When no one came over, Yan Shi would look around by herself. Occasionally, she would actually see something, but it would always flash by and disappear before she could catch it.
As dinnertime approached, the streets became less crowded. When Zhuang Zhao went to buy food, a young girl, not yet twenty, sat down in front of Yan Shi.
She pointed to the marriage symbol on the banner, then pointed to herself.
Yan Shi used a translator to communicate and asked her to write a character.
The girl waved her hand, indicating that she couldn't write.
If you can't write, you can only use your master's clumsy method.
"Through numerous obstacles, they will eventually become a couple." The divination is favorable; the red thread of fate is steady, indicating mutual affection.
The girl left with a smile, and before leaving, she asked Yan Shi if she could take the sweet potato with her.
Yan Shi nodded and handed her a large sweet potato. As the girl took it, her hand touched Yan Shi's. In that instant, an image flashed through Yan Shi's mind: the girl being stuffed into a sack by a man.
Before each country they enter, the survey team educates its members about the local customs, traditions, and taboos. The most unique thing about Gigi Country is that there is no concept of a bachelor. In Gigi Country, men can put sacks over unmarried girls on the street. Once a girl is put in a sack, she is his wife, and her parents will not object.
The country of Jiji is also a polygamous country, which means that men can just kidnap women on the street, as long as they can give a dowry to the woman's parents, the amount of which is about the same as the price of a cow.
The girl's destined partner is definitely not the one who will put a sack over her head.
Yan Shi was a little worried, but by the time she caught up, the girl had already disappeared.
Yan Shi was preoccupied. She packed up her stall and went home. Seeing that she was in a bad mood, neither of the adults nor the two children dared to speak loudly.
By the time Yan realized the atmosphere was too serious, they were almost at their accommodation.
"I was lost in thought, I wasn't angry." Yan Shi turned around and saw that all three of them looked cautious, just like they always did when she was angry.
"Is that the little girl from earlier?"
Yan Shi told Zhuang Zhao what she had seen.
"You're having second thoughts again. The ending was good, wasn't it? Just let things take their course."
"The ending may seem good, but we may have paid a much higher price in the long run."
There are many things more important than love in a girl's life.
"Leaving aside the chaotic customs of Gigi Kingdom, there's nothing you can do just because you're a fortune teller."
"Yes, I'm thinking of even crazier ideas."
"for example?"
"For example, if Xingguo conquers Jijiguo, it will implement Xingguo's laws and systems."
"It's not impossible, but it's not something that one or two people can decide."
"That's right. It has to be valuable for it to be worth conquering. Otherwise, we'll just be infamous for wasting manpower and resources coming all this way. We'll probably be cursed to death by the people of Xingguo first."
When a person is sick, there are doctors; but when a country is sick, who will cure it?
On her last day in Guangzhou, Yan Shi packed up her stall early and on her way back, she saw the girl who had come to her for fortune-telling that day stumbling and running towards her.
"What should I do? What can I do? Didn't we agree on the outcome?" She grabbed Yan Shi's arm, and it was clear that something had gone wrong.
Yan Shi led her to a corner and listened to her tell the story from the beginning.
After she returned home that day, her parents talked to her about her marriage. She had someone she liked, but her parents didn't want her to marry that person. They wanted to marry her off to a wealthier family, even though that family already had several wives.
No one expected that when she went out to buy things the next day, she was covered in a sack. The man carried her to his house. It turned out that he was the man her parents had chosen.
His family tried to persuade her to accept, but she refused. However, it was to no avail. After his family gave her parents a dowry, she was considered his fiancée.
She escaped suddenly to demand an answer from Yan Shi.
“I don’t want to marry him. He marries a woman every year, but only two or three of them survive. The others either jump into wells or disappear. His backyard is probably full of bones.”
"If I have no choice but to marry him, I'd rather die."
Yan Shi held her shoulders to calm her down.
"A good result is the final result. The process will definitely not be so smooth. But if you die, all of that is lost."
"That's right. Even if it means death, we have to keep him here and prevent him from harming others."
Yan Shi: That's not what I meant either.
"Or what if you run away from the wedding?"
“If I run away from the wedding, my family will definitely send my sister over, otherwise they will have to return the betrothal gifts, and they will absolutely not return the betrothal gifts.”
"Forget it, I accept my fate. Thank you for listening to me. Your country must be wonderful. I wish I could have been born there."
Yan Shi watched helplessly as she jumped back into the fire pit.
"What can I do?" she murmured to herself, only to be answered by the increasingly chilly autumn wind.
Back home, Yan Shi didn't sleep well either. In the middle of the night, he finally fell asleep but was woken up by a commotion. His colleague on night watch was banging on the door. "Zombies have entered Guangzhou!"
Yan Shi woke up Yifan and Yangyang and helped them put on their coats. After meeting up with his colleagues, he waited for the team leader to give instructions.
Yan Shi thought the leader would give the order to set off, but to his surprise, the order was to stay put.
If she doesn't stay where she is, can she go out for a bit?
Unlike the Star Kingdom's safe zone, Guangzhou is not impregnable, and it lacks sorcerers and bullets effective against zombies. It relies on simple physical attacks and alien damage.
Yan Shi walked through the people of Gigi Kingdom fighting zombies and headed straight for the place where he had talked to the girl earlier.
She didn't know where the girl was, and going there was just a chance.
She had a vague feeling that these sudden zombies were there to rescue her. Could it be that the person she liked was a mutant?
No way, didn't they say before that her parents didn't approve? It must be someone her parents know.
As Yan Shi searched for the girl, his mind wandered. He wished Zhuang Zhao were here; the puppet bird would greatly improve the efficiency of finding people.
He climbed to a high place to get a panoramic view, but unexpectedly bumped into a female mutant.
The female mutant sat on the wall, watching the chaotic battle on the ground with an expressionless face, her staring eyes vacant and ruthless.
When Yan Shi first noticed her, her heart skipped a beat, and she almost slipped and fell.
The female mutant glanced at her indifferently, then looked down, a smile playing on her lips, as if she had seen something that made her happy.
Yan Shi followed her gaze and saw three zombies devouring a man. The man was spitting blood and foam, his eyes rolled back, and he was clearly dying.
Yan Shi suddenly realized something and hurriedly looked around to verify it. Sure enough, the zombies were all attacking the man.
Could this guy next to me be the leader of these zombies?
Unfortunately, the language barrier prevented them from communicating, otherwise she would have really wanted to hear her story.
Yan Shi stood up and looked around for the girl, and she actually found her.
Only one zombie broke into the large courtyard. Men and women rushed in and pushed and shoved each other. One after another, women were pushed out, crying and screaming. The zombie gradually approached, its sharp howls piercing human eardrums and even forcing the brain to resonate.
The zombies stopped, drool dripping from their gaping mouths onto the woman slumped on the ground.
They slowly turned their heads and swiftly pounced on the man who had been observing the situation and hiding himself behind the woman.
