Chapter 305: Worship
The Mercedes was very quiet. Sitting inside the car, I couldn't even hear the sound of the engine, only the muffled sound of the waves outside the window.
The car was driving on the seaside avenue, and the street lights slowly flowed into the slanted windshield, with occasional flashes of light.
"What do you mean?" Ron knocked on the back of the chair in front of him.
Anil slipped the CD into the dashboard caddy, and soothing music drifted out from around the headrest, the tunes relaxing.
"We had a war with the Daud Gang," Johnny said.
"Huh?" Ron asked, puzzled.
"To be precise, it was a surprise attack. We ambushed the enemy's top killer."
"What's the result?" Ron said calmly.
"Satish is dead, along with a dozen or so members of Dawood's gang. We also lost a few people, including Sanjay." Johnny's tone was a little sad.
"Why not wait? You can tell the police the whereabouts of those bosses." Ron sighed.
This was the tacit understanding reached between him and Johnny. As long as Ajie had enough information, he could naturally encounter those people.
It is safe and efficient, and will not leave any hidden dangers. They don’t need to be present during the entire process.
"The situation in the federation is very complicated and everyone is furious. The Daud gang has taken over our territory and many of our brothers have lost their lives."
"Can you still control them?" Ron turned to look at him.
"Yes." Johnny lowered his head, a little ashamed.
To be precise, his position and voice in the gang have never been as stable as they are now.
Both radicals and rising stars died in last night's conflict, and now no one would oppose his opinion.
"Keep your people quiet. The Mumbai police will be making a big move soon."
"I know."
The car climbed slowly along the long and gentle slope to the top of Malabar Hill.
Anil turned off the stereo and asked Ron if he wanted to dine at the restaurant he often visited.
Ron smiled and nodded, then signaled to Johnny with his eyes to go get something to eat together.
It was the peak evening traffic season and the residents of Malabar Hill were out strolling around.
They pulled into the parking lot a little way off, where twenty other cars were parked outside Haji's.
Ron likes their scones and comes here every now and then to satisfy his craving.
Most importantly the restaurant is clean and upscale, catering to the wealthy of Malabar Hill.
Hundreds of people gather here every evening to dine, meet, and buy drinks, cigarettes, or desserts.
They took taxis, drove private cars, or walked, and people arrived every hour until dawn.
The curfew rules in other areas of Mumbai do not apply here, and the police are even patrolling not far from the restaurant.
People who live here have privileges, and the law will give them a hard time.
The restaurant was already full, but Ron didn't go in. Instead, he sat down at an open-air wooden table facing the sea.
Guests chatted in Hindi, Marathi, Urdu and English, while waiters rushed back and forth between the counter and the tables, serving drinks, food and plates with skillful and beautiful movements.
Ron was a regular here, and a young foreman came quickly. Anil just gestured, and he nodded vigorously.
It was a rare moment of relaxation, and Anil walked to the counter to get a drink.
Johnny looked at him, young and with the gait of an athlete ready to explode.
He was taller than most of the young men around him, and his posture exuded a remarkable alertness and confidence.
He had very short hair and was dressed in a simple, unremarkable outfit: black ankle boots, black trousers, and a white silk shirt, all of which looked great on him.
Moreover, he wore this outfit with a bit of military heroism. He had strong muscles and his eyes were calm and composed.
Johnny concluded almost instantly that this was a good fighter and no one in the gang could match him.
He must have been trained. Johnny could even imagine how swiftly and efficiently he dealt with the invading enemy.
Some of the guests and all the restaurant staff recognized Anil and spoke to them, smiled at them, or joked with him as he lit a cigarette.
Their gestures were exaggerated, their laughter was louder than it had been a while ago, they jostled each other, reaching out to touch him, as if desperate to win his favor, or even just his attention.
But Ron's place was very quiet, with no guests within a ten-meter radius. They only glanced at him casually when they were chatting and laughing with Anil.
It was as if they wanted to find out from him the mood of some important person. But no matter what the result was, no one dared to rush in here.
The waiter came back with food and drinks, and Anil followed slowly behind him.
The waiter carefully put the tray down and stood there, his eyes pleading with Ron to speak.
"Ramesh, is your father okay?" Ron asked him.
"Okay, bye, he's fine. But...but I have a question." The young waiter answered in Hindi, nervously tugging at the corner of his clothes, folding and unfolding them repeatedly.
"Just say what you want to say, Ramesh."
"It's my brother. Bye. He just graduated. He's very good and studies very hard. He wants to..."
Ron nodded, signaling him to continue. Ramesh, with a surge of confidence, continued speaking in Hindi.
"He's a student at Bombay University and has won an award. He'd really like to work for your company, Sur Electric; he hasn't applied to any other company. I told him he should come here to meet you and ask if you'd give him a chance."
But he was too strong-willed and too concerned with reputation, wanting to rely on his own abilities to get in. You know, he respects you, bye. He was reluctant to speak to you, fearing to disturb you.
If he knew I was bringing this up to you, he would be furious. But seeing you this evening, Master Sulbai, I thought…the gods had brought you here to meet me, and I…I’m sorry to bother you.”
He fell silent, swallowing hard, his fingers holding the metal plate turning pale from the strain.
"I see. I'll have the HR department keep an eye out for his resume, Ramesh." Ron nodded slowly.
Hearing this answer, Ramesh immediately smiled as if he had won the lottery.
Ramesh looked as if he wanted to grab Ron's hand in gratitude, but in the end he bowed and stepped back, mumbling a thank you.
Anil and several of his men ordered fruit salad and coconut yogurt, and after the waiter left, they ate with smacking satisfaction.
Ron tore off some scone and put it in his mouth, then drank some ice drink. He signaled Johnny to be at ease.
Ahead of them, at the foot of the hill, was the seawall, with its stone walkway, which the tide would dip beneath at dawn and dusk, making it passable.
At high tide, it is submerged again, leaving only the bare seawall visible. There is also a small island nearby, which, viewed from the retaining wall on the coastal road, looks like a large ship anchored in the night.
Overhead, the round, flat yellow moon hung high in the clear night sky. A breeze blew from the sea, but it was hot and humid.
Swarms of bats, numbering in the thousands, flew along the wires in the air, like notes on a line of music.
"Tell me, what else is going on besides the gang war?" Ron finished the ice drink in his hand.
"We also caught a man named Kamal."
"Kamal?" Ron thought the voice sounded familiar. "The leader of the Dawood Gang?"
“Yes, the outside world calls him Daoud’s finance minister.”
"Oh, I remember now." Ron took his phone.
Initially, Videocon’s Dutt wanted to stir up trouble, but he was sold out by Kamal in the end.
"Did he personally participate in the gang war last night?"
"It was probably an accident. We were following Satish and ended up cornering him in the warehouse. Kamal was also there; we found him under his desk.
The Federation was originally going to clean it up, but he said he knew you and had helped you before, so I came over to ask.”
"Where are the others?" Ron thought about it.
"It's locked up, and no one knows about it."
"Keep him locked up for now, don't let the news leak out. I need to check his information first."
"Okay." Johnny stood up.
"The situation has been unfavorable for the gang lately, Ajie, you know that. Don't let him get hold of anything on the Federation, otherwise it will be difficult to escape.
Passports, foreign currency, gold, and videotapes are all acceptable, but stay away from anything else. The Mumbai police have hundreds of encounter indicators, and anyone could be on the list.
Johnny paused, then nodded and left. He planned to send a few of his gang members who had tainted their reputations to Goa to hide out for a few days.
The federation will also have to lie low for a few weeks; their chances have run out.
Back at the villa, Ron asked Nia to turn on the TV and tune to Sun TV.
The screen showed a celebration event at the headquarters building of Suer Electric Appliances during the day, and the modern office was clearly visible in front of the camera.
The speeches of the political leaders and the process of Ron's tour were all reported in detail.
As early as two weeks ago, the announcement that ATN Asia Television Network would be renamed "Sun TV" was issued.
Although some of the more than 8 million viewers accumulated in the early stage were lost due to the impact of satellite signals, there are still 5 to 6 million.
Although it seems that its market share is only half of Zee TV's, Ron is not panicking at all, as he has not yet used his trump card.
Sun TV is currently only in trial mode, and viewers can watch it for free. This is done to speed up the team's integration and help them adapt to the new broadcasting process as soon as possible.
In addition to news programs, the TV station also prepared a TV series, which was scheduled to be broadcast in the prime time in the evening.
The film sources were selected by Mary and her team, and Ron did not ask about it. He trusted their professional vision.
In addition to news and TV dramas, Sun TV also prepared a quiz show "Sur! Raise Your Hand!"
The process is very simple. Two hosts ask questions in front of the camera and then the audience answers.
How to answer? Call the TV station's hotline.
Usually there will be twenty seconds of thinking time for each question, and then the host will let the director's desk receive the incoming call.
If the audience answers correctly, there will be various gifts, ranging from cash to various home appliances sponsored by Soul Electric.
The scope of the questions mainly focuses on social encyclopedias, including daily knowledge, current affairs, geography, history, and even Bollywood entertainment news, covering everything.
Anyone can participate, there is no threshold, it all depends on your hand speed and luck.
This program is simple to produce and highly interactive, making it very suitable for TV stations to use to "warm up the audience."
If the pilot program goes well, we will consider making it into a large-scale competition program later.
Influenced by his conversation with Johnny today, Ron even thought that Sun TV should try crime-related special reports.
I'm about to go find Ajie, maybe I can get something from him.
