Volume 1 Hidden Conspiracy, Chapter 52

"Although you do have some skill, I really hate you bunch of arrogant Taoist priests!"

"You keep talking about the stability of the world and the salvation of the common people?"

"That sounds nice!"

"But in my opinion, you're just after that stinking money."

"After all, he used to be one!"

"To become a high-ranking official, one is willing to sacrifice everything, even one's own wife!"

"As long as he lives, my resentment will never dissipate!"

"Let me show you the pain I've suffered!"

The female ghost became more and more agitated as she spoke, and the yin energy emanating from her body began to surge outwards like waves, threatening to engulf people.

Even I felt that the scene in front of me was constantly changing, as if I had traveled through time.

Even if the female ghost can't see me, I still exist in this house.

No one knows what method the female ghost used, but the spread of yin energy was so great that it could even envelop the entire room!

The scene before me resembled a desolate and impoverished mountain village, filled with desolation and ruin.

The scene seemed to be constantly adjusting its perspective, finally stopping at a house.

The family of three lived a simple life, but it looked very warm and cozy, just like the simple and beautiful life that most people long for!

The man in that household was a middle-aged scholar with a well-proportioned figure and handsome features; even by today's standards, he would be considered a refined and handsome middle-aged man.

The woman, on the other hand, had her hair tied up with a wooden hairpin in her hair, and her eyes were full of adoration and deep affection for the man.

There was also a little boy running around in the yard, creating a very leisurely and pleasant scene.

But upon closer inspection, one can discover that the woman's appearance is exactly the same as that of a female ghost!

Although her face wasn't as cold, nor did she exude that sickly aura, nor did she possess the tyranny that the female ghost now had, it was still recognizable that this woman was the female ghost in her previous life.

I watched the scene unfold before me quietly, and I began to yearn for such a life.

The couple understands and accompanies each other, and the children add vitality and energy to the home, making it a truly happy family.

Although their life was poor and frugal, the woman did not show the slightest disdain or reluctance.

At this moment, the man's words broke the silence:

"Madam, do you think I'll pass the exam this year?"

The woman smiled, her eyes filled with tenderness:

"My husband need not worry too much. No matter what you do, I will take good care of our child. Just do your best."

"Besides, with my husband's knowledge and background, how could he possibly lose his composure in the imperial examinations?"

"My lord, please do your best. I will wait for you to return."

Having said that, the woman picked up the calligraphy brush on the table and began to write on the large sheet of white paper:

To see through the myriad aspects of human nature

How can one merely preserve one's life by cowardice?

If your lofty ambitions still remain,

They trudged through the mud to leave the desolate village.

A poem appeared on the paper, the brush was lightly lifted, and the brush was carefully placed on the inkstone.

The woman's face flushed slightly, a hint of shyness in her eyes.

"My husband usually studies poetry and literature diligently, and I have also memorized some of them. I just had the idea to show off in front of you. I hope you will forgive me."

After speaking, the woman lowered her head slightly, not daring to look the man in the eye.

The man picked up the poem on the table and began to savor it:

"Breaking through the mud, we emerged from the desolate village..."

"Yes, I was really confused. I had great ambitions, but I was indecisive and wasted my time alone. I shouldn't have done that."

"Thanks to my wife for guiding me through the maze, it was like seeing the bright moon after the clouds had parted. I am truly blessed to have my wife!"

“Madam, I have made up my mind. I will set off tomorrow. If I pass the imperial examination and find a place to settle down in the capital, I will definitely bring you here to share wealth and honor with me.”

The woman smiled and shook her head:

"I do not seek immense wealth, nor do I desire gold, silver, or silk."

"I only ask to spend my life with my husband, and that will be my lifelong wish."

"My husband will inevitably suffer on his journey, and there will be no one to accompany him. If he is tired, there will be no one to rely on."

"Today I will relieve my husband's fatigue."

After saying that, she knelt down behind the man and began to massage him.

I was feeling a warm feeling, but I didn't know why the woman had turned into a female ghost.

The scene shifts again, and as time passes, the woman becomes more mature, appearing to be in her thirties, but her family's circumstances become even more impoverished.

The child who used to run around the yard has grown into a strong young man of fifteen or sixteen, and seems to have been well taken care of.

However, there was no man in the courtyard.

The young man casually asked his mother, "Mom, when is Dad coming back?"

"It's been almost ten years since Dad went away to take the exam!"

The woman's face was full of kindness: "Dazhuang, don't worry, Daddy will be back soon."

Although the woman said this, there was still a hint of melancholy in her eyes.

My husband hasn't returned home for ten years since he left. I wonder how he is doing now?

Faced with her son's questions, the woman could only give perfunctory answers, and this perfunctory response lasted for ten years!

Time continued to pass day by day...

Finally, one day, the village announced that a new magistrate had been appointed to the county government. It was said that he had returned from the capital and was a local.

The previous county magistrate had been dismissed due to inaction.

The woman also considered going to the county government office to look for her husband's whereabouts.
