Chapter 45 Zombie Self-Destruction

It was unsafe to travel at night, so we stopped to rest after dark and took turns keeping watch. We originally planned to arrive the next night, but unexpectedly, something went wrong on the first night.

Around 10 p.m., the low growls of zombies suddenly came from the wilderness where there was no light except for the stars and moon. Han Mo was on night watch at this time. He hurriedly woke up the others and put talismans around the RV.

The zombie detector showed that several zombies were coming from the northwest at a considerable speed. They were clearly not wandering aimlessly, but they were not coming for them either.

Are there other humans nearby?

They pulled out a life detector that had been stored away for ages, and sure enough, there were living people within a five-kilometer radius.

"They're not here for us, go to sleep." Bu Ke yawned and headed back to his room.

"Let's go take a look; maybe they're from the Divine Medicine Clan," Han Mo suggested.

Everyone thought it wasn't impossible. Although the Divine Medicine Clan couldn't possibly be afraid of zombies, it would be a waste to miss out on this opportunity.

The small road, which deviated from the main road, was winding and rugged. It was pitch black and the road was difficult to see, making it really difficult for the RV to travel. In the end, we simply got out of the vehicle and walked.

Originally, there was only one person to guard the car, but it wouldn't be appropriate to leave anyone behind, so we decided to work together.

Shining a flashlight, I groped my way forward following the directions on the zombie detector, only to run right into a zombie.

Han Mo prepared for battle with a talisman between his fingertips, but unexpectedly, the zombie exploded as soon as it got close. Blood foam and rotten flesh rained down on him. Bu Ke was the fastest to dodge and was also the first to bend over and vomit profusely.

Hanmo was dumbfounded. He was standing at the very front and got soaked to the bone. He was a mild germaphobe and just wanted to end it all.

Zhuang Zhao was already standing in front of Yan Shi. He had been on guard since he noticed the unusual smell of the zombie. The moment the zombie exploded, he turned around and pulled Yan Shi into his arms.

Even so, Yan Shi was still filthy, which shows how terrible the scene must have been.

"Did anyone do it?"

"I haven't even started yet."

"So this counts as a self-destruction?"

"He's a warlock, isn't he?"

"I don't know."

"Shouldn't we be looking for survivors? Why should we care about why they self-destructed?" Bu Ke ran a distance and breathed in some fresh air before he could speak.

"How about we go back and take a shower and change our clothes first?"

Those who couldn't stand the smell threw off their coats, preferring to freeze rather than wear them again.

Yan Shi only got a little bit of the splatter on her pants and shoes, which was fine after a little cleaning. Besides, she was already used to the smell of zombies.

Zhuang Zhao could only smell a faint odor from the living zombies and couldn't fully comprehend the agony of others who were suffocating from the stench.

Others: You two are so annoying, I feel really resentful!

After returning to the RV, taking a shower, and changing clothes, the location of the living person shown on the life detector remained unchanged. The group then searched for the location and finally stood in front of a village called Peach Blossom Sky.

The village entrance was blocked by wood and tree roots, and high walls were built all around it, which looked like defensive fortifications built by survivors.

"It doesn't seem to be the work of the Divine Medicine Clan."

"Let's go in and take a look."

"We can't let a monster suddenly appear, can we?"

“Monsters aren’t scary, it’s the non-human creatures that are frightening,” Bu Ke said sarcastically.

Those zombies just now ran from this direction, and the sudden self-destruction might have been the work of someone inside.

"Just in case, don't let them all go in."

"We'll go in, you two stay here." Yan Shi was gossipy and didn't want to wait outside.

In Yan Shi's view, Bu Qing and his sister were not good enough at protecting themselves, so leaving them outside would provide support.

"What about you? Go in or stay?" Yan Shi asked Han Mo.

Han Mo was caught in a dilemma. His mission was to protect Bu Qing and his sister and help them find the Divine Medicine Clan. Not to mention, Han Yan had specifically instructed him to look after Zhuang Zhao. More importantly, he was also curious and wanted to know the reason for the zombie's self-destruction.

"You can stay here. I'll contact you later." Seeing his hesitation, Yan Shi decided to make the decision for him, since he was there to protect Bu Ke and his sister.

"Let's go together," Bu Ke said, worried that Yan Shi might be in danger.

"Nothing will happen." After saying that, Yan Shi and Zhuang Zhao jumped over the simple fence and walked inside hand in hand.

“I have a bad feeling. Let’s follow them,” Bu Ke said to her brother.

"That's a safer approach."

"If anything happens to my sister, you have to compensate me." Bu Ke sat on the tree stump angrily, listening intently to the voice coming from Yan Shi's surgical ear in his pocket.

The village was quiet, without even a light. The two followed the location of the life detector, but unexpectedly ended up outside the village.

"Where is it hidden?" Yan Shi had just stepped into a mud pit and was furious.

"When you see someone, don't say anything, I'll make it up."

"You also think these people aren't good people?"

"No good person can survive in this place. Besides zombies, you also have to be wary of other people."

"Yeah, but I always feel like there might be some pitiful little thing that makes my heart ache."

"Like me."

"Is that so?"

"Let's make this clear first: I'm willing to help, but you're not allowed to keep them around. I don't want anyone to follow in my footsteps."

"That's right, I have a family."

"Besides, not just anyone can catch my eye."

Bu Ke, who was eavesdropping: Aren't you two annoying!

After leaving the village and heading up the mountain, we finally found a valley, the entrance of which was completely blocked by a three-meter-high iron railing.

"Is anyone home? We're here to ask for directions," Zhuang Zhao called out, carefully controlling his voice so as not to wake them up in the middle of the night.

"Who is it? Where did you come from?" A gruff voice came from behind the railing, but it was too dark to see where he was.

"We came from District 7 and were heading to District 9, but we got lost. We saw that there were people around here, so we thought we'd come and ask for directions."
