"I'm not just all show and no substance," Yan Nuan muttered to herself.
In short, Yan Shi allowed the boy to stay temporarily. Noticing that the boy liked water, he put a large bucket of water for him in the storage room.
Despite the language barrier, they had to figure things out on their own. Yan Nuan laid out all the food she could find in front of the boy to see what he liked to eat.
Yan Nuan was afraid he wouldn't know they were food, so she deliberately ate a bite of each one in front of him.
Seeing this, the boy tried a bite of everything. If he thought something was delicious, he ate it all; if he didn't like it, he spat it out.
Yan Nuan: He's like a child. What if we can't communicate? We can't really keep him as a pet, can we? Although she had initially kept him with the intention of keeping him as a pet.
Yan Shi wasn't idle either. He asked around to see if anyone knew the origins of this mysterious boy. Was he a foreigner or an alien? He couldn't be the only one without his own kind, could he?
Coupled with his obsession with water, if she hadn't seen no scales on him, she would have suspected he was a merman.
The legend of merfolk in the South China Sea has always existed. Since sorcerers and magic can actually exist, the appearance of merfolk is not impossible.
But speculation is just speculation; without evidence, it's all nonsense.
The gene sequence comparison results for Catherine are in. The similarity between the teenager's gene sequence and that of fish is much higher than that between human and fish genes.
Combined with his affinity for water, Catherine had a bold conjecture.
"The ocean nurtured the first life, the origin of all life, but the genetic similarity between humans and fish is not very high. However, the boy's genetic sequence is subtly between that of humans and fish. Does that mean that he may be the result of another branch in human evolutionary history, the evolution of marine humans?"
"This theory requires a lot of corroboration, which cannot be accomplished by a few people, nor can it be supported by the analysis of just one subject, the boy. In short, the most pressing issue right now should be finding similar individuals to the boy. If he is the only one without any others, it can only be said that the theory of genetic mutation is more credible."
"Although I am interested, the project is too massive and may not be a problem that I can solve in my lifetime. I am not a scientist who is obsessed with academics or exploring the world, so I do not intend to devote myself to research."
"Just raise it however you like, or if you don't want to, you can send it back to the seaside. There's a reason why it's there."
Yan Shi had no intention of researching it, probably because he was getting old and not as curious about the world as young people were.
Yan Nuan looked at the boy in front of her who did nothing but eat and sleep, and her head ached. She felt that he was not worried about her safety at all. Even wild animals would feel uneasy if brought back by humans.
Another question is whether she should teach him to speak? He seems lazy all the time, as if he doesn't have any trouble communicating with others.
Five days have passed since the boy woke up, and he has visibly gained weight.
I've already received my university acceptance letter, and school starts in two weeks. Although university doesn't require students to live on campus, I know I won't have much time to observe him after he starts school, and I can't take him to school.
This was the first time in over a decade that Yan Nuan had been so distressed.
Before she could have any more time to worry, a stranger suddenly showed up at her house. The first thing he said when he opened the door was, "You picked up a boy on the beach, didn't you?"
"Who are you?" Yan Shi looked him over carefully. She had only mentioned this matter to a few people. If they had contacted others, they would have definitely told her.
“My name is You Wu, and I am his uncle. I am here today to take him back.”
"Uncle? Is there any proof?"
"Isn't his recognition of me the best proof?"
“If he could speak, he could certainly prove it.”
“My nephew has lived in our hometown since he was a child. The local dialect is the only one he can understand. It’s normal that he can’t understand it. Let us meet him. He can see many things clearly at a glance.”
That's the logic, so Yan Shi had no choice but to let them meet. Yan Nuan went to call the boy, and Yan Shi poured water for the man.
"Slap the card!" The boy exclaimed excitedly upon seeing the man, clearly indicating that the two knew each other.
They were there to pick up the boy, and Yan Shi couldn't stop them. Yan Nuan was reluctant to part with him and packed a lot of food for him to take with her.
Now I have no worries, but I feel empty inside.
The man left a box of seafood as a token of gratitude. Yan Shi looked at her depressed daughter and patted her shoulder to comfort her.
"Have your dad cook a whole fish feast tonight, eat as much as you like."
Seeing that Yan Nuan had been in a low mood for several days, Yan Shi felt bad. However, the fact that the boy had been taken away meant that there were clues to investigate, and she didn't believe that she couldn't dig out something.
She wasn't good at this, but she knew people who were, like Su Yaozu.
"Okay, I'll give you an answer in a couple of days."
"Alright, don't be so down. I've asked around for you. If he stays in District Seven, you'll have plenty of opportunities to see him again."
"Really? I didn't want to meet him. We spent several days together, and as soon as his family arrived, he went back with them without even glancing back at me. Even an ingrate has more conscience than him."
Some people come and go in a hurry, and you can't keep them; others are entangled and you can't get rid of them. Just let things take their course.
"Let's not talk about him anymore. Do you think I should stay at school or go home? Staying at school will allow me to make more friends, while going home means better food and a more comfortable place to live."
Where is An'an?
"He doesn't want to live on campus."
“Living on campus is fine, but if I go home, I'll have even less time to interact with my classmates. Without roommates, I'll basically be a lone wolf. University classmates are different from junior and senior high school classmates. We might not even be in class together, and most of them might not even talk to each other after graduation.”
"There are weekends around, so it's convenient to go home."
