Side Story 4: Shen Lanque

A gentle breeze blew in, causing his thin white shirt to billow with large bulges.

Behind them, the sounds of boys scrambling for the food could be heard.

There are no dazzling aurora borealis at night, no bustling neon lights, no magnificent snow-covered landscapes, and no breathtaking panoramic views of towering mountains.

Only sparse and ordinary natural scenery.

But unfortunately—

now.

He is now free.

He couldn't help but shed tears of emotion.

The next second he hurriedly wiped away his tears.

Ye Qi keenly sensed that something was wrong with him. "Are you unhappy?"

Shen Lan opened his mouth, but the sound of the wind around him seemed to bewitch him, urging him to speak.

Perhaps the atmosphere was too relaxed and comfortable, causing him to lower his guard.

Or perhaps it was the internal strife and pent-up emotions that had brought him to the brink of a mental breakdown, and he seemed to see this chance encounter as a lifeline.

And it seems that it was used as a starting point in the comic.

He doesn't care whether he's the protagonist saving others or the supporting character being saved.

He longed to be saved.

The twelve-year-old boy, whose heart had not yet matured and become completely withdrawn, couldn't help but let out a weak cry for help.

"I'm a crybaby, I can't help but cry, and I feel ashamed of myself for it..."

"If only I could be as brave as the protagonist in a comic book, I wouldn't cry when I encounter setbacks."

He regretted it as soon as he said it.

How could he so casually tell others about his affairs?!

He began to regret it.

But he only regretted it for a second.

Then they heard the girl's calm voice: "Is crying so bad?"

Do you really think it's bad to cry?

"So what if you cry? Does the main character in a comic book have to be brave? Can't he/she cry?"

"Crying is a right that we humans are born with."

"This power is labeled with negative energy, making people afraid to cry freely in public. But isn't crying precisely because you're unhappy and want to relieve your emotions?"

"You can laugh in public, so why can't you cry in public? Both are precious human emotional rights. If you can overcome difficulties with a smile, why can't you overcome them with tears?"

"Whether you cry or laugh, overcoming difficulties is commendable courage."

"If you can't change your tendency to cry, then overcome difficulties while still crying."

"The protagonists you're talking about, whether they're ordinary people or heroes, are impressive primarily because they're not afraid of setbacks and overcome them, not because they smile every day."

"In the one and only life you have to live, there's nothing wrong with being a brave person who cries easily."

"Courage is never made inaccessible by a smile."

Ye Qi suddenly pedaled the bicycle even faster, letting her smile freely and unrestrainedly.

"I also love reading comics."

"I've also read about protagonists who broke down and cried because of despair, but in the end, carrying a lot of negative energy, they forcibly suppressed their despair in order to protect their hometown, bravely stepped forward, and died standing up."

"Do you think she wasn't afraid? She was afraid, but in that world full of knives, the girls chosen as heroes could only cry as they fought against monsters much larger than themselves."

So—

"Courage is never overcome by weakness."

"Even if you just stand up and speak out about it, that takes a lot of courage. You bravely spoke out about your difficulties, so how can that not be brave?"

"Even a little courage is still courage. Stop focusing only on the courage to save the world."

Upon hearing this, tears suddenly welled up in Shen Lanque's eyes, and he couldn't help but shed tears, but Ye Qi's words were still on his mind.

Even a little courage is still courage.

Was it brave of him to speak out about this?

He pursed his lips, then looked up at the sky.

This was the first time he had spoken about it.

Has he suddenly gained a courage he never imagined?

The gentle breeze caressed my ears.

The sky gently enveloped everything.

The ground, crushed by tires, was truly scorching hot.

Behind them, the sounds of teenagers chasing each other could be heard.

Everything felt so real.

His courage.

It's that simple.

But it's not simple either.

today--

He possessed his own courage.

It may seem small to others.

But for him, it was grand enough.

In this sweltering summer.

He still cries easily.

But he learned to stand up while crying.

There's nothing shameful about crying.

Just like a smile, they are emotions, emotions that the body instinctively needs.

It's just that it's been given a negative label, leading some people to believe that crying is a sign of weakness.

So, his bold crying was another way for him to overcome what they called "cowardice".

He cried bravely.

How can it not be considered courage?

Courage is never defined.
