Early Monday morning, Ms. Liu from the school's entrepreneurship center took Lin Chen and An Rou to Shanghai University to participate in the 2009 Shanghai College Student Entrepreneurship Competition.
"Lin Chen, have you prepared all the materials? Let's head to the subway station."
"Um, Ms. Liu, how about I drive?"
Upon hearing this, Teacher Liu felt a pang of sadness. She had been a university teacher for so many years but had never bought a car in Shanghai, while this young man had bought one in his first year of university. She said awkwardly, "Well, not bad, not bad. You've already bought a car. Well then, I'll just hitch a ride with your car."
When he saw that Lin Chen was driving a Cayenne, he broke down again. Teacher Liu silently took out his phone, opened QQ, and changed his personal signature: "The air conditioning of the Cayenne can't blow away my sorrow."
He then looked out the window with a melancholy gaze and didn't utter another word the rest of the way.
The competition wasn't just for universities in Shanghai; it was hosted by Shanghai and invited universities from all over the country to participate.
Upon arriving at the entrance of the Shanghai University Conference Center, Professor Liu repeatedly instructed Lin Chen to mention, after introducing "Fruit Ninja," that "Fruit Ninja" had been sold to Tencent for 500 million.
Lin Chen took a picture of the Shanghai University Conference Center and sent it to the Shanghai Four's group chat: "Fatty, I'm at Shanghai University. Let's have dinner together tonight."
"Hey Chen, are you here to participate in that entrepreneurship competition?"
"Yes, it'll probably be afternoon before it's my turn to go on stage. Right now, I'm sitting in the audience watching other schools' presentations."
"Fatty, I want to come too," the young lady said.
"Come on, Miss Shen, it's my treat today. Is Su Xiaowan coming?"
"I'll come too, but I'll be a little later; I have class this afternoon."
"Okay, we'll wait for you."
After agreeing to have dinner, Lin Chen began to listen attentively to the entrepreneurial case studies being shared on stage.
2009 was indeed the dark night before the group-buying war. Eight out of the ten entrepreneurial projects shared on stage were about group buying. Some were still operating within their own schools, while others had already expanded beyond their schools to explore the university student market.
Lin Chen couldn't help but shake his head after hearing this. Seeing this, An Rou asked, "Boss, you don't think group buying is a good idea?"
"To put it simply, group buying is like a freshly baked cake, but this cake has been eyed by countless investors. In the end, there can only be one winner. The bigwigs in the capital circle outside the arena are like a group of adults who want to eat the cake, while the college student entrepreneurs on stage are like children who want to eat the cake. If a group of adults and a group of children fight, who will win in the end?"
"So, none of these group-buying projects are profitable?"
"You can't say that. In this booming group-buying market, if you can resist the temptation to cash out and make a quick profit, you can still make a little money."
Just as Lin Chen and An Rou were chatting, Teacher Liu patted Lin Chen on the shoulder and said, "It's almost your turn. Go backstage and get ready."
Lin Chen nodded and got up to walk backstage.
"Next up is Xingchen Technology, a representative company from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Please welcome Mr. Lin Chen from Xingchen Technology to the stage for his presentation."
Lin Chen walked up from backstage. On the big screen, Lin Chen's young and handsome face looked a little immature, but his eyes were incredibly firm.
"Hello everyone, I am Lin Chen from Xingchen Technology. You may not have heard of Xingchen Technology, but I believe you have heard of Fruit Ninja. That's right, I am the developer of Fruit Ninja. As a phenomenal mobile game, Fruit Ninja certainly had an element of luck, but it also reflected the infinite possibilities of the smartphone game market to a certain extent."
I boldly predict that with the widespread adoption of smartphones, the smartphone game market will develop at an incredibly rapid pace. The era of PC online games is over, and mobile online games are just around the corner.
Finally, my mentor at the entrepreneurship center told me to be sure to tell everyone that my "Fruit Ninja" game sold 500 million yuan. Okay, that concludes my presentation. Thank you everyone.
The brief speech ended with the words "five hundred million" resounding in everyone's ears, followed by enthusiastic applause. It is no exaggeration to say that the combined assets of all the startups from the universities present probably don't even amount to two hundred million.
As a result, when the entrepreneurs who came on stage later shared their stories, they didn't have the same arrogant attitude as the previous speakers. Instead, they were much more pleasing to the judges.
"The winner of the first place in the 2009 Shanghai College Student Entrepreneurship Competition is Xingchen Technology from Shanghai Jiaotong University. Please welcome Mr. Lin, General Manager of Xingchen Technology, to the stage to accept the award."
Amid applause, Lin Chen walked back onto the stage and accepted the trophy from the beautiful host. The host asked, "Mr. Lin, after selling 'Fruit Ninja,' does Starry Sky Technology have any follow-up entrepreneurial projects?"
"Yes, it's already underway. The specific details of the project will remain confidential for now."
"Okay, then I wish Xingchen Technology continued success and even greater achievements."
"Thanks."
After the entrepreneurship competition ended, Lin Chen handed the trophy to Teacher Liu, told Teacher Liu that he was going to have dinner with friends, and then left with An Rou.
In the end, Ms. Liu took the subway home alone.
"Come on, senior, I'll treat you to a free meal today too."
"Hehehe, even though I've gained weight recently, I'll still gladly take any free meal I can get."
Arriving at the gate of Shanghai University, I was surprised to find that Shen Yue was already there.
"Fatty, Miss."
"Lin Chen!"
"Let me introduce you. This is my colleague from the company, Senior An Rou. These two are my best friends from high school, Wang Kaixuan and Shen Yue, nicknamed Fatty and Miss."
