Chapter 106 The Matchmaker Chapter (Part 4)

"I was raped by him when I was a teenager and that's why I married him."

Here, there is no legal protection for rape victims. Unmarried women can only marry their rapists, while married women who are raped will be imprisoned for 12 years for adultery.

“I’ve had three children, and each time I felt like I wouldn’t survive. Living here, I’m constantly worried about being beaten and dying.”

“When I was little, I thought the world was like this. But when I saw foreign women who came to visit, I realized that the world is not like this. In other places, women can study, work, protect their legal rights, and stand on equal footing with men, unlike them who can only accept ignorance, violence, and unreasonable prohibitions.”

"I wish I could have been born in another country, at least I would want to have my own destiny in my own hands."

The woman's stagnant eyes suddenly lit up.

"My name is Labia, I hope you can remember it."

“I will, Rabiya.”

The rain stopped, and they got the medicine. Yan Shi left a box of fever reducers for the woman, and only went back with Zhuang Zhao after watching her leave.

Aofu Guoyao has always been quite expensive. Even common medicines cost several days' worth of meals, so poor people rarely buy medicine when they are sick.

Yan Shi's good mood was easily affected.

"Why are all these places like this awful place? Can't anyone have a good mood?"

Yan Shi kicked a pebble at his feet, sending it flying. The pebble, about the size of a fingertip, flew out and hit the man in front of him.

The man turned around, and Yan Shi glared back. She was getting angry just looking at these men and wished she could start a fight to show them that women weren't born to be submissive.

The man turned his head away again, whether out of consideration for Yan Shi's foreign status or because he was intimidated by her fierce gaze, it was unclear.

Zhuang Zhao found Yan Shi's puffed-up face both cute and worried that she might hurt herself from being angry.

"Alright, alright, there are plenty of people suffering in the world. There are always various forms of oppression, discrimination, and injustice. We are not saviors and cannot save all living beings."

Zhuang Zhao pulled Yan Shi into his arms and patted her shoulder to comfort her.

"If I can't see it, so be it. But if I see it with my own eyes and don't do anything about it, I'll feel uneasy."

"He was destined to worry about the country and its people, and to be burdened with mental and physical toil."

"How about we go find that guy and get our revenge?" Zhuang Zhao suggested.

"I think it's a good idea."

Because the Star Kingdom is going to cooperate with the Aufu Kingdom, the survey team needs to visit every town in the Aufu Kingdom in detail to collect information on mineral resources, transportation conditions, and political conflicts.

It is conservatively estimated that the team will stay for half a month. The professionals on the investigation team spend their days collecting information and their nights analyzing data and writing summaries. They all have dark circles under their eyes, oily faces, and look as haggard as refugees.

Yan Shi, Zhuang Zhao, and the others were not idle either. They ran errands, kept watch at night, assisted with tasks, and even helped organize documents. For the first time since they came out, they experienced a workload comparable to the busy season and overtime work at the company before the apocalypse.

Work can indeed make you forget a lot of troubles. When you're overwhelmed by data and information, you don't have time to think about anything else. By the time you finally get over the busy period, it's already seven or eight days later when you think about it again.

Yan Shi took three days off, wanting to rest a bit, take Yi Fan and Yang Yang out for a walk, and maybe set up a stall or something.

Although she claimed to be setting up a stall, she didn't expect any woman to dare sit down and ask her about marriage prospects.

If it's about destiny, most people would probably be more interested.

Yan Shi chose a place with a lot of foot traffic to observe the various aspects of life. Every now and then, he would see women being beaten for all sorts of bizarre reasons, such as losing their shoes while walking, someone staring at them, or sneezing...

Sometimes you can see a group of hooligans standing in the corner sunbathing, whistling at passing women, surrounding a lone woman, and then dragging her into a corner.

Having seen so much, Yan Shi had become numb, until a mass execution of over a thousand people was to be carried out in the central square. All those executed were women of varying ages, convicted of prostitution.

Yan didn't go to see it herself; she only found out later from her colleagues talking about it.

"This isn't just oppression, this is killing women."

"Yeah, how can there still be places like this at this hour?"

"The women here aren't even considered birthing machines; they're like chickens and ducks raised at home, to be slaughtered or killed at will."

"Let's not talk about this anymore, it's upsetting. Didn't they say this morning that a group of zombies was coming? Where are they?"

"At a constant speed, we should arrive around tomorrow morning."

"I heard that the zombies in Aofu are very powerful, and they come in waves almost every month. Therefore, the walls here are all built very solidly, whether it is the courtyard walls of each household or the city walls."

Surprisingly, this simple and clumsy method is quite effective; the fewer people who are killed, the lower the probability of the zombies evolving into a different species.

Sensing the tension among the city dwellers, the investigation team temporarily suspended its field missions and waited for the crisis to pass.

Yan Shi was now completely free. She didn't want to go out, so she stayed at home teaching Yi Fan and Yang Yang to read and write.

Yangyang has many fixed habits, and it takes a lot of effort to establish them.

When Yan Shi saw Zhuang Zhao carving toys for Yangyang and his two children with a carving knife, he suddenly felt a sense of family.

"Honey~ I love you so much, I love you more and more." Yan Shi reached out her hand and acted coquettishly towards Zhuang Zhao.

Zhuang Zhao put down his carving knife and came over to hug her. He was no longer the skinny boy he used to be, but a strong man who could easily lift Yan Shi up to do squats.

Occasionally, Yan Shi would reminisce about Zhuang Zhao, who evoked sympathy and pity back then.

After three days of vigilance without any movement, Yan Shi was bored and restless in the house. There was nothing to do or eat, and the prices were exorbitant with limited variety.

If it were just her and Zhuang Zhao, they could protect themselves anywhere without worrying about safety. But now they have two children, so even if they can't move an inch, they dare not leave for too long.

The zombies roamed outside the city, creating an oppressive atmosphere as if a storm was brewing.

The next night, Yan Shi was woken up again while he was fast asleep.

"Zombies have invaded the city!"

"Didn't they say they couldn't enter the city?" The Austrian government had assured them before.

"The city gate was opened inexplicably. It is said that a woman secretly opened the city gate."

Why?

"What else could be the reason for opening the city gates at this point? They just want everyone to die together."

Can I say that I understand her?

"I can do that too. Since I'm living a life worse than death, in dire straits, it's better for us all to die together."

The members of the investigation team gathered together and gossiped, completely out of place with the tense atmosphere around them.

Yan Shi spotted a familiar face in the distance and quickly got up to get a closer look. Sure enough, it was Rabiya.

She turned into a zombie and joined the horde, pouncing on anyone she saw.

"These zombies are much fiercer than those in Gigi Country. Will we all be wiped out if this continues? If we are all wiped out, will it affect our country's trade?"

"It's unlikely that they'd all be wiped out."

"If the situation becomes truly critical, the country's government will ask us for help. Our people will also contact us; if they don't, it means the situation is still stable."

"Then don't panic."
