"What did you mean by that? A challenge?" Chang Ge asked impatiently after getting into the car.
"Shouldn't we first be curious about when Tong Ying met that woman?" Zhong Ling rarely spoke up.
"Could it be the day I went grocery shopping? No wonder I didn't come back and the groceries were delivered by someone else."
Tong Ying had no choice but to tell them what happened that day.
"You should smear her face so she'll just keep causing trouble all the time."
"Even if we don't solve 301, we at least have to deal with Wu Qianying."
"How do we solve this? We cripple one of her hands here, and then we can find someone to take revenge on her."
“Once and for all,” Zhong Ling said decisively, and everyone fell silent.
As much as you hate someone, not everyone can bring themselves to kill them without accumulating enough anger.
Yan Shi and Zhuang Zhao were not traveling together; they continued waiting for the bus at the bus stop with the boy.
Because Yan Shi was still quite concerned about what he had just said, she kept glancing at him, trying to figure out what was going on.
Zhuang Zhao noticed Yan Shi's concern immediately and even had the puppet scratch her palm, but Yan Shi didn't seem to relent.
Did she think the guy was good-looking? His yellowish hair was obviously undyed in a long time, with only the ends still having a yellowish tinge. His features were fairly regular, and he had a row of sparkling earrings on his left ear. He wasn't dressed properly either; it was already winter, yet he was only wearing a short-sleeved shirt, with his ankles exposed. He must be freezing.
The boy felt the girl's curious prying eyes and the boy next to her's disgusted gaze, and then he remembered that the two of them had just been mixed in with Team 404.
Are you from Team 404?
“Sort of, why?” Yan Shi immediately went into defensive mode.
"Hello, my name is Su Yaozu, Yaozu as in bringing glory to one's ancestors."
"Oh." Yan Shi showed no intention of introducing himself.
"Don't be so wary of me, I'm on Tong Ying's side." The car he was waiting for arrived, and he waved goodbye to Yan Shi before getting in.
"Huh? You're on Tong Ying's side? Why? Because of love?"
Yan Shi wasn't too surprised, after all, what he said to Tong Ying back then was inexplicable. He just didn't understand why novels didn't depict opposing relationships of love and hate.
"Maybe." Realizing that neither of them had any ulterior motives towards each other, Zhuang Zhao felt much better. He beckoned with his finger, making the little puppet in Yan Shi's hand continue rolling around.
He wanted to become that puppet, held in Yan Shi's hands, rolling around in her palms, and being controlled by her.
When Yan Shi got back, she forgot all about Su Yaozu and what he had said. She did laundry, changed the bed sheets, and took a nap. In order to celebrate Grandpa Yuan's birthday, she switched shifts with the night shift auntie, and she still had to go to work later.
I'm so tired.
The supermarket wasn't doing very well. On quiet days, you could go two or three hours without seeing anyone come to buy anything. The quieter it was, the sleepier you got, and you would doze off right away.
The door was pushed open, and the bell on the door jingled. Yan Shi was startled, and his drowsiness immediately vanished.
"These are the leftover scraps from making the fruit salad. If you don't mind, feel free to take them." This was the manager of the dessert shop next door, a clean-cut and sunny young man.
Yan Shi and Tong Ying had been to the shop next door a few times. It had cakes, bread, fruit drinks, and fruit salads, which were quite popular with girls. Even in the apocalypse, desserts still had a market, although the turnover had decreased significantly.
"That's great, thank you."
"Why are you working the night shift today? Is something wrong, Auntie?"
"No, I had something to do this afternoon, so I switched shifts with my aunt."
Yan Shi opened the lid directly. Inside was a box of Oreo cream and a fruit salad. Based on the current prices in District 7, this palm-sized box was equivalent to two pounds of pork ribs or ten pounds of rice.
"By the time you get off work it will be midnight, are you brave enough to go home alone?"
"Of course I dare! What's there to be afraid of? Besides, someone's coming to pick me up."
Is he your boyfriend?
"It's my roommate."
"You live near the research institute in the east, right? I live there too. I'll walk with you; it's on my way."
The fruit salad in my mouth suddenly didn't taste so good anymore.
"Okay, but why are you going home so late? You usually get off work pretty early."
"My roommate brought his girlfriend over and told me to go back later."
Yan Shi, who was well-read, understood immediately.
"You might as well stay at the hotel."
"With this temperature in the store, I'm afraid I won't see the sun tomorrow morning."
"Alright, I'm going back now. Don't forget to go back together tonight."
"Okay, bye-bye."
Yan Shi ate intermittently, always feeling that he had ulterior motives, either having feelings for her or wanting to harm her.
She couldn't handle either situation, nor did she have the patience to deal with it. She would tell Tong Ying next time that she wouldn't go to his house.
Zhuang Zhao arrived at 11 o'clock, and Yan Shi even brought some late-night snacks. With Zhuang Zhao keeping them company and talking, an hour passed in no time.
Yan Shi mentioned to Zhuang Zhao that the manager of the shop next door wanted to go back together.
Has he contacted you before?
"No, it was the first time. It's just that Tong Ying and I often went to his house to buy small cakes, and occasionally he would give us a cupcake or something."
"I thought he was a pretty good person, but after he did this, I'm quite worried."
"Then let's stay away. Chaotic times are full of perverts, who knows who might be one of them."
"But if you're talking about the neighbors next door, it's awkward since you see them all the time."
"That's true. Otherwise, you should consider changing jobs, or just quit. You'll have food and drink, so you won't go hungry."
"No, everything is fine except for him. Who knows what other jobs would be like?"
The male student on the night shift was slightly surprised to see Yan Shi chatting and laughing with another boy when he came in.
