“Superpower loss of control doesn’t only happen from overuse of superpowers; it can also happen from malnutrition. Yan Shi is different from others; she is a parasitic type.”
"How do you know all this?" Zhuang Zhao asked.
"Of course it's from experiments. District 9 is full of aliens, there's plenty of data. As long as you're willing to spend the money, what kind of data can't you collect?"
"Does malnutrition require eating zombies?"
"Yes, at its current level of maturity, it can't even fill the gaps between zombies. It's best to find a different species that can last for a while."
"What if there are no more mutant species in the future? Will the mutants and zombies still have a symbiotic relationship?"
"It will be fine once it grows into a mature form. Even if there are no zombies to eat, it won't threaten the host's life; it will just have a weaker resistance."
How can you tell if it's malnourished or overfed?
"Judging from the color, this light red indicates a need for nutritional supplementation, while dark red likely indicates an overabundance of nutrients. It's quite convenient that we can observe this from the outside."
"The temperature has dropped a bit. You guys stay here and keep watch. I'm going back now."
“We need to give my sister some extra nutrition,” Bu Ke said.
"We need to capture them alive."
"But even if we catch them, it's not easy to bring them in."
"I'm going out of town to take a look. Please take care of her for me," Zhuang Zhao said, quickly packing a box before heading out.
Bu Ke and Si Yue looked at each other, in their eyes Zhuang Zhao going out of the city to find the alien species was simply courting death.
"You're coming too."
“I’m not going. Can’t he just show off? Besides, if he loses me, he can take over.”
“If something happens to him, my sister will definitely be sad, and she might even break off all ties with you.”
"Then I won't go either."
"Fine, I'll tell my sister you stood by and watched someone die."
"How could a child have such malicious thoughts?"
"Born that way."
Si Yue glared at her fiercely a few times, then turned and chased after her.
"If anything happens, go find Catherine."
"How did my sister manage to be so infatuated with this big shot? She never even gave him a kind look. Men's hearts are unfathomable."
Jiang Lang stood to one side the whole time, neither speaking nor moving, unless instructed by Bu Ke.
Entry and exit to the second district are strictly controlled, and an entry and exit permit is required. Si Yue went to Su Ke again and took the permit to leave the city.
I drove along the road for two hours, but I didn't see a single zombie on the zombie radar.
"This won't work, we need to think of another way," Si Yue said impatiently.
Zhuang Zhao: If it's not there, it's not there. Zombies don't just appear because you use your brain.
Three hours later, Bu Ke called to say that Yan Shi had woken up, his high fever had subsided, but he was still a little hot.
"Let's go back for now. Don't you have puppet birds? Release a few outside the city and look for zombies. Come out when you find them."
"You drive." Zhuang Zhao and Si Yue switched seats. He sat in the back as the puppet bird. He didn't need wood; with his current skill level, he could use the kind of waterproof origami he made.
As he hurried back, he released the puppet birds, calculating his limit: a total of forty-four.
Since the construction of the impregnable fortress, District Two has never experienced a zombie attack. Zombies will starve to death if they can't eat people, so he seriously suspects that there may still be zombies around District Two.
If not, hurry up and leave Zone 2 with Yan Shi.
Bu Ke relayed Catherine's words to Yan Shi, who felt his worldview crumble when he heard that his black hole was malnourished.
One minute it's malnourished, the next it's overeating. Could it really be a life form? The more I think about it, the scarier it gets.
Yan Shi's fever had subsided, but her cold wasn't fully cured. She had a runny nose, was drowsy, had a dry and itchy throat, frequent urination, felt weak, and had a poor appetite. In short, she felt unwell and unhappy.
Zhuang Zhao warmed her stomach with his hands, but there was no breeze on this hot day, and she felt like she was about to get heat rash.
All Zhuang Zhao could do was spend more time with her and cook her different kinds of food.
The day after falling ill, Zhuang Zhao, without the puppet bird, found the zombies. Si Yue and Zhuang Zhao drove over and wiped them out in one go. Catherine then drove Yan Shi outside the city, where they swallowed more than a dozen zombies. The red line on his left arm became bright red.
On the fourth day after falling ill, Yan Shi finally recovered and looked much fatter.
"It's rare to see someone gain so much weight from just a cold," Catherine joked, crossing her arms.
Now we're just waiting for the typhoon to pass.
For several days in a row, the sky was clear and cloudless, and it became increasingly stuffy. The day before Yan Shi recovered from his illness, it started to rain, from showers to downpours, and it just wouldn't stop.
Thunder roared and winds howled; even with thorough preparations, accidents could still happen.
Lightning damaged the power source, which happened to be the power grid. The seemingly impenetrable barrier was breached, and the heavy rain and urban flooding made the repairs even more difficult. It took a full six hours to restore power.
At the same time, alarms blared throughout Zone 2, indicating that zombies had entered.
The Second District army immediately mobilized and rushed towards the location where the alarm sounded, but the environment greatly affected their speed. By the time the army arrived, only wreckage floating on the water and a few sluggish zombies remained.
One second they seemed dull and slow, the next they all became sprint champions, rushing towards people like mad dogs.
The destruction of District Two has begun.
Yan Shi and the others only realized something was wrong when the zombies got close enough to them to sense it.
Si Yue happily rushed out, setting fires everywhere as if he were having a blast. It was still raining, so there was no need to worry about starting a fire. However, he could no longer burn entire areas at once; he had to attack single targets and take into account the wind direction and the effects of the rain. This increased the difficulty and reduced the damage, but thankfully it didn't affect his nature.
Catherine didn't participate in the barbaric games. She sat by the window drinking red tea, and occasionally, someone oblivious would throw a scalpel, instantly decapitating the corpse. Completely reduced to a corpse.
Yan Ye followed behind Si Yue, acting as his third eye, specifically responsible for those Si Yue hadn't noticed or those he planned to ambush.
Zhuang Zhao, Yan Shi, Bu Ke, and Jiang Lang acted together. Zhuang Zhao didn't want Yan Shi to catch a cold again, so she only let her lend a hand under the cover.
Bu Ke led Jiang Lang to a spot with a good view so they could practice shooting at long distances, using zombies as targets.
Jiang Liuer and Jin Xi also went out to help. Jiang Liuer's water-controlling clan was like a fish in water in the rain, as if heaven was helping them.
By manipulating the rainwater to increase its speed, it can directly cleave zombies into dozens of pieces. It can also manipulate the accumulated water to climb, rush, and sweep across the area, preventing any of the zombies from advancing even half a step. All that can be reached are flat, unrecognizable pieces of corpses.
Jinxi's metal manipulation skills weren't as popular. She could control anything related to metal, such as roadside trash cans, roadside railings, and nearby billboards. With a flick of her finger, she could lift them up and smash them down on areas with many zombies. Or she could use them together as doorkeepers, making her both offensive and defensive, flexible and convenient.
I'm not sure about other places, but the streets near their hotel were all cleaned up.
Si Yue wasn't done having fun and kept charging forward until he received a call from Su Ke, which calmed him down.
"Can you bring reinforcements? I'll send a car to pick you up."
"no problem."
Si Yue turned and walked back, beckoning Jiang Liuer to come with him, while Jin Xi stayed behind.
He had to leave at least one strong one behind, otherwise he was really afraid that even if they won an overwhelming victory in the front, their rear would be raided.
