Volume Two: The First Sprouts of Fierce Fangs and Claws! Chapter 161

As they traveled along a wasteland, they encountered many ghostly soldiers who were holding chains, clearly responsible for escorting ghosts.

The ghost soldiers also looked in our direction, but none of them came forward to speak; they turned and continued walking.

It seems that it's the same everywhere: if it doesn't concern you, don't bother; nobody wants to cause trouble for themselves.

With no one stopping us, our movements went exceptionally smoothly, and we soon came to see another city wall.

Above the city wall, the three large characters "Baisha City" are written. It seems that this is the place that the ghost soldier just mentioned.

Below the city wall, two ghostly soldiers still stood guard.

The master stepped forward and bowed a Taoist salute to the two ghostly soldiers:

"Gentlemen, my master and I are Taoist priests from Maoshan. We have come to the city today with important business to discuss with His Highness Prince Qin Guang. We hope you can make an exception for us."

The two guards looked on with suspicion when they heard their master say this. One of the guards was about to speak when the other guard stopped him. Then, the master said something to the other guard, and the two of them slowly walked in a direction not far away.

"Let's go into town," my master called to me, and I finally snapped out of my daze.

"Master, what's wrong with us..."

"That guard was a smart man; he chose to turn a blind eye. After all, it involved the King of Hell, so they didn't dare to interfere too much."

Hearing my master say that, I realized that I had thought these two guards would stop us like the previous one, but they got in so easily.

Once you enter the city, it gradually begins to resemble a city, although the style is very retro, somewhat like something from thousands of years ago.

There were no wandering ghosts on the road, whether due to local regulations or the absence of ghosts altogether, is unknown.

My master and I could only keep moving forward, hoping to find a ghost to ask for directions.

They walked a long way but saw nothing. The maze-like streets led in all directions, and they couldn't find King Qin Guang's residence at all.

"Who are you? Why are you wandering around here?"

A clear, ethereal voice reached my ears, startling me.

I looked in the direction of the sound and immediately saw a man with long hair. He was very elegant and held a folding fan in his hand, giving off the feeling of a male protagonist in an ancient Chinese novel.

However, the man's voice was very melodious, clearly indicating that he was also a ghost.

His face showed no other expression; he simply stared at us, seemingly waiting for our answer.

Are you asking us?

I glanced at the man, my finger simultaneously pointing at myself.

"Could it be that there are other people around here?" The man's words remained emotionless, leaving his purpose, friend or foe, unknown.

I looked around, and indeed, apart from my master, the man in front of me, there was no one else here.

"Hello, we are Taoist priests from Maoshan. This is my master. We just happened to be looking for someone to ask for directions. If it's alright, could you tell me how to get to His Highness Prince Qin Guang's residence?" I didn't know what their purpose was, but I tried to be as friendly as possible to avoid a lot of trouble.

The man frowned slightly: "Oh? You're looking for King Qin Guang?"

With just one sentence, I could tell that this person was no ordinary individual. The fact that he did not use honorifics when referring to King Qin Guang proved that his status did not require honorifics.

It wasn't because King Qin Guang wasn't present, otherwise the ghostly soldiers guarding the city gate wouldn't have addressed him as "Your Excellency."

"I do know his residence, but I'd like to know, what brings you here?"

I hesitated, wondering whether I should tell the person in front of me the purpose of my visit. After all, the other party was too mysterious, and if things went wrong, it might put my master and me in danger.

I turned to look at my master, only to find him unusually calm, merely staring at the man before him without uttering a single word.

The man only glanced at his master, but his gaze eventually fell on me.

After a brief moment of thought, I realized that since my master didn't object, he probably acquiesced. Yet, he didn't say a word, which meant that the person in front of me was no ordinary individual, and I doubted that I could hide anything from him if I were lying.

Since that's the case... I let out a long sigh and said, "To be honest, the purpose of our visit is to ask His Highness King Qin Guang for something. That thing is really important to me, no matter the cost."

My heart was pounding. If the man in front of me didn't want to help me and instead turned away, we probably wouldn't find him anytime soon, even with our needle-in-a-haystack search.

The man fell silent again. I couldn't tell what he was thinking at all, so I could only wait quietly.

After a long while, the man finally spoke slowly: "Come with me."

I was overjoyed; it seemed the other party was willing to help us.

However, I remained cautious. After all, no one knows the other party's background. If they want to trick us, we can react immediately and avoid being too passive.

My master and I walked behind that man. My master remained silent the whole way, which made me even more curious.

I slowed my pace and walked to my master's side, asking, "Master, what do you think..."

My meaning was quite clear: I was asking my master whether this person was trustworthy, since my master's "ghost eye" could see through many things.

In this respect, even the advisor might not be as talented as the master.

The master didn't say anything, he just shook his head.

I frowned; it was really strange, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
