Volume 1 Hidden Conspiracy: Grain Harvesting Chapter 60

I also discussed it with my parents, and we've decided to invite my master, Wu Shi, and my senior brother to come to our house for the Chinese New Year.

The parents were naturally happy, after all, after what happened with Manager Dong, they felt only gratitude towards their mentor.

With my connection to them, my master and my parents also became more familiar with each other.

Shanghai is quite different from the north; you almost never see heavy snow here in winter, which is a bit of a shame.

Just like this year, February 9th was the Lunar New Year's Eve, and today is already December 25th.

With the year-end approaching, the number of assigned tasks naturally decreased.

I was bored out of my mind, so I swept the dust off the ground in the courtyard of the Taoist temple.

Just then, a woman burst in through the door.

"Hello, who are you looking for?" I asked politely, while also having some doubts.

Logically speaking, this Taoist temple courtyard is hidden behind the small door of the antique shop, and it is not a place that ordinary people would know about.

The fact that this woman could barge in proves that she is very familiar with this place.

The woman looked around but didn't reply to me immediately.

It seemed to have been searching for something in vain before finally turning its gaze to me.

"Huh? Why are you here, little girl? Where's Ma Tianxiong?"

I immediately sensed something was wrong. This person clearly knew my master, but judging from his tone, he seemed to have ill intentions.

I tentatively asked, "What brings you to my master?"

Hearing my question, the woman seemed somewhat surprised: "Oh? Master, so you're that guy's apprentice?"

"If he's not here, I'll come back another day. If he's here, I'll just go in and find him."

Seeing this, I didn't want to stop them too much, so I simply replied:

"Master is resting normally. Please wait a moment, I will call him out right away."

I went inside and saw my teacher engrossed in his studies, so I went up to him:

"Master, a woman has come outside and says she wants to see you."

"She barged directly into the Taoist temple compound and even called you by your full name. It seems she knows you."

The master frowned, put down the book in his hand, got up and walked out of the hall, reciting as he went:

"Huh, who's looking for me at this hour?"

I followed my master out of the hall, only to see that woman sitting leisurely on the stone bench, looking as if she didn't consider herself an outsider at all.

The master was stunned the moment he saw the woman.

"Qianxue? What brings you here?"

The master's words clearly carried surprise, and also a hint of joy.

The woman looked up at her master, but made no move to get up.

"Oh, what? I can't come?"

"You're still living in this shabby place? I thought you'd been kicked out a long time ago."

Master's eye twitched: "It's not Qianxue, you've already come looking for me."

"Why is it in the Northeast? Are you not used to it?"

The woman snorted coldly and rebuked:

"Hmph, things are great in the Northeast. If it weren't for something, who would come to this wretched place?"

Seeing the two arguing, I thought I'd step in to smooth things over, because judging from their posture, they could start fighting at any moment.

"Master, who is this?"

Before the master could answer, the woman spoke first:

“My surname is Meng, and my name is Meng Qianxue. If you are this guy’s disciple, then you should call me Master’s wife.”

Meng Qianxue's words shocked me so much that my jaw almost dropped to the ground.

"Master's wife?"

"Ah, this..."

I didn't respond to that, but instead turned to look at my master.

Master turned his head towards me, then glanced at Meng Qianxue beside him:

"What are you still thinking about? Just yell!"

I admit I was numb at that moment.

I always thought that my master had never been married, or that he was married but his wife had passed away.

How come my master's wife is still alive and well? This doesn't make sense.

Did I waste all those time watching TV dramas and reading novels?

But how could I dare say these things to anyone? I could only honestly start calling out to people:

"Greetings, Master's wife. I am Chen Xi, a disciple recently accepted by Master. May you live a long and prosperous life."

But the teacher's wife still had that cold face:

"Okay, so what did your master teach you?"

Hearing my teacher's wife ask the question, I awkwardly cracked my knuckles:

"Reporting to Master's wife, I am of dull talent and have only learned some intermediate-level talismans and basic Golden Light Spells."

As I answered, my teacher's wife's expression darkened further:

"Yes, it is indeed quite stupid."

"Huh, ah, ah?" I was stunned. I didn't expect my teacher's wife to say that.

If this teacher's wife were in other novels, she would at least be a domineering female CEO.

That icy aura, those sarcastic words.

The main problem is that I can't refute it, which is what makes me most helpless.

Seeing my tearful expression, my master sighed and shook his head helplessly.

"Xiao Xi, don't take it to heart. She really has the right to say that."

"Back then, your master married her because he misjudged her strength."

I was completely bewildered: "Does marriage have anything to do with one's financial strength?"

"It seems like we're completely unrelated."

I suspect my master is treating me like a fool.

The master's wife stood up and casually patted the dust off her backside.

He slowly walked to his master's side, and pinched the soft flesh of his master's waist, causing the master to wince in pain.

"Oh no, Qianxue! No! Oh!"
