"Come on, come on, I haven't eaten yet, I'm starving, I'll treat you to KFC Fatty."
The two went to the KFC closest to the school, ordered their food, and then carried their trays to find a seat.
"Lin Chen!"
Lin Chen suddenly heard someone calling him. He turned around and saw that it was Shen Yue and Su Xiaowan.
What are you doing here?
“We came back to the school for a visit. Unlike you, who are always so busy, you don’t even reply to my messages. Humph.”
"Ahem... I did have something to do the other day. I just ordered some food, let's eat together."
"OK."
After the four sat down, the fat man started showing off his phone again, and then the four of them exchanged contact information.
After eating a French fry, Shen Yue asked, "Have you all decided on your college applications?"
“I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to apply to Shanghai University,” the fat guy said first.
"Great job, Fatty, your score isn't low. I'm planning to apply to Fudan University."
"Wow, you're a top student from Fudan University! Chen-ge, where are you and Su Xiaowan?"
"Shanghai Jiao Tong University," they both answered in unison.
Upon hearing their answers, Shen Yue dropped the fries she was holding.
"You two actually applied to the same university?"
Su Xiaowan blushed and didn't know what to say. Lin Chen picked up the conversation and said, "Then we're the Shanghai quartet. Keep in touch when you're in Shanghai. Let's create a small group chat."
As he spoke, he opened his phone and created a group chat called "Shanghai Four".
When the day came to fill out college applications, Lin Chen sent Su Xiaowan a private QQ message: "Shanghai Jiao Tong University, see you there."
After receiving Lin Chen's message, Su Xiaowan replied with: "Mm".
On July 10th, the demolition notice was officially released, and Lin Chen's family was very happy. As one of the first pilot communities for government demolition, not only were there many resettlement communities to choose from, but the demolition compensation was also paid very quickly.
That evening, while his parents were still debating whether to choose the Zijin Garden in the west of the city or the Riverside Mansion in the east, Lin Chen said directly, "Choose the Riverside Mansion."
Having been reborn, Lin Chen naturally knew that the western part of the city would focus on attracting investment, with many large enterprises moving in and industrial parks springing up everywhere, which kept residential property prices low. The eastern part of the city, however, was different. Various shopping malls were being established there, and new residential buildings were being constructed around them, driving up property prices.
Mom slammed her hand on the table: "I told you it was Riverside Mansion! Now my son and I have two votes, so we win 2 to 1."
Old Lin thought to himself: If my son had chosen Zijin Garden, you would definitely say that children shouldn't interrupt adults.
Lin Chen also sent a text message to Fatty, asking him to encourage his family to choose Riverside Mansion so that it would be convenient for them to go home together during the holidays.
For the next month, Lin Chen's mother enrolled him in a driving school so he could get his driver's license during the summer vacation. Lin Chen was bored by himself, so he dragged Fatty along too.
Despite the scorching 40-degree heat, the training vehicle picked up Lin Chen and Fatty, then went to pick up the next student.
"Hey, Fatty, where did you end up choosing?"
"The Riverside Mansion, just like your house, didn't require any encouragement from me; my mother made the decision herself."
Okay, Mom and the others must have already discussed it at the hospital.
The training car stopped, and as the next student got in, Lin Chen exclaimed in surprise, "Chen Yue?"
Then he looked at the fat man and realized that it was the fat man who had given Shen Yue the information. Could it be that this girl had fallen for him?
"Lin Chen, you didn't expect this, did you? Surprised?"
"What a surprise! What a surprise! Hehe."
"Lin Chen, I heard that the area around your house is going to be demolished?"
"Okay, please be more respectful when you see me in the future, and call me Boss Chen."
"To be honest, we also have an apartment in your neighborhood, but it's been unoccupied. So the three of us might become neighbors in the same neighborhood in the future."
"So it's Mr. Shen. My apologies for not recognizing you."
"Hehehe..."
After arriving at the driving school training ground, the instructor first demonstrated the maneuver, and then let Lin Chen and the others practice. The experienced driver Lin Chen passed the test on his first try and could even reverse into a parking space with one hand.
"Oh, you've driven before?"
"I've been driving to deliver tofu to my family every day for five years."
"You're a good young man. You can teach them both. I'm going to rest over there."
Lin Chen really wanted to ask, "Can I have half of the coaching fee?"
However, the coach didn't realize this and couldn't wait to go play cards with other coaches.
Over the next few days, Lin Chen personally taught both Shen Yue and Fatty their driving skills, and they successfully obtained their driver's licenses.
Two days later, the admission notices arrived, and the four from Shanghai posted pictures of their notices in the group chat and made plans to go to Shanghai together.
Lin Chen turned on his computer and registered on Renren.com. This website was very popular in 2009, but it later failed and became just a memory for one generation.
After being verified as a student at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the website started recommending alumni from the same university to Lin Chen, and Lin Chen followed them all without thinking twice.
After following the post, Lin Chen posted his first status update: "Hiring a game artist. Salary negotiable. Seniors who want to earn some extra money during the summer vacation, please contact me."
After waiting for half an hour without a reply, Lin Chen thought about it carefully and realized that his newly registered and verified account, even if it were real, would a soon-to-be college student be hiring a game artist? Could he afford to pay him?
"Fine, let's start coding first." Lin Chen installed a virtual machine on his computer, installed the Mac system, opened Xcode, and began typing out the code in his mind line by line.
