Nangong Qi took out a seven-stringed zither from his storage bag, sat under the cherry blossom tree, placed the zither on the table, and began to play.
His slender fingers plucked the strings, producing a clear and elegant melody like flowing water. The music drifted on the wind, making even the wind seem gentler. Cherry blossoms fell one by one. Beneath the tree, a stunningly handsome man in white robes and black hair played his instrument while gazing at a girl in purple, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Ayao listened intently, and as she looked at Nangong Qi, she thought of Luo Bai.
Nangong Qi's figure slowly merged with Luo Bai's figure.
Ayao remembered her past life, how her master stole Luo Bai's Myriad Things Cauldron, and how Luo Bai captured and imprisoned her, forcing her master to come and ransom her.
She recalled the days when he held her captive, when he always liked to play the zither in front of her. He would sit under a tall flowering tree, playing the seven-stringed zither, his long silver hair dancing in the wind, and the music he played seemed to cleanse the hearts of all living beings.
Although she was very angry at the time, she would always become engrossed in listening to it.
She remembered the day he finished playing a piece, and she said to him, "Are you planning to keep me imprisoned like this forever?"
Luo Bai said, "I'll give your master three more days. If she doesn't come to redeem you after three days, I'll cut off one of your hands and give it to her. What do you say?"
He looked at her and smiled gently, a very beautiful smile.
She glared at him angrily, and he asked her:
"When the time comes, would you rather I cut off your left hand or your right hand?"
She said coldly, "Cut off your own hand."
After she finished speaking, he burst into laughter.
Three days later, her master didn't come, and that guy really was going to cut off her hand. She was far too weak against him and couldn't resist at all; she could only accept her fate. It was just a hand, after all, it would grow back quickly. Just as he pinned her to the table and was about to chop with his knife, her master arrived.
Actually, he already knew her master was coming; he was just trying to scare her.
What a nasty old man!
After Nangong Qi finished playing a piece, A Yao was still immersed in her memories until Nangong Qi cleared his throat and brought her back to her senses.
Coming to her senses, Ayao smiled and said, "Third Young Master, your zither playing is excellent."
He even clapped a few times as he spoke.
Nangong Qi looked at her and asked with a smile, "What was Miss Seven thinking about just now?"
Ayao said, "An old friend."
"Does that old friend look a lot like me?" Nangong Qi asked. From the beginning, he had this feeling that the girl in front of him was looking at someone through him.
Ayao looked at his face, which was almost identical to Luo Bai's, and nodded. She said, "You look alike, but your personality is much better than his. That guy is really awful."
"Are the Seventh Miss and him very close?" Nangong Qi asked, though he himself didn't know why he asked that.
"Intimate? How could that be? We're more like mortal enemies," Ayao said.
Nangong Qi chuckled: "But the way Seventh Miss mentioned that old friend doesn't sound like a mortal enemy; she clearly thinks of him as someone very important."
Ayao immediately denied it: "You're overthinking it. He and I are just enemies."
She and Luo Bai could only ever be enemies. Even if they were on the same side during the war to destroy the world, they would only be allies in a helpless and temporary way. The Dragon Clan and the Phoenix Clan could never be friends, let alone have any other relationship.
Nangong Qi gazed at A Yao with a gentle yet sharp look that A Yao found indescribable. He chuckled and asked, "Then, why does seeing me remind you of him, A Yao?"
He suddenly changed how he addressed her, but Ayao didn't pay attention. She slightly opened her eyes and said after a while, "Because you look alike."
"Is that the only reason?" Nangong Qi asked.
Ayao lowered her head, thought for a moment, and said, "I made a promise with him to fight, but unfortunately it didn't work out. I don't care about him, I just feel regret."
Nangong Qi chuckled and said, "I see."
But he didn't believe Ayao's explanation at all.
Nangong Qi stood up, looked at the beautiful mountains and rivers in the distance, and said to Ayao, "The weather is nice today, Ayao, would you like to go out and see the sights?"
Ayao thought for a moment and then nodded.
————
Misty clouds and misty peaks, vast and boundless.
The peaks of the Youyun Mountains are filled with countless streams and cliffs vying for beauty.
On a cliff stood an elegant pavilion, with all the long windows open. Two men were playing chess. One was dressed in white, with a refined and handsome appearance, while the other was dressed in black. Although not as handsome as the man in white, the man in black was still elegant and dignified.
The man in white was Lu Xiuwen, A Yao's father, and the man in black was the head of the Nangong family, Nangong Qi's father.
The two were playing chess when they suddenly looked up simultaneously, their gazes fixed on a certain spot. Their divine senses traversed countless mountains, revealing a girl in purple and a young man in white amidst the sea of clouds.
The girl in purple and the young man in white flew through the sea of clouds, laughing, and landed in front of a waterfall. They said something to each other, and then flew to a hillside covered with wildflowers.
The wind blew, and petals danced in the air. One petal landed on the purple-clad girl's hair. The young man in white stepped forward and reached out to remove the petal from her hair.
The girl in purple gazed at his exquisite face, her expression momentarily dazed. It took her a while to regain her senses.
Seeing this, the head of the Nangong family smiled and said to Lu Xiuwen, "Brother Lu, these two children seem to get along very well!"
The smile on Lu Xiuwen's face had vanished. He knew what the Nangong family was up to—they wanted to abduct his precious daughter.
