Chapter Seventy-Seven: The Beast Taming Clan

Yao Tang looked at Bu Ke and Yan Ye. Bu Ke noticed Yan Shi's affection for Yao Tang and felt a pang of jealousy. He didn't give Yao Tang a friendly look.

Yan Ye nodded to Yao Tang. His Yan family and the Yao family had some history, but the two of them, being younger generations, had never met.

"Alright, I believe you." Yao Tang nodded, blew her whistle, and a white horse galloped over.

"Don't you want to ride with us?"

"I still prefer horseback riding."

Can I come along?

"It might hurt you."

"Let's sit for a while." Yan Shi was really itching to sit down.

After about ten minutes, Yan Shi felt a chafing sensation on the inside of his thighs and immediately dismounted and returned to his carriage.

"It's really fun to sway back and forth like that, but it must be tiring after a while. It would be better if there was a comfortable cushion, but the horse might not be comfortable then," Yan Shi shared with Zhuang Zhao excitedly.

The distance between Zone 2 and Zone 1 is over a thousand kilometers. It took two days to drive there, plus one day for bad road conditions and another day for getting lost. It wasn't until the fifth day that I finally managed to see the flag being raised in Zone 1.

Five days was enough for Yao Tang to get along well with everyone.

On the day they first met, Yao Tang rode his horse slowly behind them. It was getting late, so they found a suitable place to camp and set up camp, cooked, made soup, took a bath, and washed their clothes, since they were covered in dirt all day.

Yao Tang looked at everyone's things with curiosity, asking about everything she saw, chattering away. Yan Shi was initially enthusiastic about introducing things, but later he got tired of explaining. Then, a plan came to him.

"Are you aware of the taboos of the Word Spirit Clan?"

"I know that certain words have a magical effect; avoiding or omitting these words allows for normal communication."

“We don’t know the specifics, and he’s afraid of accidentally hurting us, so he hasn’t said a word the whole way. Why don’t you talk to him? It would be a good way to help him practice.”

Yao Tang thought for a moment.

"OK."

Yao Tang was not intimidated and went to find Yan Ye.

Yan Ye has a weak presence. He usually helps Si Yue with his work and lends a hand. Yan Shi has thought about talking to him. She feels guilty for isolating him, but she is not good at speaking and can't even find a chance to speak.

What is your birth order in the Yan family?

Yan Ye held up seven fingers.

"Can't you just say it? Don't rely too much on body language; you need to practice more to speak fluently."

Yan Ye shook his head.

"Your voice will get awful if you don't talk for a long time. What will you do if you meet a girl you like like this?"

Yan Ye remained silent.

Yao Tang was inexplicably furious. A long whistle sounded, and a flock of brightly colored birds flew in from afar, landing on the branches closest to Yao Tang.

Yao Tang reached out and left two birds, a parrot and a crow.

She taught the parrot to speak right next to Yan Ye, but the wild parrot hadn't been trained and couldn't learn at all.

"Take your time, don't rush. Once you've learned to speak properly, you'll also become a decent human being."

The crows stood by like comedians, mimicking Yao Tang's every word, with each crow cawing in response, creating a slightly comical scene.

Yan Ye knew this was done for his own benefit, but he couldn't figure out whether it was to anger him or to mock him, but it didn't matter.

Seeing that Yao Tang's mission had failed, Yan Shi felt guilty. He fed Yao Tang the snacks that he himself was reluctant to eat, and also managed to pet the bird.

Yao Tang is practically a walking zoo, she's an angel!

"It's not safe in the mountains at night; anything could happen. Those on night watch, don't fall asleep," Si Yue instructed as he started the fire.

"It's alright, I'm here. Even if a pack of wolves comes, I can make them turn back the way they came," Yao Tang said confidently.

Si Yue frowned. He didn't like children who talked big. Although Yao Tang's appearance had freed his hands before, he inexplicably disliked her.

Later, when he saw Bu Ke, who also disliked her, he realized that it was because she was always clinging to Yan Shi, and Yan Shi liked her very much.

Yan Ye and Zhuang Zhao took turns keeping watch at night; Yan Ye did the first half of the night, and Zhuang Zhao did the second half.

After dark, everyone gradually went to sleep, some in RVs, some in sleeping bags, and some in tents.

Yan Shi slept in the RV, and she let Yao Tang sleep with her.

"You go to sleep first, I'll sleep later." Yao Tang sat down next to Yan Ye, holding a cushion.

"There's no one else here, so please talk to me. You and I are the only people I know well among these people." The young girl pleaded, and even the most tactless person would feel embarrassed to refuse a request that wasn't entirely unreasonable.

Why are you alone?

Yao Tang looked up, not expecting him to have such a voice. He gave her a distant and aloof feeling, like a stranger should not approach him and an acquaintance should not disturb him. However, his facial features were soft and cute. She originally thought that his voice could be either soft or hard, but it turned out to be a husky low voice that was also very light. Listening to him speak was like a breeze, making it easy to immerse oneself in the voice itself, but difficult to focus on the content of what he was saying.

However, his speaking speed still needs practice; it's likely that he hasn't spoken as many words in a single day as she has since he was born.

"Because I ran away secretly, my dad was too careful. He was afraid I would be kidnapped by bad people, so he insisted on waiting until I was twenty before letting me go down the mountain. I didn't want to. I was tired of staying in the mountains. It's so much more fun outside."

"It's dangerous outside."

"I know, but don't underestimate me. I can still protect myself."

"There are no animals in the city, so you can't do anything about it."

"There are cats, dogs, and birds in the city too."

"They're all gone now."

"Is it because of a man-eating monster? Do monsters eat small animals too? They say that if you get bitten by that monster, you'll turn into a monster that eats people. What about if an animal gets bitten?"

"Animals will not be infected with the zombie virus, but they will become carriers of the virus. If they then harm people, the effect will be the same as that of zombies."

“This is indeed disadvantageous to me, and I don’t want them to get hurt because of me,” Yao Tang said, touching the parrot that had landed on her hand, her tone heavy.

"You'll be fine with us. Si Yue is very strong."

"You mean all of you?"

"I follow Si Yue," Yan Ye shook his head.

"Why aren't you with the Yan family? It sounds like none of your family members are around."

“They went back to the mountains. Words of power have no chance against alien species. Seclusion is more suitable than taking risks.”

Why didn't you come back with us?

"I got separated from the group, but Si Yue rescued me."

"So you want to repay the life-saving grace? Who is Si Yue? Haven't you heard of the Si clan of magicians?"

“He’s not a sorcerer, he’s an alien.” Yan Ye started talking non-stop about Si Yue to Yao Tang, until Yao Tang started yawning.

"Tired?" Yan Ye said, then made a sleeping gesture.

No matter how the word "sleep" is replaced, it has a magical effect. He can't say it out loud, otherwise Yao Tang will be forced to go back to sleep.

"Okay, I'm going to sleep. I'll call an owl to keep you company."

"By the way, you have a very nice voice. Even if you're doing good for humanity, you should talk more. As long as you don't have strong emotions, even if it comes with the power of words, it's not that scary. I think that older sister is quite concerned about your lack of sociability."

Yao Tang's words were broken into several parts by yawns, and on the way back, she felt like she could barely keep her eyes open.

Could it be that the words "I'm sleepy" have acquired a magical effect? That shouldn't be the case.
