Yixing's parents are both soldiers stationed on the border, and because the border situation is dangerous, they rarely come home.
Yixing lives with his grandparents and sister.
Yixing had always known that his sister had a good friend, and he had heard that his sister's friend's parents were also border soldiers.
Their parents had known each other for a long time and were as close as brothers.
His father had told him that they had jokingly said that if a boy and a girl were to be betrothed as children, they would be betrothed.
But since both parties were girls, they gave up on the idea.
Five-year-old Yixing tugged at her older sister's pants, "Why can't I go see the other sister?"
Jiang Li laughed and joked, "She's too crazy, I'm afraid she'll corrupt you."
Jiang Li was just talking badly about someone behind their back when Ye Xinchu caught her red-handed.
Ye Xinchu made a shooting gesture with her fingers and pressed them against the back of Jiang Li's head:
"You bastard, you actually talked bad about me!"
Jiang Li looked embarrassed: "Why did you suddenly come here?"
"Hmph, it's all because of Grandma and Grandma-in-law. They insist that Ningning can't stay at home all the time, it's not good for the child, so they told me to bring Ningning out to see the world."
Twelve-year-old Ye Xinchu stood with her hands on her hips, her face full of arrogance: "What's fun outside? It's better to play games at home."
"Your mind is completely consumed by games; I think you're game-crazed."
"What's wrong with games? I love playing games, so what? Look how obedient my sister is, she plays games with me. I'll bring my new kids along to play games too!"
Aren't you afraid your sister will become a homebody?
"Isn't your brother the same? He's always cooped up at home. You should worry about your brother first!"
The two of them would bicker as soon as they met.
They kept arguing.
Yixing stood beside Jiang Li, feeling lost and unsure of what to do.
He didn't understand why his sister would argue with her friends.
Suddenly, he saw a small, fair hand reach out from behind Ye Xinchu, grab the hem of her pants, and cautiously peek out.
The little girl stood delicately next to her older sister, her long white hair flowing smoothly, making her face appear pale and frail.
Her eyes were beautiful, but they were empty, as if devoid of emotion, and numb.
The girl was as beautiful as a delicate doll in a shop window, lifeless, yet possessing exquisite beauty.
Yixing tugged at her sister's skirt. "Sister, who's that?"
Jiang Li punched Yixing squarely on the head, "You idiot brother, you can't say who this is, it's very rude to a guest!"
Yixing scratched his head, looking aggrieved. "Okay."
He then asked, "Sister, who is the girl next to Sister Xinchu?"
Jiang Li then answered him, "Her name is Ye Youning, and she is Xin Chu's younger sister."
"Go and greet You Ning gently and politely. Don't be too clumsy and scare the young girl."
"Oh... okay."
Yixing awkwardly walked over and extended his hand to Youning: "Hello... My name is Jiang Yixing, I am your sister's younger brother, it's nice to meet you."
Yixing spoke haltingly.
You Ning shrank back nervously, not daring to look directly at the other person.
Ye Xinchu squatted down and coaxed You Ning to bravely step forward.
You Ning cautiously walked over and extended her hand to him: "Hello... I'm You Ning."
Yixing held Youning's small hand; it was soft and cool, and he couldn't help but hold it for a while longer.
Jiang Li slapped him again: "Are you done yet!"
Yixing reluctantly let go.
He really liked this little girl; she was so soft and cute.
But the other person doesn't seem to like him very much.
It doesn't matter.
Dad said—
If you treat others sincerely, they will accept you.
since then.
Yixing would go to see Youning every day.
He followed You Ning and read a book while she was reading.
You Ning likes to read complex historical literature, and Yi Xing will accompany her while she reads.
You Ning likes to jump rope, but she coughs after only a few jumps each time.
Yixing would jump rope in front of her to make her happy.
Their relationship quickly blossomed.
But usually it's Yixing who keeps chattering away.
You Ning listened calmly to his rambling.
When Yixing was twelve years old, he began learning magic. He asked Youning, "Do you want to learn magic with me?"
You Ning thought about it and didn't refuse.
They went to take the test.
Yixing is skilled in wind.
Young Ning has no particular strengths.
Young Ning has no magical talent.
When Yixing learned that Youning had no talent, he grabbed the tester's clothes in frustration, exclaiming, "Impossible!"
"How could someone as talented and intelligent as You Ning not have magical talent?"
The tester looked at him with a troubled expression: "Well... I can't help it."
"These are the results from the testing equipment; there's nothing we can do to help."
Yixing wanted to ask more, but Youning grabbed her hand and said, "Forget it, if you don't have it, you don't have it. There's no need to force anyone. Let's go, Xiaoxing."
Yixing turned back unwillingly: "But Ningning, you're so smart, you can't possibly be without talent!"
Yixing muttered, "Let's test it again..."
"Can we still test it? Let's test it one more time!"
The tester looked away awkwardly; this was the third test already, and there was no point in testing again.
But considering that the parents of these two children were of high status and could not be offended, he could only sigh and compromise: "Okay, let's do it again."
You Ning grabbed Yi Xing's wrist, her eyes lowered, and her voice was very soft: "I'm hungry, I want to go eat."
Upon hearing this, Yixing sighed helplessly, "Fine, I'll take you to eat."
Yixing finally compromised and did not require Youning to undergo another test.
