Volume Two: Fierce Fangs and Claws - Operational Guidelines, Chapter 147

I slowly drew my bronze sword, ready to fight at any moment.

Perhaps due to the stronger yin energy tonight, the already somewhat eerie temple is now filled with a suffocating sense of oppression.

The thought of facing cult members who might strike at any moment made my heart race involuntarily.

We slowed our pace and stepped into the main hall. The statue of the deity placed in the center seemed incredibly eerie at that moment.

Suddenly, from behind the statue, more than a dozen cold, sharp lights flew towards the group.

Almost simultaneously, the others and I reacted, each swinging our longswords and colliding with the incoming hidden weapons.

Sparks flew and the clanging of metal echoed through the temple.

At that moment, I moved with extraordinary agility, and in a flash, I found cover to take refuge.

Senior Jiang continuously channeled his energy, launching several fireballs towards the back of the statue!

"I'm sorry, City God, I'm sure you can understand!" Senior Jiang muttered to himself, as if speaking to a statue of a deity.

After a few fireballs were fired, hurried footsteps came from behind the statue!

"Chase them! We can't let them get away!"

Senior Jiang rushed forward first, followed by several more exploding fireballs.

Good heavens, this is practically a human cannon!

The crowd gave chase, and just then, the black-robed man who had been hiding in the shadows thrust his sword at my chest.

I swung my sword forcefully, deflecting the black-robed man's fatal blow. Then, with a backhand slash, I severed the black-robed man's arm.

Blood spurted out, even splashing directly onto my face. Almost simultaneously, the black-robed man's scream reached my ears. I clutched my arm, bent over, and trembled all over.

Without the slightest hesitation, I slashed my sword across the black-robed man's neck. At a time like this, time was of the essence; killing the enemy as quickly as possible was the best solution!

These men in black robes were clearly no ordinary people; sensing the danger, they immediately concealed themselves.

We peered inside and found Senior Jiang standing in the backyard, looking around. He was carrying two men in black robes, whose backs were pierced with darts. Clearly, Senior Jiang had used their corpses as shields.

"You are truly despicable, daring to ruin the Heaven and Earth Church's plans. Haven't you learned your lesson from the Taoist Association last time? Do you think not enough people have died yet?"

A hoarse voice came from the depths of the darkness, and out stepped a hunched old man, also dressed in a black robe. Perhaps because there were too many people around, this old man did not stand out as much.

In addition, they had just jumped over the high wall together to get here, so naturally no one noticed that there was another person there.
