The bells on Qing'er's body jingled as she smiled and walked towards Xie Chen.
Xie Chen saw her and sighed.
I finally got a moment of peace and quiet, but now I can't find peace and quiet anymore.
Qing'er smiled and walked over to Xie Chen's side, sweetly calling out, "Old man!"
Xie Chen: "..."
Everyone: "..."
Everyone stared at Xie Chen's young and handsome face. So young, yet calling someone an "old man"—what was this girl thinking? These two clearly had a very close relationship. Father and daughter? Didn't seem like it. Brother and sister? Not quite either. Master and disciple? Even less likely. What disciple calls their master that?
Ignoring the reactions of others, Qing'er walked to the chair opposite Xie Chen and sat down. She placed one hand on the table, propped her chin on her palm, and looked at Xie Chen with a smile. Xie Chen glanced at her; he hadn't seen her for a while, and she had grown taller. Although still a little girl, she already possessed the beauty of a woman. Her presence in the restaurant drew countless eyes, and many men's eyes held not only admiration but also other thoughts.
Xie Chen coldly glanced at the people around him. As soon as his gaze swept over them, they all lowered their heads, instinctively feeling fear. Although they didn't know what had happened, none of them dared to look in his direction again.
Qing'er was completely unaware of what was happening around her, or rather, she didn't care. She looked at the actors performing on the stage; it was her first time seeing opera, and all she heard was their incoherent singing, which she couldn't find interesting. So, she looked puzzled.
"Old man, what are you doing here?" Qing'er asked Xie Chen with a smile.
"Listen to the opera."
"Listen to opera? What's so great about that? I sing much better than them," Qing'er said with a smile.
Xie Chen glanced at her a few times, then stood up and walked towards the stairs.
"Hey, old man, where are you going?" Qing'er immediately stood up and chased after Xie Chen.
Qing'er followed Xie Chen to the main street. The main street was crowded with people, and the bustling crowd automatically made way for Xie Chen and Qing'er. Their appearance and temperament were so outstanding that everyone's eyes involuntarily followed Xie Chen and Qing'er until Xie Chen used his illusion magic, at which point the people around him stopped paying attention to him and Qing'er.
When Qing'er first came to the place where mortals lived, she seemed very curious about everything.
"Old man, what's that?" Qing'er asked, pointing to a steamed bun shop.
"steamed stuffed bun."
"Steamed buns? What are those?" Qing'er watched as someone paid for and ate steamed buns. She excitedly tugged at Xie Chen's sleeve and said, "These are food! I want some too! Go buy me some quickly!"
Xie Chen glanced at her. Qing'er put her hands on her hips, looking like she was ready to throw a tantrum if she didn't listen to him.
Xie Chen had no choice but to walk over and buy some steamed buns for Qing'er with a few copper coins. Qing'er watched him pay, looking curious about the copper coins of this mortal world. She was born a Celestial Emperor; she had never even seen spirit stones, let alone copper coins, because she had absolutely no use for them.
Xie Chen handed the steamed buns wrapped in oil paper to Qing'er. After taking them, Qing'er glanced at the others eating buns nearby. She picked up a plump, white bun, opened her little mouth, and took a small bite. Xie Chen watched the little girl in front of him; she was quite cute eating, but unfortunately, this little girl was a big problem.
Qing'er took a bite. The taste wasn't as good as the delicacies she had tasted in the Sword God Palace and Phoenix Palace, but since she had never eaten them before, she still found them quite novel and took another bite.
So she ate her steamed buns while following Xie Chen.
"These steamed buns aren't very tasty," Qing'er said.
Xie Chen did not respond.
Qing'er saw someone buying candied hawthorns, and she was very curious about the strings of candied hawthorns.
"What are those things? They're all in bunches, bright red," Qing'er asked Xie Chen.
Candied hawthorn berries.
"It sounds delicious," Qing'er said.
"You haven't finished your steamed bun yet," Xie Chen said.
Qing'er threw the buns into her storage space and then tugged at Xie Chen's sleeve with a smile, saying, "Now that you've finished eating, go buy me some candied hawthorns. I want to eat candied hawthorns."
Xie Chen had no choice but to go and buy candied hawthorns for Qing'er.
Qing'er held two bright red candied hawthorn skewers in her hands. The little girl was very happy, and she looked at Xie Chen with a bright smile. She even generously handed Xie Chen the candied hawthorn skewer in her left hand: "Here, have one."
Xie Chen didn't take it: "No."
Qing'er gave a soft hum and started eating.
She took a bite of a large candied hawthorn skewer; it was sweet and sour, and the taste...
It's not bad.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly delicious to her either.
Qing'er has eaten far too many delicious things.
So the little girl ate two, and then she didn't want any more. Then she set her sights on other things. She was very curious about things she had never seen before, and whenever she saw something she liked, she asked Xie Chen to buy it for her.
Xie Chen kept buying her things, but she got bored with them so quickly. She'd play with them for a bit, eat a few bites, and then throw them back into her storage space. Xie Chen thought to himself, at this rate, her storage space would definitely become a garbage dump.
Finally, they left the human town. Xie Chen plucked a leaf, which transformed into a small boat in the water. Xie Chen and Qing'er boarded the boat, and it floated downstream.
Qing'er sat at the bow of the boat, her fair feet kicking the clear river water as she laughed and sang. Her voice was very clear and melodious, drifting among the green hills and clear waters.
All the plants and trees around her seemed to share in her joy. The flowers became redder, whiter, and purpler, and the green leaves became greener. Everything was filled with a vibrant and thriving life. Even the dead wood that had fallen into the water sprouted emerald green leaves and blossomed with many flowers.
Xie Chen stood to the side, listening to Qing'er's singing, and unconsciously felt his mood calm down, as if he were recalling distant memories. Qing'er turned to look at Xie Chen and saw his white robes fluttering in the wind. His tall figure was like a straight jade pine tree growing between heaven and earth. Looking at his handsome face, she seemed to see the sunlight shining on the snow-capped mountains, making them sparkle.
As she looked at him, Qing'er couldn't help but say, "Old man, you're actually quite good-looking!"
After saying that, Qing'er giggled.
Xie Chen looked at Qing'er with a cold face, and Qing'er pouted again: "You're just too fierce. You always have a stern face, as if everyone owes you a debt from several lifetimes ago. No wonder no one wants you."
Xie Chen: "..."
He's single and happy, so who's bothered?
