Volume 2, Chapter 92: The Fierce-Toothed Immortal

The master nodded, then shook his head:

"Not entirely. We investigated afterward and found that the yin-avoiding formation was set up by that rat."

"In other words, not only that rat, but many members of the Heaven and Earth Church also went out to help."

"This is a terrible thing!"

"If enough Yin-avoiding formations are set up at the same time, they can even directly threaten the balance between the Yin and Yang realms."

"The balance between the Yin and Yang realms is the key to opening the gates of hell."

"Once this door is opened, I'm sure you all know what will happen without me having to tell you!"

My mouth dropped open as I thought of something terrifying:

"You mean... this place will become a real hell!"

"Once the gate is breached, the barrier between the Yin and Yang realms will disappear, and at that time, the ghosts of the Yin realm will enter the Yang realm."

"Back then, the mortal realm was teeming with evil spirits!"

The master sighed heavily:

"Yes, back then, tens of millions of ghosts escaped. I can't even imagine what the world would become!"

"What worries me most is that many of the ghosts in the underworld are thousands of years old."

“Those at the level of ghost kings and ghost generals can take countless lives in the blink of an eye. Even my master couldn’t stop this situation.”

I gasped. If things really escalated to that point, there might be no turning back!

But what can we do now?

After dinner, we returned to the Paranormal Investigation Bureau.

Director Huang is very efficient; he prepared everything needed in just two hours.

The master directed the people to place the items on an open ground. The master then took out a compass from his satchel and laid it flat on the ground.

I put on gloves, took a piece of charcoal from the basin, and drew a pattern on the ground that I couldn't understand.

After I finished drawing it, I realized it looked like a Buddhist altar.

The master lit the sandalwood incense, and wisps of white smoke drifted outwards, releasing their fragrance.

Then the master took the bowl of rooster blood, walked to Sun Mengcai's side, and poured half a bowl of rooster blood down Sun Mengcai's throat.

Then the master waved his finger in the air to draw a talisman, and then placed his finger on Sun Mengcai's forehead.

Sun Mengcai's complexion turned rosy at a visible speed, and bloodstains slowly seeped from his chest.

The master used a bowl to catch the flowing blood until no more blood flowed out, and then covered Sun Mengcai with the white cloth again.

The master found the sandalwood incense burner, grabbed a handful of glutinous rice, and threw it into the bowl.

He then lit a flaming talisman and threw it into the bowl.

The blood in the bowl was bubbling and gurgling, and the glutinous rice was beginning to expand.

The master then moved the paper-made black dog next to the charcoal. Sure enough, the black dog had a very big nose, and it looked like it had been specially made to order.

The master was quite satisfied with the paper-made black dog.

The master turned to the crowd and said, "Alright, so far everything is going smoothly. Let's wait for the sun to set so we can begin the ritual."

I was very puzzled, so I asked, "Master, what exactly is this that you drew with charcoal?"

"It looks to me like an altar, or a magic formation."

Master clapped his hands, turned to me and said, "This is called the Spirit Summoning Formation. We'll use the formation to summon the Black Dog Earth Immortal."

“He had no body in the mortal world, so I created one for him.”

I thought about it for a moment, then asked, "Why is this black dog-like earth spirit helping us?"

The master laughed and replied, "Haha, not bad, very clever, you guessed that."

“The earth immortal has no obligation to help us. Since we invited it, we naturally need to entertain it.”

"That's why I told them to buy sandalwood."

“Earthly immortals belong to Yin. To become a true immortal, one needs to consume offerings from the mortal world, and this sandalwood incense is just the right amount of fine wine and food.”

"And since they're underground, basically no one worships them, so they'd be very willing to help with this."

"Oh, I see!" I suddenly realized.

The master nodded and smiled, "Yes, now we just wait until it gets dark, when the earth immortal's energy is at its peak, and then we can summon it."

And so, the group of people quietly waited for the sun to set.

In February, the days are short and the nights are long.

It was just past six o'clock, and the sun had already set.

The master stood up from his seat: "Alright, it's time!"

He then stepped forward to the spirit-summoning array, picked up the bowl of glutinous rice soaked in blood, and smeared the sticky glutinous rice on the mouth of the paper-mache black dog.

Then the master began to draw talismans in the air, chanting incantations and making hand gestures:

"The netherworld is deep and the earth has a spirit."

“Through countless twists and turns, you offer your soul, and I will mold its form.”

"Immortals are the guardians of the underworld, while the Tao is the scales of peace in the mortal world."

"Borrowing divine power, quell evil spirits, seek out demons, Black Dog Earth Immortal reveals his divine form!"

As the incantation was uttered, a sudden gust of cold wind arose!

I rubbed my arms together to ward off the cold wind.

Wu Shi opened his arms and hugged me with half of his Taoist robe.

I was a little surprised. So this was Wu Shi's gentler side?

He pays close attention to my movements, even the smallest details.

At that moment, I felt very warm. It seemed that I had made the right choice by mustering up the courage to get our marriage certificate.

I leaned closer to Wu Shi, feeling the warmth emanating from him.

At this moment, the paper-mache black dog began to shake, as if something inside it was controlling it.

Seeing the black dog swaying, the master drew a flaming talisman out of thin air and set the paper dog on fire.

The flames burst into flames, and the paper-mache black dog's form was vaguely revealed in the fire.

The paper-mache black dog turned to ashes in the flames, and in its place was a black dog surrounded by eerie energy.

Its appearance is nine-tenths similar to the paper-made black dog.

At this moment, the black dog spoke in human language: "Who summoned this immortal?"

The master stepped forward and bowed to the black dog with a Taoist salute, then said, "Great Immortal Black Dog, I have something to ask you to come up here. I hope you will forgive me."

"I have prepared incense for the immortal to enjoy."

Upon hearing this, the black dog immediately became excited: "Oh? You're quite good at dealing with people."

"However, one cannot accept a reward without merit. Speak, what brings you here to see me, an immortal?"

The master respectfully said, "It is like this, Great Immortal, a murder committed by an evil spirit has occurred here, which happened half a month ago."

"We Taoists have always upheld the principle of maintaining order between the Yin and Yang realms. Naturally, we cannot sit idly by and ignore such evil spirits."

"But my abilities are limited, and I have no way to track down the evil spirit, nor do I know exactly what is causing the harm."

"That's why we need to trouble you, Great Immortal, to lend a hand and track down the whereabouts of that evil spirit. I think this would be a meritorious deed for you."

Black Dog Immortal was overjoyed after hearing this: "Hahaha, I see."

"Your words are quite pleasing to the ear, I am very satisfied. I will help you with this favor!"
