Volume 1: Hidden Intrigues and Choices, Chapter 25

Before leaving my house, Uncle Ma personally handed me several amulets for good luck.

He instructed me to place it in a corner of the house so that it could ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune.

This prevents family members from being harmed by evil magic again, and also allows for immediate detection, essentially providing an extra layer of protection.

From what I heard on the phone just now, that charlatan doesn't seem to intend to stop there.

Of course, I couldn't just sit and wait to die!

We have to go find Uncle Ma and ask him for help in finding a solution.

Actually, I already had an answer in my heart.

I've been hesitating, unsure of what to choose.

Perhaps I was too greedy, but sometimes, you have to make choices.

The next morning

A familiar and sweet voice came into my room.

Xixi is a place I came to during my holiday.

Xixi pounced on me and pinned me to the bed, she was incredibly excited.

Her little face kept rubbing against mine, like a kitten I hadn't seen in a long time.

Xixi is like a pistachio; just being near it brings joy.

My heart doesn't feel as heavy as it did yesterday.

I got up, quickly tidied myself up, slung my bag over my shoulder, and headed to Uncle Ma's antique shop with Xixi.

On the way, Xixi and I told each other about the stories that had happened some time ago.

Of course, I didn't mention the existence of the Paranormal Investigation Bureau because I didn't know if it was classified.

Knowing less is also beneficial for Xixi, to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Xixi's reaction to me was exactly what I expected.

From disbelief to utter shock, it was as if I were listening to a novel.

When Xixi heard about Li Xue's experience, she was also very angry. It seems that every girl is disgusted by this kind of thing.

In order to live a better material life, she was willing to disregard her shame and become a mistress, and then pretend to be a victim.

In reality, it was all her own doing. While Sun Mengcai was certainly involved, the choice was ultimately her own.

I looked at Xixi, who was putting on that disappointed expression, and I couldn't help but want to laugh.

Sometimes I feel that Xixi is more like a child, with a clear sense of right and wrong, but always seems carefree.

If I hadn't known about her past, I would have really thought that Xixi had been a very happy person since she was a child.

After another two hours of travel, we arrived at Uncle Ma's antique shop once again.

When I arrived at the shop, I found that Uncle Ma's antique shop was closed today, and I had no idea where Uncle Ma had gone.

I took out my phone and dialed Uncle Ma's number.

A few seconds later, Uncle Ma's familiar voice came from the other end of the phone:

"What's wrong, girl? What happened?"

Hearing Uncle Ma's voice made me feel like I had someone to rely on, and my worries lessened a bit.

I told Uncle Ma about how that evil Taoist had contacted me last night.

Uncle Ma fell silent on the other end of the phone.

He spoke again after a long silence:

"As expected?"

Where are you now?

I glanced at the shop's signboard:

"I had planned to visit you in person today."

“Xixi and I are right in front of your shop, but I see that the shop is still closed.”

Uncle Ma responded over the phone:

"Oh, I have something to take care of outside, I might not be back for another two or three hours."

"If you're not in a hurry, you can take a stroll around the neighborhood."

"Although the surrounding area is not as lively as Puguang District."

"There are quite a few places to visit."

I turned around and glanced around:

"Okay, Uncle Ma, you go ahead with your work. We'll go take a look around the area nearby."

"Just give me a call when you get back."

After hanging up the phone, I turned to look at Xixi:

"Uncle Ma has some things to take care of right now and will be back in a while. Let's wander around the neighborhood for now."

Xixi nodded excitedly:

"Great! We haven't explored this place yet, let's see what's fun here!"

Xixi grabbed my arm and leaned her whole body against me.

We walked along the streets where there wasn't much foot traffic.

The Dedication District is not like the Puguang District; not every place has such a noisy crowd.

You wouldn't even realize that it's located in one of the most bustling cities in the country.

After walking quite a distance, we arrived at a commercial street. This place was completely different from the place we had just been.

Xixi and I stood on the bustling street, surrounded by all sorts of people and shops.

Sunlight streamed through the clouds, bathing the streets in its glow, and the warmth of countless lights illuminated every home. At that moment, my vision was overwhelmed by the sight.

I took a deep breath and felt my mood brighten up.

I took Xixi's hand and walked into the mall. What greeted us was a variety of colorful goods and a crowd of people as vast as the ocean.

My eyes swept across the entrances of various shops, searching for something that caught my eye.

When we passed by a jewelry store, Xixi's eyes were immediately drawn to the various jewelry items inside.

Xi Xi quickly called out, "Xiao Xi, let's go inside the store and take a look, it looks so beautiful!"

My gaze also turned to the earrings and necklaces; each style was novel.

"Hmm, let's see if there's anything we like."

It has to be said that this shop is very popular with girls; almost every girl who passes by will come in and take a look.
