Chapter Sixty: Mulberry Branch Affair

Zhuang Zhao ultimately failed because Yan Shi said she was going out in a while and she was too embarrassed to flaunt her sausage lips while walking around the market. Zhuang Zhao was persuaded.

"Let's continue tonight!"

"I think you should give me some time to process this," Yan Shi said, using a strategy of retreat as a pretext for advancement.

“I think you should understand the eagerness a boy feels after just getting to eat meat,” Zhuang Zhao argued.

"I understand, I understand you big dummy! Men need to learn to control their desires! Getting them easily will greatly reduce happiness."

"I think you're talking nonsense, but I still believed you," Zhuang Zhao sighed.

"Sweetie, change your clothes, make sure you look handsome."

"We have a matching outfit, shall we wear that one?"

"The blue and white outfit? It's a bit cold to wear it now."

"I'm not cold wearing a coat."

"But did you bring it?"

"Of course, I'll go find it."

Since that's been said, you have to endure the cold.

Yan Shi went back to her room and changed into a white sweatshirt with blue lettering and a light blue plaid skirt. Zhuang Zhao's outfit was a blue sweatshirt with white lettering and dark blue trousers.

Yan Shi's hoodie has "ZZ" embroidered on the hood and cuffs, while Zhuang Zhao's hoodie has "YS" embroidered on the hood and cuffs, and they also have matching couple brooches on their chests.

Zhuang Zhao had a very good grasp of the details.

“I think we’re still missing something.” Yan Shi waved his hand in front of Zhuang Zhao’s eyes.

"I'm missing a pair of rings. I've already designed them. I just need to find a craftsman to make them."

What kind?

"It's a secret, and it's definitely different from what others do."

"Don't wear anything too flashy, I feel embarrassed to wear anything too flashy." Yan Shi felt that her hands weren't pretty, and she hadn't seen anything that she thought would look good on her.

"No, I think you'll like it."

After getting dressed and going downstairs, the two realized at the intersection that they didn't have any money to take a taxi.

So how do we get there?

In the end, the two had to go upstairs and retrieve their valuables to pay the driver as fare.

Si Yue was quite surprised to see Yan Shi. When he learned that Yan Shi had come to collect the reward, his eyebrows twitched.

Aren't you leaving?

"Stay a few more days."

"Then come and stay with me."

"I'm not coming."

"I'm throwing a party in a couple of days, and I've invited all the elites. This person should come, right?"

"That has nothing to do with me."

"Aren't you looking for someone? It's better than searching for a needle in a haystack."

Yan Shi rolled his eyes. Indeed, that's good. But how did you know I was looking for someone?

"We'll see."

"Alright, I'll have someone pick you up then."

With a large sum of money in hand, the two of them first got a means of transportation—bicycles—and then began their happy time of eating, strolling, and looking for mulberry branches.

The people of District Nine are known for their ruggedness. While their food may not be as refined as that of District Seven, it is definitely more affordable. Large chunks of meat and dishes served in large bowls are quite to Yan Shi's liking, except for being a bit salty.

After finally finding the street where they had seen the mulberry tree yesterday, a torrential downpour began, and the two hurriedly sought shelter in a flower shop.

The flowers were blooming beautifully. Yan Shi took a fancy to a few branches and asked the shopkeeper to wrap them up. Just then, he saw a man in a wheelchair come out of the back room.

Yan Shi was taken aback and then elbowed Zhuang Zhao.

"Isn't this the one we saw with Sangzhi yesterday?" Yan Shi asked him in a low voice.

"Yes, if they weren't twins."

“I think so too. Do you think I should ask him directly about Sangzhi? But if I do, the fact that I spied on him yesterday will most likely be exposed.”

"Let's just wait and see; she'll definitely come back."

After wrapping the flowers, Zhuang Zhao held them in his arms and chatted with the shop owner.

Yan Shi stole a few glances at his boss. Even sitting in a wheelchair, he couldn't hide his gentle and refined temperament. If this were ancient times, he would be worthy of the title "a peerless gentleman".

The boss wasn't talkative, or perhaps he wasn't interested in small talk; he answered all of Zhuang Zhao's questions without showing the slightest impatience.

Zhuang Zhao mentioned mulberry branches, but the boss's expression did not change significantly.

The rain stopped outside, and Yan Shi felt embarrassed to stay any longer, so he went to the hamburger shop across the street.

She could sit there all day without feeling guilty, ordering two set meals and a few snacks.

"It's pretty good, otherwise I'd just stay here for the next few days."

"Are you tired of my cooking?"

"No, no, it was just a coincidence."

Never mess with the cook, or you won't get to eat.

On the first day of waiting patiently for the rabbit to run into the tree stump, all efforts were in vain.

The day after they waited patiently for the rabbit to run into their trap, the two of them got food poisoning.

On the third day of waiting patiently, Yan Shi finally remembered that she could subtly inform Sang Zhi of her arrival through the crystal core.

They left the crystal cores with the boss, and instead of spending all their time watching the flower shop, they started wandering around the trading market.

Yan Shi still misses Zhuang Zhao's dandelions. Dandelions grow everywhere in her hometown, each one the size of a palm with thick leaves. Her mother and grandmother loved to dig up the tender dandelions in spring and dip them in sauce to eat.

She assumed the dandelions were like that in the south, but she was surprised to find them nowhere to be seen in the city. She finally spotted a few with similar leaves, but they were tiny and sparse. She didn't dare dig them up, afraid of mistaking them for something else. In the end, she managed to buy some dried dandelions at a pharmacy to make tea for Zhuang Zhao.

On the fourth day, they went to the flower shop again and saw Sangzhi.

"It really is you! Long time no see. You seem to be doing well. What brings you to District Nine? This is no pleasant place."

"I came here with my colleague on business. I saw you a couple of days ago and thought I'd see you before I left."

"That's good, that's good. Come in and have a seat."

"My boyfriend, Zhuang Zhao."

“My husband is from Zheng Guli,” Sangzhi introduced generously.

Yan Shi was surprised; she thought he was just her boyfriend, but it turned out they were already happily together.
