried to get up and run away, it was too late. He was grabbed by a zombie and bitten, drawing blood.
I didn't expect Hu Fei to be so direct!
However, this also makes me very happy. As long as he has this ability, our chances of escaping from here will be much greater.
The people around were surprised by Hu Fei's actions, and then burst into loud cheers. Huo Cheng behind me even started clapping.
My brow furrowed; I hoped Hu Fei would survive.
I reckon if Hu Fei survives, the final performance will definitely be a showdown between him and me! Then I can work with him, and hopefully he won't target me during the performance.
We must act together so that we can both survive.
