"What are you talking about? How is my dad?"
Xiaoman then looked embarrassedly at Wang Xiaolan and Zhao Lihan behind Wang Hai and nodded to them.
When Wang Xiaolan met her sister-in-law for the first time, her first impression of her was unremarkable, neither good nor bad.
She just politely whispered, "Sister-in-law."
Xiaoman responded, "I'm glad you're back."
As he said this, he led them into the house.
As she walked, she explained, "Dad asked me to come out to see if you guys are back. Come in quickly, Dad is waiting for you."
Several people hurried into the room.
…
Wang Xiaolan and Zhao Lihan walked quickly to the bedside of Mr. Wang. When the old man saw his daughter whom he had been thinking about day and night, his originally cloudy eyes suddenly flashed with a bright light. He struggled hard, as if he wanted to sit up.
Seeing this, Wang Xiaolan hurried forward and quickly placed another quilt gently behind his back, making him half lying down.
Old Mr. Wang looked at his daughter, so excited that he didn't know what to say. His Adam's apple rolled up and down like a restless ball. He just opened his mouth, but before he could make a sound, he burst into a violent coughing storm.
Originally, his face was as pale as paper, but it turned red due to the coughing.
Wang Xiaolan patted his back and said soothingly, "Dad, don't rush to say what you want to say."
Then he signaled Zhao Lihan to bring the medicine box over.
Zhao Lihan opened the medicine box, and Wang Xiaolan took out silver needles from it and performed acupuncture on his Hegu, Tiantu and Feishu points.
After more than ten minutes, Wang Danian's cough stopped.
Then she took out a bottle of medicine from the medicine box, poured out a few pills from it, and asked Mr. Wang to take them.
Wang Danian's breathing became smoother and he felt much better.
He held Wang Xiaolan's hand.
"Child, I have something to tell you."
"Dad, you just took some medicine. You need to rest for it to work."
He stared at Wang Xiaolan and asked, "Lan'er, you won't leave, will you?"
"I won't leave. I'll stay with you."
After hearing what he said, Mr. Wang nodded and closed his eyes.
After a while, I fell asleep.
Wang Hai led them out of the bedroom and sat them down on chairs in the living room.
Wang Hai said, "Little sister, Dad hasn't slept like this for a long time. Some time ago, he coughed all night and couldn't sleep. Your few injections have stopped his cough. If you give him a few more injections in the future, maybe Dad's illness will get better."
"Brother, these injections I gave him only relieved his cough and made him feel better. I can't save him. His cancer cells have spread throughout his body."
Upon hearing this, Wang Hai asked anxiously, "Is there no other solution?"
She shook her head and said, "Dad, if you had taken the medicine you brought back that day, the disease wouldn't have spread so quickly."
When Wang Hai heard this, his face instantly turned ugly, as if covered by a thick layer of dark clouds.
His eyes were filled with pain and regret, his lips trembling slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but couldn't. The self-blame in his heart surged like a tide, drowning his entire soul.
He mumbled, "It's my fault. I didn't know it was so serious..."
"Brother, it's my fault. I didn't tell you about Dad's condition. I was afraid you couldn't handle it..."
Zhao Lihan was standing aside and saw that they were all blaming him.
"You are all right. Now that things have come to this, the most important thing right now is to make sure the old man suffers less from his illness."
After a painful struggle, Wang Hai accepted the reality and spoke with difficulty, asking, "Little sister, according to your diagnosis, how long will Dad live?"
Wang Xiaolan didn't answer his question immediately, and told Zhao Lihan: "Go make some porridge for Dad! Feed him some porridge when he wakes up."
Zhao Lihan was about to get up.
Xiaoman, who was standing aside, said, "Let me go!" Then she went to the kitchen.
"Brother, Dad doesn't have much time left. The only thing I can do is to let him finish his life in peace."
As she spoke, her voice was choked like a broken wind chime in the wind, and tears flowed like a burst dam.
"I regret it so much. I'm unfilial. I haven't come back to see my father in all these years."
"Little sister, this is not your fault. That woman was here at the time and she regarded us as a thorn in her side. No one else would want to enter this house."
Zhao Lihan gently embraced Wang Xiaolan, whose face was covered with tears and in great pain, into his warm arms. His eyes were full of pity as he gently patted her back to comfort her.
"Daughter-in-law, don't be like this. Dad won't blame you. Your task now is to be strong and not let Dad see you sad. Otherwise, he will feel even worse."
At this moment, a low and weak voice came from the quiet bedroom, as if it had crossed the boundaries of time and space and gently floated into their ears.
Although the voice was not loud, it carried an irresistible cry for help and helplessness that made people feel distressed.
Wang Xiaolan wiped away her tears, and several people immediately returned to the bedroom.
She sat down on the old man's bed and smoothed her hand over his chest.
"Dad, how do you feel?"
"My dear, I feel much better now. After your injection, I feel much more relaxed and even had a good sleep."
At this moment, Xiaoman came over carefully carrying a bowl of steaming porridge. The porridge exuded an enticing aroma that made people salivate.
