Chapter Thirteen: Malicious Intent

"Did it appear after swallowing the zombies, or was it spat out by the black hole?" Quan Hou picked it up and examined it. If Yan Shi hadn't mentioned it, he really wouldn't have noticed. It was all because those zombies were so useless; he had hardly ever seen Yan Shi swallow zombies.

"I don't know, but every time I swallow a zombie, one of them falls to the ground."

"I haven't heard of that before. I'll see if I can figure out anything. I'll also ask around for other Xenomorphs for you, but so far, the only Xenomorph information we've collected is that you're a Devourer. Other Xenomorphs aren't very relevant to you."

"Then you can start researching it, and let me know when you have the results."

After leaving the research institute, the two went to the exchange to exchange for some common currencies. Non-renewable energy sources like gasoline, which cannot be produced by themselves and can only be transported, and fresh fruits, which are not readily available from farms and are difficult to preserve, could all be sold for good prices on the exchange.

On the way there, the two of them were thinking about what would sell well and be valuable. After thinking it over, they decided that it had to be gasoline. Seeing a gas station on the road, they made room to fill several cans with gasoline.

After receiving the money, Yan Shi immediately asked around for the location of nearby snacks and hurriedly took Zhuang Zhao to eat something delicious. Looking at the row of stalls and the hawking sounds on the street, Yan Shi was so moved that she almost cried. After three months, she finally saw the snack street.

Yan Shi intended to split the gasoline payment in half, but Zhuang Zhao refused to accept it, saying that Yan Shi had saved him and that Yan Shi's truck had delivered the gasoline. He felt it was unreasonable for him to accept the money after he had been freeloading. Yan Shi had no choice but to give him the change and tell him to keep it for transportation and grocery shopping.

If he doesn't want to answer, he doesn't have to. She'll just buy him whatever he needs.

Yan Shi wanted to try everything he saw, but he knew that his cat-like stomach wouldn't be able to finish it all, so he agreed with Zhuang Zhao to split it in half and not waste anything.

While eating, Yan Shi looked around for the next restaurant and saw a familiar pair of twin tails around the corner.

"Zhuang Zhao, I think I saw Bu Ke. Let's go take a look." Yan Shi finished the fried shrimp cake in his hand in a few bites and pulled Zhuang Zhao over.

With so many people around, we mustn't get separated from Zhuang Zhao again.

After turning the corner, there was a deep alley with high walls on both sides. There was no one in sight. Just as Yan Shi was wondering if he was seeing things, he heard voices coming from inside the alley.

"What are you trying to do?" At first glance, Yan Shi didn't recognize Bu Ke's voice. Bu Ke always spoke to Yan Shi in a sweet voice, but she never sounded so cold and wary.

"Little sister, are you alone? Look, your clothes are dirty. My house is nearby. Come with me to change into some clean clothes."

Even though the voice sounded like a girl's, the content of her words suggested that the person was not a good person. Yan Shi followed the sound and saw three or four girls surrounding Bu Ke, who was standing against the wall, looking like hooligans harassing girls.

"Bu Ke, come here."

"Sister, what brings you here? What day did you arrive?" Bu Ke emerged from the encirclement, automatically switching to a sweet voice.

"You just arrived yesterday, what's going on?" Yan Shi raised his chin slightly, as if to say, "I'll back you up."

"I just bumped into the stinky tofu in the hand of the girl in the blue dress, and got my clothes dirty. They are going to take me back to change my clothes."

"Are you human traffickers?"

"Of course not, what nonsense are you talking about?"

"Then why did you insist on taking that little girl to your house?" Yan Shi pressed.

"Change her clothes. Her clothes are dirty, and we got them dirty. Shouldn't we take her to change?"

"I think you may have misunderstood. We really just wanted to change her into some clean clothes. We didn't mean to scare you. We're sorry." The woman in the camel-colored dress stepped forward and bowed to Bu Ke in apology.

"Tong Ying, we don't need your apology. We did nothing wrong. Now that the dog is biting Lü Dongbin, does Lü Dongbin have to apologize to it?" The girl in the orange hoodie stood next to the girl in the camel-colored clothes and helped her up.

"Chang Ge, you shouldn't cause any more trouble."

"Whether we have bad intentions or not, we'll find out by going there. Speculating here won't get us anywhere. You're so arrogant, you're not afraid to go, are you?" The girl in the long black dress stood against the wall, arms crossed, and if she hadn't spoken, no one would have noticed her.

"Alright, sister, let's go. My brother will get worried if we stay any longer."

"Fine, I'll go. Who's afraid of who?" Yan Shi retorted, knowing that Quan Hou had implanted a GPS in her scalp. If anything really happened, Quan Hou would go berserk.

It's funny to think about.

"Excuse me, we really meant no harm. I'm Tong Ying, the captain of Team 404. Young lady, please wear my coat to cover yourself." Tong Ying took off her coat and handed it to her.

Tong Ying's attitude made Yan Shi waver a little. It seemed that she didn't mean any harm, but someone had said something too rude, putting her in a difficult position.

"Thank you, but no need. One of my clothes is already dirty. Don't get it dirty again, it's so hard to find clothes these days."

Since that's what they said, Tong Ying put her clothes back on.

It wasn't far at all, only about five minutes away. I opened the door and went inside. The room wasn't big, but it had quite a few beds, so it looked like several people were staying there.

"This dress probably isn't big enough for you. The bathroom is over there, go change there."

"Tea or water? You seem to be new to District Seven. We've been here since the beginning. Whether you're looking for a job or forming a team to accept assigned tasks, you can contact us. Here, this is our phone number."

"Thank you, I'm sorry, I misunderstood you." Yan Shi took the note with the phone number written on it with both hands, looking embarrassed.

"It's alright, being a little more cautious will prevent you from being fooled."

Bu Ke came out after changing her clothes, looking incredibly cute in a light yellow sweater.

"Hey, I have two little dresses here. I'm too old to wear them out anymore, but you're the perfect age. Why don't you try them on? They're nice clothes that I haven't worn many times but really love and can't bear to throw away." The girl with pigtails wearing a blue plaid skirt circled around Bu Ke twice, praising her repeatedly before asking her.

"Hurrah."

"Wait for me, I'm going to find it."

"Me too! Me too!"

“I have a lot of pretty hair ties.”

"I have little leather boots!"

The girls started rummaging through drawers and closets, leaving only one girl in a black dress who remained seated in a corner chair, drinking tea and looking out the window, seemingly happy just watching everyone else having fun.

Was she the one who provoked me just now? There are all kinds of girls here, the atmosphere is so nice, completely different from the team she was in in Huaicheng.

Bu Ke went back and forth to the bathroom more than ten times, and for the first time, she was so tired of changing clothes that she didn't want to move.

“They all fit well, take them all back with you. Clothes should be worn on the right person; they’re just going to be wasted sitting in our trunks.”

"Did you only bring clothes with you when the apocalypse came out?" Yan Shi was shocked. Back then, she only brought three sets of clothes. There was no place to put her thick coat, let alone her bulky shoes.

"Pretty much, and we were originally from this city. We went back to get our things, unlike you who traveled a long distance and couldn't easily carry your stuff."

"When I saw you, I knew you could definitely pull off these clothes. If it weren't for the apocalypse, I would have dressed you up like a delicate doll."
