Chapter 72 Medical Dispute

But just when Xu Zhiyi was about to get up to eat, he was stopped by Dr. Zhang.

Xu Zhiyi looked at Dr. Zhang's hesitation and said, "Doctor Zhang, do you have anything else to say? If you don't, I'll leave."

Doctor Zhang quickly stopped Xu Zhiyi and said, "Director, I have something to tell you."

"Then tell me quickly." Don't delay my meal.

"Director, you just got here, and you may not know what has happened between Lao Qian and me over the years. We were both good candidates to be doctors, but ever since that incident in the emergency department, we both started to give up on ourselves." As he spoke, Dr. Zhang told him about what had happened in previous years and the grievances he had suffered over the years.

Xu Zhiyi listened and realized that this was the case.

Dr. Qian and Dr. Zhang graduated from the same medical school and both gave up their positions at the provincial hospital to join the military hospital. Coincidentally, they were both assigned to the emergency department.

In those years, when people mentioned the Half Moon Island Military Region Hospital, they would mention the two doctors in the emergency department, Dr. Qian and Dr. Zhang.

Back then, when the two had just arrived at the military hospital, they were literally put on the operating table, spending days and nights in the operating room, performing every possible surgery. However, after witnessing that medical incident, both of them had changed physically and mentally.

That year, an emergency surgery was performed at the military hospital, with Dr. Zhang and Dr. Qian, both of whom were teaching the surgery, in charge. Dr. Qian wasn't originally needed, but the second assistant was drunk during the surgery.

With no other choice, they had to ask Dr. Qian, who was working the night shift, to be their second assistant.

Dr. Zhang lived in the hospital dormitory, which was very close to the hospital. After hearing about the incident, he went to the hospital from the dormitory. However, when he arrived, the operation had already begun.

The operation went very smoothly. When it was about to end, the patient suddenly had an accident and died.

The family members outside the operating room went crazy. They took out a knife from somewhere and stabbed the surgeon three or four times. Every knife hit the vital parts and the surgeon eventually died from excessive blood loss.

After this incident, a meeting was held within the hospital that night.

The final result was that there was nothing wrong with what the military hospital did that night. The original second assistant was fired for drinking on the job, the family members killed the surgeon, and the family members of the stabber were dealt with by the police station.

But the family members refused to give in, and the police intervened repeatedly to no avail. Eventually, the hospital's leadership had to spend 10,000 yuan to drive away the family members who gathered outside the hospital daily to cause trouble.

Dr. Qian and Dr. Zhang can be said to have experienced this medical dispute, and they were deeply guilty. They felt that if they had tried harder to stop it, perhaps their teacher would not have died.

After their instructor's death, both of their personalities underwent a dramatic change, leading them to switch from the emergency department to cardiothoracic surgery. One stopped performing surgeries, feeling lost in his pursuit of medical studies. The other, feeling inadequate, spent his days poring over textbooks. Now, even though he wanted to practice surgery, it was too late.

Doctor Zhang said with tears in his eyes, "Director, I really regret it. If I had been braver, I might not be so mediocre now. I might have become a chief surgeon a long time ago.

Director, when I was in medical school, I dreamed every night that I became the chief surgeon and was a big shot in the surgical department.

But then reality hit me hard.”

After hearing this, Xu Zhiyi looked at Dr. Zhang in front of her, not knowing how to comfort him, so she just let him cry in front of her.

After Dr. Zhang had cried enough, he raised his head and continued, "Director, I know you are different from our previous director."

Xu Zhiyi smiled and said, "We've only been together for less than two days, and you already think I'm different from your previous director. Isn't that a hasty conclusion?"

Doctor Zhang shook his head, "No, Director, you are different from our previous director.

Our previous director only cared about himself. As long as he was well, he didn't care about anyone else in the department. And when he found out about that incident, he didn't try to comfort or enlighten us. He just kept suppressing us and never let us learn from him.

In his eyes, as long as we all stayed in the department honestly and didn't hinder his promotion, that was all that mattered. So, over the years, we were almost abandoned."

Xu Zhiyi frowned. She really wanted to meet their previous director.

"Director, since you assigned us the task this morning, the department has been full of vitality, but only Old Qian is still standing still.

Director, to be honest, my relationship with Lao Qian is closer than that of my own brothers. Director, can you also help Lao Qian?"

"How can I help him? Even if I offered to help him, would he be willing? He still has to overcome the hurdle in his heart by himself.

So, it all depends on him; we are just a contributing factor.”

Doctor Zhang nodded and replied to Xu Zhiyi, "The director is right, but without the director, Old Qian can't change anything." As he spoke, Doctor Zhang told Xu Zhiyi about the bet he made with Doctor Qian this morning.

Xu Zhiyi raised an eyebrow, "Do you want me to take you to the surgery?

This is easy, as long as you have enough knowledge, you can go anytime you want."

Doctor Zhang didn't expect things to go so smoothly. "Really, Director? Are you serious? You really didn't lie to us this morning?"

Now Xu Zhiyi is somewhat suspicious of the purpose of Dr. Zhang's words. Is this for Lao Qian or do they not believe what she said this morning?

Xu Zhiyi repeated what he had just said. "Whether you can have the surgery or not doesn't depend on me, but on you. As long as you have a solid grasp of the knowledge and have the courage, you can go."

Doctor Zhang nodded and promised, "Okay, Director, we will definitely make up for it."

Xu Zhiyi smiled and said, "Is there anything else? If not, I'm going to eat."

Doctor Zhang stood up and made way for Xu Zhiyi. "No more, Director. Director, take care."

After Xu Zhiyi left, Dr. Zhang was the only one left in the office.

Doctor Zhang was so happy in the office, dancing and singing. Doctor Zhang looked at Xu Zhiyi's back as she left, muttering: Director, I am doing this for myself, but also for them!

I'm almost 30, so it doesn't matter if I delay any longer. But young people like Dr. Li and Xiao Zhao can't continue to be so decadent!

In the afternoon, there was still no one in the emergency room, and Xu Zhiyi once again sat there from get off work until the end of the day.

After all, Xu Zhiyi had experienced this for the whole morning and was no longer surprised.

All day today, except for three or four patients in the emergency room and general surgery room, there was no one in the other outpatient clinics.
