Even including those few times, Ye Xinchu has seen her father only a handful of times in the past ten years.
In her heart, her father was a towering and solemn hero, a sacred soldier who guarded the border.
She had been unsure how to bring up the question that had been buried in her heart for so long.
Even though she knew her father loved her.
But she still didn't know how to say it.
After Jiang Li learned that she was being shy and hesitant because of this, she always said that she was acting strangely and asked her why.
Afraid of his father?
Yes.
Ye Xinchu was afraid of her father.
She was afraid of bringing shame to her father.
She was afraid that her father would hate her.
She didn't understand the reason for this emotion.
All she remembers is that every day she would take her younger sister and wait at the door of their house, in this small little world, for her parents to come home.
I heard my teacher praise my parents as good soldiers.
My classmates say my parents are very capable.
I heard from relatives that my parents have worked hard.
Grandpa and Grandma said that Mom and Dad miss them a lot.
All words were transformed into invisible messages, weaving her father and mother into people who were both strange and familiar to her.
So—
She didn't want to be the child her parents disliked.
She was the most obedient older sister, praised by her grandparents.
She is the older sister that You Ning needs most.
She thought she had to be a child her parents could be proud of.
So, when she heard her father praising Mi Ai for fighting on her own, she was overjoyed.
She secretly wondered if she would be praised for standing up for her sister against bad guys.
But when others say, "Dark magic is rare, but it can easily harm people. It's not very useful except on the battlefield, is it?"
She shrank back again.
Is her talent too brutal?
She was conflicted, confused, and bewildered.
In the end, she retreated back to the dark corner she had created for herself, helping her sister and teaching a lesson to the bad guys who bullied her, within the limits of what she could manage.
Is that enough?
Now, her beloved younger sister is telling her to boldly move forward and unravel the confusion in her heart.
She wanted to back out, but when she thought of her sister wanting to dye her hair, she secretly mustered up her courage.
As the older sister, I can't fall behind my younger sister, right?
tomorrow.
Father will return to the front lines.
She wanted to try and find out her father's answer.
She stood guard outside her father's room until dawn.
When Mr. Ye came out, he saw his eldest daughter squatting at the door of his room, sleeping. He didn't wake her up, but picked her up and prepared to take her back to her room.
As soon as Ye's father touched Ye Xinchu, Ye Xinchu immediately woke up.
She immediately stood up, not a trace of sleepiness in her eyes, her expression solemn: "Dad!"
Mr. Ye smiled and said, "Go back to sleep first."
"No." Ye Xinchu shook her head. "May I ask you a question?"
Is it important?
"Yes, it's very important!"
After listening, Mr. Ye lowered his voice and said, "Come to the study with me."
The last time Ye Xinchu came to her father's study was when You Ning asked her about her talent.
This time, Ye Xinchu's heart was pounding nonstop.
Will she get the answer she wants?
We arrived at the study.
Mr. Ye asked her to sit down before asking, "What's wrong?"
Ye Xinchu took several deep breaths, her heart pounding faster and faster, her mind pounding so hard that it took her a long, long time to finally speak:
"Dad, I really want to know if you'll hate my talent for dark magic!"
Upon hearing this, Mr. Ye was shocked: "Why do you think that?"
Ye Xinchu nervously fidgeted with her fingers and said:
"Everyone says that dark magic can easily go berserk and hurt others. I'm afraid that one day I won't be able to control myself and will hurt others, and then you will hate me."
Mr. Ye never expected that his eldest daughter, who had grown up, would be so troubled by this matter.
Thinking of this, Ye's father felt ashamed and remorseful.
I never realized my eldest daughter's inner conflict, which caused her to be constantly afraid that I disliked her.
He's such a terrible father!
He sighed, "I'm sorry, Xin Xin, I didn't know you were always afraid that Dad would hate you."
He walked up to Ye Xinchu, took her hand, and gently patted it.
"Dad will never hate you. You and Ningning are both Dad and Mom's most beloved children."
"Your parents love you so much, how could they possibly dislike you?"
"Don't worry, no matter what you've done, Dad believes in you, because you are Dad's important daughter!"
Upon hearing this, tears welled up in Ye Xinchu's eyes. She hugged her father tightly, her voice trembling as she sobbed:
"Dad! I love you very much too!"
Hearing his daughter say she loved him, Mr. Ye's eyes welled up with tears, and he gently patted her back.
"Yes, Dad knows! Dad is very happy!"
After taking a tissue and handing it to his daughter to wipe away her tears, Mr. Ye continued the conversation.
Every time he returned home, he would see Ye Xinchu playing around with Jiang Li without a care in the world, never imagining that Ye Xinchu would be afraid of his talent.
He sat opposite Ye Xinchu and said earnestly:
“Xin Xin, don’t be afraid of your talent. In the beginning, dark magic was indeed only used for combat and self-protection.”
"The times are relatively peaceful now. The city has a protective shield and a professional guard team. All kinds of magic have evolved, and it is no longer just a single type of attack magic."
"Therefore, many people believe that dark magic is brutal, too destructive, and prone to getting out of control, but—"
"In the past, when there was strife and strange beasts were rampant, the first Dark Goddess, as the progenitor of battle, was a well-deserved goddess of war. She used her tough methods and absolute strength to sweep away the enemies who tried to plunder our homeland."
