Driven by curiosity, I turned to the second page.
At the very top, there was a character that read "mountain".
The methods and techniques for cultivating the "physical body" and "spirit" are: ingesting bait, foundation building, profound scriptures, fist techniques, and talismans, so as to achieve a stable state of mind and body!
As the name suggests, "taking medicine" refers to improving physical fitness through drugs and diet.
Below are annotations written by Uncle Ma:
The medicines are mainly elixirs, which regulate the meridians and prolong life. There were once highly skilled Taoists who cultivated bodies that were immune to all poisons.
After seeing this, I gasped in shock.
Good heavens, even Shennong wouldn't dare claim to be immune to all poisons!
My curiosity only grew, so I continued reading.
Foundation building involves using meditation to control essence, energy, and spirit, thereby enhancing physical strength.
Xuan Dian (玄典) involves studying Taoist principles and methods to cultivate one's mind and body in order to achieve transcendence.
The boxing techniques, with Tai Chi and Baguazhang as the main training methods, aim to open up the twelve meridians and maximize the strength of the physical body.
A talisman! My eyes lit up when I saw this. This was exactly what I was going to learn next!
The back reads: "One of the spells used for spiritual communication and cultivation. It can be infused with one's own spirit to seek good fortune and avoid misfortune, and to ward off evil spirits and demons."
Only after seeing this did I understand.
It turns out that talismans belong to the "Mountain" category of the Five Arts of Taoism.
I used to think that talismans were something that needed to be practiced separately.
I never imagined that Taoist practices would contain such profound knowledge.
Just the single character for "mountain" contains so much that ordinary people can never reach it in their lifetime.
I suddenly realized that to draw a good talisman, one's mental strength must be strong, otherwise it is impossible to succeed.
No wonder Uncle Ma let me see the contents of the book first.
Turn to page 3
The top part is the character for "medicine," which is what people often refer to as medical skills.
It is roughly divided into: prescriptions, acupuncture, and spiritual healing, and the content is relatively easy to understand.
The last dozen or so pages of the book gave me the creeps!
